    77090 Mason Thornwarden

Finished up #77090 Mason Thornwarden. Kind of have a love hate with this figure, I love the pose and design but the bones version just loses so much detail compared to #03500 which I also have The face was particularly troublesome. as he basically did not have a left eye. But as with everything its all about learning and I am mostly happy with how the cape turned out as well as the quiver.
  2. So I started painting this guy... I don't even remember how long ago. Pulled him out tonight and decided to wash him with a couple other bones I was prepping... He felt a little tacky... And now feels worse. And the tooth brush feels all gummy. He's from Bones 1, and probably painted with older GW paints, not not 100% sure. Fairly sure I'm just going to drop him in some simple green and start over... Though I'm wondering if there has been some weird chemical change and if I'd just be better off getting a new copy of him? Anyone else run into something like this? I know some paint dries tacky on bones, but can that be cleaned off and repainted?
  3. The last minis I painted last year. I think they turned out pretty well, though I should have sealed them. C&C welcome. Enjoy

    Last Batch of 2016

I put a spray varnish coat on the final batch of figures for 2016. This group includes three Bones for the club's ongoing Frostgrave project, two Eureka Dark Ages Archers (a Viking and a Norman) destined for Saga warbands, and a converted Bones Bathalian, who is headed for the stars. That is to say, he's going to be part of my Rogue Stars collection, for Osprey's new generic small group SF game, at least while we figure out if we'll be playing it. Here's to hoping for a better 2017!

    77090: Mason Thornwarden

This one took a little longer. As usual, I got a fair way into it and realised I'd messed stuff up and then had to go back and fix stuff. So, y'know, good times. Pretty typical for painting. A lot of it was done with the greyscale+glazing technique (that I'm pretty sure has a name that I've totally forgotten) but I keep forgetting to push the highlights really high and the shadows really deep, and this one was especially bad for that. Still came out half-way decently.

    Bones Heroes

So here are four Bones minis my D&D group picked out for PCs. I have to say I agree that the soft details make Bones less than ideal for PCs and important NPCs. Good for mooks and big monsters, though. Anyways, here they are. I need to get some Testors Dullcoat; my current matte spray is too shiney on Bones. Too bad this figure was discontinued; maybe we'll see it in metal. The details were quite soft on this figure, but it came out OK. I started out painting the cloth on this dwarf in blue, but then saw that was what every version in the gallery had. So purple. This one looks more indigo in person. I think my camera must have some setting to shift away from violet. Need to fix the staff, too.
