  1. Hi! I'm brand new to the hobby and stumbled across the forums, so I thought I'd share my first WIP photos. I started playing in my first DnD campaign in December and the other players painted their own player character minis, which made me want one of my own (and one for my husband, who also plays in the same campaign.) I snagged the two LTPKs then started watching all the videos I could find on mini painting. I have no background in art/painting so it has been refreshing to give it a shot! However I am also in the rabbit hole now of wanting all the colors, basing supplies, tools.... lol.
  2. Finished my version of Mangu Timur just now. The pictures may not be that great 'cause i'm a bad photographer. Would like you guys to say what you think of it.
  3. Couldn't resist the silly-ish title - it was originally going to be "Novice Painter, versus LTPK:Core!" but I changed it a touch at the end.. Bonus points if you read that as the Innkeeper from Hearthstone. :P While I have painted miniatures in the past, I've first and foremost never shown such results to anyone, and secondly went in blindly with those ones, and while I was happy with them at the time, I wanted to improve. Other things in life took over for a while, and then finally I said that's it, I'm either going to FINALLY paint my primered army of doom that was at Doom In
  4. Painted 2/17 with LTPK received at Xmas. Asked for it after tough experience painting minis with Folk Art craft paints. (See bugbear warrior post.) Soooo much easier! It was like a different art form altogether. I followed the directions verbatim with the skeleton. I like greyish orcs so changed the skin tone and some other colors. IIRC, Mangu is per the painting guide.
  5. Finished up the last mini from the Core Skills kit. I think he turned out ok but the shield and shield arm was probably the hardest part to paint. It was hard trying to get into all those tight corners with the brush and trying to keep the blue and metal separate from each other on the shield when dry brushing. And here are all three of the Mini's from the Core Skills kit. Looking at them compared to some of the older stuff i've done I think i've seen some improvement. The orc, I think is still the star of the kit followed by Timur and the the archer. Now its on to the layer
  6. Here is another Mangu Timur. This time I made it for one of my fellow players in our Sunday game. His character is a Purple Dragon Knight turned Paladin of Vengeance. I worked the purple in subtly, and went with a green motif as per his suggestion.
  7. spent this afternoon getting a good start on this guy. Would've liked to do more, but sadly was getting a little too tired to focus on it. So far the trickiest areas have been his left arm right behind the shield
  8. Hello everyone, So I have had reaper minis since the first bones kickstarter, but it wasn't until recently that I actually decided to start painting. I wanted to show off what I've done so far, and hopefully post other pictures as I make progress. I realize that these are rough, and I appreciate any advice on the matter. I posted these pretty well in the order that I painted them, and had anywhere from a few days to a few weeks between each mini. I think I am finally getting the hang of dry brushing, as seen with the golem, and the more I learn, the more I think I
  9. First up my first sculpt, a green slime I made out of excess green stuff. I added a skull I had laying around on the suggestion of my husband. I also recently finished the last Bones zombie (77054) I had not yet painted, plus one of the ghasts (77159) for gaming use. I had a paint disaster earlier in the year where I spilled a bunch of metallic paint, so Mangu Timur (77148) was the recipient of some of that excess: Happy New Year everyone! Edited to add Figure SKU in the tags
  10. In the exchange thread it kinda sounded like Siri was challenging me to take better pictures than her. I don't have an actual light box, but today at least I do have the sun (Hello sun, nice of you to finally show up this month), so I snapped a few pics this afternoon. I left them a little larger than I normally do, so I'm sure you'll want to click on the resized images and bring them up in full detail. Thanks Siri! Now I just need to finish up my own exchange mini...
  11. Mangu Timur feathered serpent & Faerie Dragon Tereziyna, bonepander wizard aka Ms Violet Damiel, Iconic Alchemit Mr. Bones Halbarand, cleric - generic sun god symbol (free handed) Seltyiel, iconic magus and that's everything that would fit in the case: Below is all that remains for me to paint in Bones 1: the rest were sold/traded away. Its not my goal to paint them all before Bones 2 comes in, but ..... Comments and criticisms welcome. I want to get better.
  12. So this is my latest figure, it is done as well as I can, but im looking for criticism and feedback on it. This is 4-5 days of work sessions. Blending, glazing and light patterns were the techniques I was focusing on. the thing I am least satisfied with are the light slashes on the sword, are they better removed, or tweaked? any other problems that catch your eye? I wanna get better!
  13. Been awhile since I posted, and this guy was partly to blame. I started him a couple of months ago, and was having trouble getting the armor to do what I wanted. I've had the painting bug again lately, so late last week (after finishing another mini, post after this one), I finally buckled down and forced myself to get through his armor. This is more NMM than I've ever done on a single model. After the armor was done, I flew through the rest. Back when I started this, I thought it would be neat to do something Final Fantasy inspired, and this is what I came up with. I thought this fig
