  1. Pharaoh's Workshop is finishing their Endless Dark and Brilliant Highlights terrain series with their new project "Skyfire" - 3d printable lighthouse. A perfect fit for DnD, Mordheim, Frostgrave or simply any Zombie Apocalypse game. Do you dare to explore the old desolated lighthouse and find out what has happened over there? The project launches on October 3rd and you can subscibe to be notified on launch now! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pharaohsworkshop/skyfire-stl-files-to-3d-print-a-lighthouse-for-tabletops?ref=ahl3om
  2. CMON has launched a new KS campaign for another iteration in the Zombicide franchise. This one, like Zombicide: Black Plague, is set in a medieval fantasy setting, so it'll go well with D&D. Unlike Black Plage, it's winter themed, and also based on more eastern mythology and history. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cmon/zombicide-white-death/description I think perhaps the most interesting thing about this set is that you get a good set of city guards, and then a horde of zombies in the same city guard armor! :D There are of course several other monsters and heroes that are very interesting, including minis for several different types of beastfolk that'll work well for tabaxi, werebear, etc. I'm in for $1 so I get access to the pledge manager later. Oh yeah, and there's a set of extra heroes with designs based on the members of the metal band Lacuna Coil. I like some of their songs, but I don't really care about that specifically. They look like they might be some nice minis to have, though. :P
  3. A new warband for A Song of Blades and Heroes games! The wizard is Morgan from Zombicide Black Plague, and the soldiers are Tehnolog Romans. Thanks for looking! 🙂
  4. I would be very thankful if someone would tell me the name of this mini! I got it in a trade and can't seem to find it online!
  5. Worked this one for a good, long while. I am really happy with the cape and takign the time to layer it carefully. I tried to use the method of using dark colors on the exterior areas and use brighter colors where to draw the eye. I also am super happy with the edge highlighting and small details in this one. It took me a while to do the layers, but the outcome was well worth it. I'm leaving the process below in photos on progress. Let me know if you have any feedback or areas I could improve.
  6. It's the weekend, so you know what time it is... BATTLE REPORT! Along with all the Bones 5 I bought, there was a special on some Zombicide minis that were just too good to not buy. This is one of the many that are in there, and I'm stoked to get this one done. Wins: * Continuing my use of drybrushing and being very successful. Did an overbrush this time to start with a dark brown. Then drybrushed to orange brown. Then lightened up to buff. Worked great! * Saving the last color for last - flat flesh. I mixed this with matte medium and watered it down to kind of filter it and just use it to highlight the base colors. Big win! * Went back around with some nuln oil to darken down just the deep recesses and area between the muscles. Starting to use the washes sparingly and only in very specific areas. Also getting a better grasp on using which wash for what job. * Used Agrax Earthshade to create a transition between the fur and the body. Win! * The fur was the same 2 base colors as the skin, but then lightened up with gray. Then taking the gray up another notch with white very lightly. Then EVEN LIGHTER adding white in peaks and areas near the face. * The mouth is a combination of brown, then a purple ink, then breast cancer awareness pink mixed with a little of that purple to get the tongue. Looks nice and dangerous! Misses: * I had another hard time with the nails on this guy. I didn't want them dark, nor did I want them too dirty looking, so I had to use something lighter. I feel like the grey is a fail, but it blends in. * Eyes were a mix of bone white, gray, and black dot. Not impressed with it. Something ominous and glowing would be better. * Got a little carried away on the werewolf's left ribcage. I was using the drybrush to find the volumes, but thought, hey that needs some highlighting. Wrong. Right above the ribs there's a bit too much buff color. Wah wah. This guy came out great. Even with a few errors in there, I'm super happy with the results and love using the matte/paint mix to blend in. As always - I love and grow from any feedback. Send it my way - I gain a lot from it.

  8. Fun fact! Like most zombicide minis, this sculpt was inspired by a fantasy character. In this case it is Isabeau from the movie Ladyhawke played by Michelle Pfeiffer. I've painted this mini to be my new ranger named Michelle in my Rangers of Shadowdeep campaign. I had a lot of fun highlighting her dress. Hope you like her! (click on the image for better quality)
  9. After a long wait, my Kickstarter pledge finally made it to my doorsteps. I know what you are thinking: "Didn't you just move?" Yes, yes I did. "You haven't finished Black Plague yet!" Also 100% correct - and at some point I will certainly finish it up, but the cult of the new calls! Now on one hand, this project will be a little easier as the aliens will predominately be toned with a single color with the attention being paid to the little details on them. It won't be as intensive of a slog compared to painting individual outfits of clothing. On the other, we have a bunch more specialty aliens and a slew more heroes to go through. Who knows if I will get around to painting them all! So this weekend's plan will be doing some prep work, priming and whatnot on a few of these. As always, comments and critiques are welcome - I am here to learn. My goal for larger projects such as these is Tabletop "Plus" (not quite display, but a little above a standard base/wash/highlight) for the hero and big units, and tabletop standard for the rank-and-file units (totally fine with base coats + washes + a few details here and there). Ultimately these are game pieces that will be played, so I don't want to agonize over anything getting messed up too badly.
  10. These teeny tiny butterflies from Wicked Elf are awesome! They are super easy to use since they are vellum and not paper. Nice and durable, easy to paint. I was really pleased with how they came out for this project.
  11. "Well, that's no ordinary rabbit! That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!"
  12. Stole my brother's mini from out of his house the last time I was there and painted it for him. Built a much more deserving base for this fierce Zombicide boss with a vicious streak a mile wide.
  13. I don't play the game but some of the special guest minis are really cool looking. A friend bought the set to get another character and was just going to toss this one, no interest in it. I thought it looked neat and may fit right into another friends Asian campaign. Saved a mini from taking up space in the local landfill and have a nice gift being sent off to a buddy of mine soon.
  14. Howdy y'all! I know I am rather new to the forums but I thought I would introduce a bit of what I have been working on pre and post ReaperCon 2018. No doubt I have met with some of the forum denizens here, most notably @Green Eyed Monster for sure. Hopefully my presence here will be a welcome and fruitful one, and I look forward to talking and learning from all of you! A few months back I decided to pick up Zombicide: Black Plague, and before I knew it I was neck-deep in medieval zombies. I told myself I would save the heroes for after ReaperCon to employ some of the techniques and improvements I would have learned. I... uhh... sorta did that. Let's just say I quickly became tired of the derth of zombies and wanted to focus on more...noble...aspirations. The Goal: Get 'er done. Preferably by the end of October. Because what better way to say 'Thriller' like a box o'zombies. I am shooting for tabletop standard for the standard fodder zombies, with tabletop+ for the heroes. Not quite display level, but certainly a cut-above your bog 40k Guardsman (ifyaknowwhatimean hashtag don't_tell_the_commissar). I am loosely following the box artwork along with Sorastro's YouTube series, but I certainly am not married to everything. I will try to make a note of any techniques I employ that I have learned either from class, trial and error, or from online tutorials. Since this is my first original content post here, please let me know if I am doing anything incorrectly or against forum etiquette, as this is not my normal venue for sharing! So grab a cup and buckle up, cuz we are fixin' to see a whole lot of pictures of the scenic countryside of Zombicide: Black Plague.
  15. I can't believe I haven't posted anything here since October. Well I managed to finishes some Zombicide mini's back in February. Camera went and broke on me so I've been procrastinating on taking show offs with my cellphone. But I decided I might as well. Here is my Grom from Zombicide. He's was a promotional figure with I got with the Kickstarter. He was painted up to be a gaming piece. I tried to keep to the art work somewhat. Thanks for any C&C you feel to give.
  16. Because I apparently suffer from extreme ADHD when it comes to miniature painting... squirrel!! Ahem, the following are in various stages of WIP. Everything on the blob and rat has been applied by airbrush and mostly inks and washes to this point. The Abominataur has had some brushwork done since and is nearing completion. Tried something I picked up from a French Youtuber Hutif who mixes some satin varnish in with her inks when she sprays them. Will be doing a comparison on some different models at some point to see if it's actually doing anything but it seems to be helping the ink settle into the recesses better. Applying inks/washes through the airbrush has also been neat as you spray at such a low pressure that you can get really precise. If nothing else, it was great practice. These are not meant to be works of art, just messing around and hoping to get them on the table with 3 or so hours of work each. So far, the minotaur is the farthest along has had about 2 hours total. Thanks for looking.
  17. I suck at photography. Took probably twenty pictures, trying to find an angle, distance, light combo that accurately reflected how good these look, but finally gave up. They're good enough for the Black Plague table-top anyway.
  18. Base colors done. Need to do the flagstone tiles on their bases and then apply quickshader. Very tired of being such a slow painter.
  19. Well I finished this guy over the weekend. He's been a long time in the works. Several short bursts with long breaks. I finally decided that I just wanted to get him done. So I told myself a lot while looking at it "good enough."
  20. Well I since I don't have enough WIP's going I thought I start one for my survivors. I noticed that I can manage to get through at least 4 a month. So in I plan to work on these guys when I need a break from the unDead. The first up is Josh the Thug: And the reaming 4 from the Season 1 box: And 4 more from 2 of the guest box set I picked up to round my survivors to 5/5 female/male.
  21. Well, I finally have gotten around to starting up the Necromancer's from Zombicide: Black Plague. I could have started with the core Necro, but I felt inspired to start with Grin. Now I as I painted him up I had to constantly tell myself he's only for gaming. But I think he has some character. The game fiction has him being a Necromancer that failed at an attempt to bring out the dead, from a pesky adventurer. So I decided to give him a similar complexion to my zombies. Then I decided to attempt to give him some red lips to enhance his grin. In the end for a table top mini I think he came out ok. Though After painting him up I noticed a few spots I'll touch up. Then I though that he would have look cool painted up as a not-joker. *Sigh* Maybe someday I'll look to see if I can acquire another copy. Thanks for any C&C you feel inspired to give.
  22. I have been busy but not posting threads recently. I have been using a range of models to play Lions Rampant and Dragon Rampant. For this I have used a combination of Bones and other figures. As I don’t have enough archers, I have opted to use some of the add on models from the Black Plague Kickstarter. First up is the paint scheme I opted to use. The idea is they are what remains of a lords retinue hence the uniform. at present I am painting up a batch of six models. The last phot shows base colours still being applied. Further highlighting takes places prior to a wash of Agrax Earthshade. As as always comments welcome.
  23. Painted alternate Zombicide: Black Plague heroes for my nephew and niece for Xmas this year. They had borrowed the heroes for several weeks to play with on my brother's board, but I asked for them back eventually. I decided to go ahead and paint them and give them as gifts today. Thanks to whoever the genius artist was whose color scheme I copied for Persephone. I suck at paint schemes, so I almost always have to copy. Black Currant was mainly mine as I largely chose a black scheme since the pic on his card didn't have much black in it. I wanted my Black Currant to actually BE black, so I chose almost all dark coloring. I'm still a journeyman painter, so I don't usually highlight, but I experimented with highlight streaks in Persephone's hair and I thought it came out pretty well, so I'm learning. I just wish I had more time to paint.
  24. Journeyman painter here still struggling to paint when I don't have someone choose the colors for me. I'm trying to paint a Zombicide: Black Plague add-on hero named Black Currant, but I don't like his color choices. I want to make him mainly black so he's more worthy of his name. I want to nail the fur part of his cloak, though. I see some guy painted it with Skavenblight Dinge, but that looks to be some form of grey, to me. I'd rather it look more like fur, so I thought I'd paint it something dark and then dry brush it with something else. Anybody have suggestions or know of a good guide? Also, I'd welcome suggestions for the cloak color to go with dark black plate mail. Not really feeling the purple.
  25. Well over Minivember I had high hopes of great accomplishments. For me that entailed finishing more than one mini, 30 hopefully. Well, I failed to achieve that. I did however manage to start and finish another Zombicide mini (more actually, but they will be in another post). He was a relatively quick paint for me, and with the idea of table top. I gave the Tamiya Clear Red a try for the blood effects. I like the effect just not execution. Well with out furthur fanfare or words and such, is my Zombicide Abomination. Thanks for any C&C you feel inspired to give.
