  1. So while I've been painting some figures, my delightfully talented wife has been indulging her artistic streak. Basically she saw my feeble attempts, said "hold my tea!" and proceeded to give me a much needed humility lesson : ) While I've taught her everything I know, I in no way have taught her everything she knows... and it shows a bit, especially with her freehand : ) 77501: Minotaur He's big, he's blue, and he's coming to a labyrinth near you! 77022: Michelle, Female Human Ranger I just adore the shading & freehand on her cloak.
  2. Hey all! I've been away from the forums for a while, but I've been able to get some hobby time back into my schedule and I'm happy to be back! I'm starting out by clearing up my Shelf of Shame (as much as I can anyway), starting with Michelle here! Edit to add: I had a pretty handy little photo setup at my old house, but haven't been able to set anything up since moving last summer... I'll see what I can do about that so you don't all have to look at my grungy thumbnail in every photo.)
  3. I'll take a page out of hammer570's book and post a little introduction thread here and show off a few of my preliminary efforts. The very first mini I ever painted was about a year ago, at the very first PAX South. Reaper was there, and I had so much fun I kept going back. I had been wanting to paint a mini ever since Reaper started going to the various PAX shows and had some friends who did it, but it never really seemed to work out with so much else to see and do at PAX. On the last two days of PAX South 2015, I felt like I finally had some time to try it out and pretty much got hooked righ
  4. One Michelle done here! Based on the feedback I got on my last mini (Flit the Dragon), I tried to go for some sharper contrasts on this one, and I also messed around with a little lining. Not super happy with the cloak, but I was fiddling with it and eventually just told myself to move on in the spirit of keeping things fun. The eye patch isn't really an original idea, I think I've seen more than one Michelle 'patched up' like this, but her right eye was just so messed up I think this was the best way to handle it. C&C is always welcome! Also, here's a group shot of the eight Bones I h
  5. I've got some scenic bases in the mail so I wanted to experiment with them before I use them on my winter exchange. I chopped off Michelle's broccoli base with a hobby knife then decided to replace her wobbly weapons with metal ones. I didn't have two matching swords so she gets sword and dagger instead. The sword was SOOO easy to mod. I just chopped off the old one, drilled straight through her hand with a drillbit about 1 size too small. I then used the bendy nature of Bones to my benefit and just wiggled it in there and through. The sword is held entirely by her rubber-band hands - th
  6. Here's my next pair of completed Bones. I think in general these are a step back from my first two. 77009 - Werewolf Went with a pretty basic color scheme here, so there wasn't really that much to it. The eyes are supposed to be green, but I think it's a bit too subtle, and I should have picked a more vibrant green. 77007 - Ghost This was my first attempt at base modification. It was largely a trial by error, and the end results show it. I don't think i did a sufficient job in disguising the original base. As far as the ghost himself, I was trying for a decaying look o
