    77057 Juliette The Jade Sorceress

    Finished up #77057 Juliette, female Sorceress. Very happy with the end results. Only problem I had with the sculpt is the right boot which was really lumpy and not well defined but that's only a minor complaint as i really love the overall sculpt. Had a bit of a panic when i was working on the face when some paint got in the right eye so i had to redo it but think i salvaged it though the outline is a bit less now. Oh and on the face and small details 18/0 brush is your friend. Main colors: Spruce Green Phantom Glow Heartwood Brown Scholar flesh
  2. I'm a bit delayed on these photos, as I got distracted by various things but pictures are finally taken, even if there's apparently some dust on them now >.>;;;; Anyways! Back in February (Feb 18th to be precise, at least according to messages I'd posted on Discord) I decided I wanted to give speed painting a whirl, in order to try and develop a few techniques that I could then apply to my Skaven horde of doom. I also wanted to try out a few different mini holders (generic tylenol, as well as Motrin bottles) to see if I'd prefer something like the Mini Holder, or if I could just DIY something, as my current solutions tends to wind up causing my right paw to cramp up after a while, and maneuvering the miniature isn't always the easiest. Such was partially inspired by the awesome thread @ManvsMini did about custom holders and also a desire to see whether it would be worth splurging on a Hobby Holder with Handle Mod 1. Short version is that the Motrin bottles won out, although the generic tylenol bottle was handy because it has a lid that spins more easily... So technically the Hobby Holder would be able to do both, AND give me a brush rest. Anyways, I'm rambling in a show-off thread.... Originally I'd wanted to do just the one mini, but quickly wound up putting two up so I could directly compare the two bottle types I had on hand. I think I set my goal at "finish a single mini within two hours", and I'd say I pulled that off, since I managed to do two in 2h10min... So needless to say, rather happy about that! Oh, it also morphed into some sort of "less than twelve colours used" and "you can only use one 10-well palette, and once a colour is in one, it's committed" challenges too, both of which I was successful with (11 paints total used, including washes, and I sure wound up using all ten wells too). Not quite sure why I do such, but eh, it was for fun, and I had fun, which is the most important aspect of it all in my eyes! ^So first up, obvious is Sir Forscale, aka Garrick the Bold... In Bones. ^And then Juliette, Female Sorceress, also in Bones. And since I can't resist, yup, all done with size 0 brushes, because that's pretty much all I had on hand back then. So, I have to playfully ask myself, what did I learn, besides the obvious aspect of a fox loves orange and black? Uhm... Good question. I know I did a decent amount of drybrushing, but I also can't even remember if I used any metallic paints or not as it's been a while >.>;;;;
  3. The thread about the Drider and centaur I Frankensteined up from some Reaper and Citadel parts reminded me of this little gem I put together this summer as part of a coterie of Drow. I was originally inspired by the Reaper Bones Conversions thread Chaoswolf started, which had some cool examples of substituting Bones torsos on the Bones Dark Elf Arachnid Warriors. Since Bones are so easy to cut and carve up and glue together, I thought I'd give it a try. So this is the spider body from Reaper #77182, Arachnid Archer, and the upper half of #77057, Juliette, Female Sorceress. I carved her carefully to leave a peg for the spider body, and I've carved out little sockets on the spider body for the bags and flasks around her waist. This is a dry fitting, where you can see the way the two pieces more or less fit together under the waist: Here she is glued. I used epoxy (I know, I know, but I like its space-filling qualities). I left it thin on the back of her torso and added another layer once it had dried, let it get to the gloopy sticky phase, and carved some striations in it with a bamboo skewer to match the hairiness of the spider body. Here she is primed with Reaper Brown Liner, ready to paint:

    3 Player Character minis:

    I've decided it's time for a show off thread for these minis. WIP is at http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/73535-lexomatics-spring-2017-pcs/ I'll post pics in a bit after I've cropped them. Juliette first

    Lexomatic's spring 2017 PCs

    I decided to start painting up minis for my various PCs -An unidentified Grenadier Halfling fighter (chain & shield) as Lvl 7 Rogue, Magnus Perrywhimple (soon to be con only) -Mystic Theurge as Lvl 1 Monk/ Lvl 1 Rogue Stede Blackthumb (Acolyte of Candlekeep), on an acquisition mission to atone for learning and copying ritual magic without permission -Juliette, as Lvl 1 Half Drow Sorceress, Grz'zilda (the Ghastly Gourmet) who was rescued from Hillsfar and while hiding her heritage is now adventuring. I've done a few passes at a few things. But not full base coats yet. Photos later.

    77057: Yukata Sorceress

    So, I looked at this sculpt and thought to myself, "My, that's a lot of flat, undetailed space on this sculpt. I should do something fun with it." I need to get something better than my cell phone for these shots. There's metallic gold patterning as well, but it doesn't show up D: Now to work more on my patterned-fabric Yephima...

    77057: Juliette, Human Wizard

    Here is one of the first KS1 Bones character miniatures I completed. Given the discontinued (in Bones) status of this miniature, I took it upon myself to prove it can still turn out well. Her raised left hand is the primary reason for the discontinuation in Bones and I understand why (see the metal for comparison: http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/03547); but I believe I was able to make the most of it.
