  1. Nolzur's do make a few great monster minis, even though most -if not all- of their humanoid minis are too small, weedy and have too shallow detailing for my liking. Here is one: Yep, a dead head. 50mm base. The main colour is Citadel Contrast Plaguebearer flesh, the rest is regular paint. This mini was finished September 12th 2020. Zombie Beholder Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures, Wave 11 2020 Wizkids I have no idea who sculpted this, as WizKids do not -as far as I know- publish this info. PVC, 50mm base
  2. Still messing about with contrast paints, we come to the Nolzur's Marvellous miniatures Spectator and Gazers. The Spectator and Gazer are obviously variants of the classic Beholder... More pics below the clicks
  3. For some reason this month i decided to concentrate on one eyed floating monsters. Next in line was the Wizkids beholder. Somewhat hard to find at one time. I got one and then lost the urge to paint it. Finally got around to it and discovered that mine apparently never got past mardi-gras and crowned himself in blues and yellows. fun paint job but it got a little weird having all those eyes staring at me while painting...
  4. First post here! I've been painting minis for about two years now, and after recently painting up a warband for Frostgrave, I've been trying to improve my techniques. Which leads me to the Dark Watcher! Loved this sculpt, and any beholder kin. I liked the stalagmite base, but I wanted this guy to be free range, so I made a floating base for him with a model sprue and an extra base. And now for my secret shame... Still using fifty cent craft paints! I've occasionally got to use "real" paints through friends, and maybe some magical day I'll acquire some, but in the meantime I've done what I can to try to make the models look good with what I have. I've seen a lot of great paintjobs here that were inspiring, so hopefully someone gets a kick out of my discount paintwork!
  5. It's been quite some time since I've done a show off but here goes. I painted this mini in about 6 hours. Still need to gloss and seal. C&C welcome.
  6. Finished my beholder. It's a little over exposed after stacking the photos. I'm too lazy to take new pictures. He was fun to paint! i'm happy with how he came out, Need to keep pushing myself though. MVI_0102.MOV
  7. Hello forum family, back to share the most recent of my paints. This was pretty fast (well for my standards). Ok: I'm starting to be addicted to purples... basically I'm painting everything in Purple/Violet/Magenta... Let's call it "Cicciopiu's purple period" Well... what can I say? Is the Beholder... is purple... yes, that's all ...Oh yes: no drooling, is a good guy that keeps his teeth clean! (ok I didn't want to mess with UHU). Hope you will like it. Hi-Res Picture As always every c&c is more than welcome. Thank you for watching :)
  8. My son's DM wanted a purple beholder with red eyes.
  9. I painted an eyebeast for the D&D Painting class I was teaching One of the techniques we were working on was blending so I wanted to make sure that I chose colors that the techniques would show well hence the bright green and pink. The class was fun and everyone's eyebeasts turned out great!
  10. My interpretation of the Xanathar using the WizKids beholder mini. I love the sculpt, but wasn't keen on the eye, so I filled it with green stuff and painted my own on. Now I need to find a scale fishbowl...
  11. Howdy, Painted for a friend... Kev!
  12. Since beholders destroy things that they look at ...it seemed fitting to adapt the title from Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley. I happened upon 2 beholders at my local game shop. The first was painted with a generic beholder color scheme and the second as Xanathar and Sylgar.
  13. I painted a beholder from D&D's collector series a while back and said I would never paint another. 10 eyestalks later I have another. I could resist this scuplt and it was very difficult to find. My local games stores that I am very friendly with were never able to procure one for me. BUT when it rains it pours, got one snagged by a buddy of mine and then found several more just stocked at a new store near me. Yay more eyestalks to paint...
  14. Recently finished up another jarred mini, this one a Beholder. Beholder mini - Built on the base with a coin pile and treasure chest (also from Nolzur's/WizKids) as well as some hand punched loose coins and lots of sculpted resin Close ups. In jar - Client wanted a nice, small, display piece for his desk that he doesnt have to worry about the piece getting dusty. Metal plate on bottom of beholder, and magnets inside bottom of jar, if he chooses to use it for tabletop. Also more handcut coins glued inside the jar. writing on top was a found fantasy script that he liked, I translated 'Imprisoned Nightmare' as the writing. Have to say that I had so much fun painting this mini that I ordered 2 more to play around with later this year. Think I want to zombify one, and the other will be similar to this but with more elaborate basing.
  15. I got a camera to take better pictures of some of the miniatures I've been painting. I hope my GM can use them!
  16. MKCS

    Xanathar

Here’s my take on this terrific model. Beholders have always been one of my favourite baddies to paint. As always C&C are welcome and appreciated!
  17. The elusive WizKids Beholder. Love this guy.

    BEHOLD!

This is the beholder from Wizkids. He is my first completed mini for Saturated Seotember where I am going to try and spend some time painting every day for the month of September. I have a WIP thread going if anyone wants to follow along or join in! He got a little more orange than I intended but I don't mind how he turned out. I want to get my hands on another one and greenstuff his eye to make a different (round) iris and pupil. Fun mini to paint. We'll have to see how my players like him!
  19. So, not a Reaper mini, but I got my hands on one of these. I wanted to try painting one up differently than I typically see, where they're largely blue, red, or brown, since the Monster Manual mentions no two beholders are alike. That said, sometime I'd like to get another one to paint up more "traditionally," despite likely never needing to have two beholders on the board at once.
  20. I generally dislike the WizKids stuff, but some of their larger minis are good. Had this guy awhile, but finally finished his base.
  21. This was my entry for the Quarterly Painting Contest on Facebook. I pictured him as some twisted villain's pet so he got a food dish and a toy! (Officially known as the Tennis Ball of Fetching!) I have a love of puns and F-eye-do cracked me up so I had to paint his name on his food dish. I made him removable from the funny base and also made the ball removable. This way he can still chomp adventurers! The contest was a blast and out of 70 entries, no two were painted alike. So many color schemes and different eyeballs! It makes me want to get a lot more eyebeasts and recreate some of the awesome paint jobs from the contest. (My players might cry! I fully expect one of their characters to purchase a ball and carry it around in their packs...just in case!) Thanks for looking and C&C welcome!
  22. Just finished my new Beholder. Hope this mini isn’t sold out trying to do a lot of them. Critique welcomed. I think I might brush the inside of the mouth with gloss, but other than that I think it is done.
  23. So things were a little rushed in getting this finished a week ago, and I never did have the time to do a proper show off... And as final assembly didn't happen until Thursday afternoon..... and the results.... Thanks for all the fun, comments and following along with this!!!!!! George Forgot to link the WiP.....
  24. http://makezine.com/2017/05/02/outfitting-a-dd-beholder-with-led-eyes/ I ran across this "Make:" article in which Bob Richens explains how to mount LEDs in Reaper's Bones Eye Beast, SKU 77043, including teeny-tiny ones in the ends of the tentacles. It looks pretty cool!
