  1. So finally got around to taking my pictures of my minis from Gencon. I took a bronze for Rumscratch. I was fairly happy with his little beach there, even if the water doesn't show well on camera. My elf sailor was also entered, but not judged, since they only judge one of your entries per catagory. He doesn't look very friendly. He was supposed to though. I did a Wyrd miniatures speed paint of the Immolated Rhino. I didn't know anything about this guy other than it was a rhino. Didn't even know the name until just now, so I made it pink. I made it very very pink. wish I could have come up with something to do with the cracks in his skin. I just kind of ignored them. this guy is a deep cuts guard. I did him up in a color theory class. I don't think he turned out too bad considering the size of the brush I used on him. I'll probably touch him up eventually. Questions, comments, concerns? I also took a miniature photography class and as side effect, learned what a few of the icons on my phones camera do.
  2. Malak breathed the cold air and smiled. This day had been long coming. The journey to the Frozen City had been difficult, wizards of his like had difficulty procuring supplies in the so called civilized lands, even in the rough towns near Felstad. Still, goblins could adapt to any situation and this one was no different. The eclectic band he had managed to scrape together stood with him now on the outskirts of the ancient ruin, ready to stake their claim at the riches that lie within. His first in command was his apprentice Grubb a Weiben goblin from the Reaping lands to the south. After him was Murdo an infantrygoblin of the Heartstabber tribe of Impact Crater in the Oldhammer Mountains, and a likely candidate for leadership over the rest should it be required. Polg and Mog were Manorheim goblins from just north of the Reaping lands and reasonably useful with a bow and axe, respectively. Gik and Moosh were from a nearby Bighead tribe. While both were foolish creatures, Gik was good with his bow and Moosh was quick with his feet and his dagger. They were also good with animals. Fearful and mistrusting of dogs they had brought with them giant rat creature they had tamed and named Squeaker. His final member was a brute of a goblin named Malg from the Thunderbolt Mountains. Louts and fool’s the lot of them, but competence cost gold, and that was coming soon. Besides if they die, at least he'll be able to buy better help on the next excursion. Unfortunately, Murdo had been less competent than hoped, dying shortly after impaling the "mouse wizard" on his spear. The Manorhiem goblins suggested calling in a trap expert from their village by the name of Grinner. Hopefully this one will prove more useful.
  3. Also did a quick speed paint of two statues. Not sure were the other column is at the moment, but this one was out while I was painting the angel of death so it got paint too. She fit very snuggly into that base. I'm debating whether or not she'll stay in it. The pair. Also the angel without the base.

    Bones 4 Barbarian

Finished up one of my first bones 4 minis. The unnamed big brother to the bones 3 barbarian. He's a simple table top job, though I probably could have shaded a few details more. Like his bracelet. I used an ink wash too shade the fur of his cloak and loin cloth. It worked great except they are now both very shiny. I could tone them down with some matte sealer, bit I think I'm just going to declare them magical. Someone's grumpy today. here he is with his unfinished little brother. Little brother's weapons ate a bit mor floppy unfortunately. They'll likely take a few hot water baths to fix.
  5. Jesse James and a Pinkerton agent with a shotgun from Knuckleduster miniatures. Still messing with my background. The Pinkerton's coat looks more orange in all the pictures when it's just a light tan in real life not sure what was up with that. I also attempted to give him eyes and wish I hadn't. Jesse had eyes but I kinda messed them up when I sealed him. It looks like the sealer messed up his beard and mustache a bit as well. I should really go back to spray sealer but there so few days when it's not too humid. I painted these up for Dracula's America, I was initially going to use Jesse James as a part of a Red Hand crew, but decided he fit better with my Dark Confederacy which I still need to get pictures of. The Pinkerton will definitely be a part of the Red Hand. Jesse's nose is a little dark, I might have to fix that later.

    Black warg

So this is an experiment in multiple ways. First, when I painted this guy up. I wanted to try and paint a black wolf for something different. I wasn't sure how to make the fur stand out, so this is the first time I've used reference photos. Also for the longest time I've been having trouble getting photos to turn out. They look fine on the phone but awful on my laptop when I try to edit them. Turns out, when you upload things to a potato, they look like potato. So I'm seeing if I can make it work with just my phone. Anyway here we go.

    Bombshell 2 Relic Meagan

After making the base for Culk the rake, I made a bunch of others and painted some minis to put on them. This pirate from Patrick Kieth's second Bombshell Kickstarter looked like she would work well with it. Couldn't really tell where her eye was, from some angles it looked like one was sculpted and others like her hair was supposed to cover it all. It actually doesn't look too bad zoomed in right now. Not quite as good from this angle. Got to use some of my Breast Cancer Awareness pink for this mini, which is always a treat. This is also my first attempt at dark skin tones.
  8. My wizard Malak and his apprentice Grubb for my Frostgrave team. The wizard is Xi-Han is from GCT's Bushido game and then his apprentice is Lunk. This guy came with a bigger mini that is supposed to be a mutated him that I'll need to paint some other time. Fairly happy with the hat and mushrooms and frog. should have doen something more for his mustache though. It looks ok in person at least. Not super happy with my snow base results this time. Grubb here might see action as his alter ego Lunk from time to time so his base is just a stone base. Most of their crew is done as well. I'll get a group shot when they are all done. (Including the replacements for my lone casualty in our first real game.)
  9. Painted this guy for a PFS game at Gencon that I didn't end up playing. Still, I like how he turned out. I removed his dagger but unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to make his hand look better after. His eyes didn't quite turn out and there is something wired about his mouth when viewed up close, but I am very happy with his base. Hmm zoomed in from behind you can still see the remainder of his sword grip. may revisit that and try to fix it.

    Ral Partha AD&D Classic: Taer

I have been busy painting these past months, but I have not been taking pictures and posting much, and these guys are to blame for that. I started them up many many years ago, but never could come up with a good paint scheme. My Monstrous Manual didn't have any pictures let alone a decent description, and the older pictures were all line art or black & white. Finally earlier this year I took a look at them again and was able to find 3rd ed pictures and descriptions and while very different than the old school versions it at least gave me a starting point. I could have just done them up in any ld color and been happy, but no color scheme really stood out to me, so "traditional" it is. their fur ended up not being as white as I would have liked and it doesn't help that it's hard to tell if something is supposed to be furred or bare blue skin, but Ithink it's more or less ok now. Now the reason I haven't posted was because for a while now I have just not been able to take miniature photos I'm at all happy with and these guys were the worst for it since they are mostly blue and white so it was hard to get a picture where their eyes (which I spent quite a bit of time on) even remotely stood out. Even now I'm not completely happy with the pictures, but like the minis I guess I just have to learn when it's just good enough. So without any further ado Taer This one got panted black with grey dry brushing for a while, but it just didn't seem like enough. This one was the worst to photograph as his rock kept casting shadows on his face. i like how the rock turned out at least. This one spent the last decade solid grey. I wish I could have done more to make the eyes stand out, but my hand is not very steady so it either works or it doesn't. The team together. Ready to fight off adventurers and keep them from invading their snowy mountaintop dungeon complex Really turned down the settings on this picture because even the previous pictures look too washed out now that I've got them cropped down. Comments? Critiques? Photography advice? Business ventures for for young Taer seeking promising careers with advancement opportunities? Edit: Gah! Blown up the first 3 photos look even worse now. I may retake them and replace them at some point, if I can ever pin down whats going wrong. in the last photo I turned off the auto settings on my phone and set them manually, but it was all guess work since literally none of the buttons and symbols mean anything to me.

Ral Partha AD&D Classic: Snow Troll

Another old mini that I painted at the same time as the Taer. Initially I just primed him white and called it good, but since I was painting the Taer, I figured he'd be a good one to paint along side them since he would have a similar color scheme. He was also equally a pain the %&^$#@ elf to photograph, didn't matter if I was using a neutral background or my dungeon tiles. he would inevitably be washed out and or blurry. while trying to experiment I got a decent picture of him on top of my trash can out side. This guy is very much based on his art in the Monstrous Compendium Annual Volume One. Drawn by one of my favorite D&D artists Tony Diterlizzi. Hmm blown up it's still a little blurry now. I don't get it, the S8 is supposed to have an awesome camera, but it seemed like I was getting better pictures with my wife's old Ipad. I really thought I had finally gotten a picture of him that actually worked. Might try and fix this later as well.
  12. I haven't posted anything in a while now, but I have been painting quite a bit. Unfortunately I just haven't been able to get good pictures lately. I think it might be because I finished my hobby room now take pictures downstairs in the basement with less natural light. Sadly It means I had to abandon my dungeon setting for pictures and go to regular photo back grounds, But at least I now have a set up that works for taking pictures now. So I'll be playing catch up for little while with posting some things I've gotten done lately. So With out further ado, this was my Gencon MHE contest entry for this year, a Noh Empire squad. I actually got a bronze this year even though my group base was still really rough. I was super happy about that Bronze! Like I said my group base was really rough and unfinished, but I don't think it counted against me since it was sort of optional anyway. Marikan To was my first major attempt at lining. Mostly on her wraps and on her quiver. I think her skin needed more highlighting but I'm not really sure how to highlight smooth skin yet. The Beastmaster I think turned out pretty good. I was very happy with the faces on his armor. His skin looks like it could use a touch more shade, but otherwise I'm happy. The Hounds of Nozuki were a bit tricky since their fur had no detail I had to try and figure out how to make it look interesting (I had the same issue with Marikan To's hair). I think they turned out ok. I was getting a little burned out on the bases by the time I got to these guys. Marikan To's bird companion. His base took the longest and he was just about the last figure I finished since I wasn't entirely sure how and where I wanted his coloration. Thanks for looking. Let me no if you have any comments, critiques or advice for next time. I'll post some other stuff I've finished tomorrow.

    Hobgobageddon ( photo heavy)

So here are my hobgoblins. Complete with weapon swaps from the basic weapon set for the commander and from armory of death and vice for the berserker. Detail on the commander's face was a little shallow but I made do.

    Hellborn wizard

I painted this guy up for a Pathfinder game. He is a swashbuckling occultist and has been fun to play so far the few times we've gotten to play. He's been painted up for a while now, but I just got around to taking his picture. I hadn't fill an odd Gabon one wrist and use some green stuff to thicken his other wrist, since the pointing hand's wrist was so thin. I dry brushed some interference gold on to the base so it looks a different color from certain angles.

    Female wraith

I did this wraith while waiting for the hobs to dry. I think she turned out pretty well. She also served as a waste paint receptacle for all the left over blue for the commander's cape Been trying out uploading these from my wife's iPad. It's much faster but it means I can't trim the photo's so I might come back and do that later.

    CAV Regent

I also painted this guy a while ago. just now getting pictures up of some of what I've been working on. It's legs aren't actually glued on, just tight fitting enough to stay on their own so I just left them like that for now.

    Hackmaster simian orcs

By request, some hackmaster orcs I painted some time ago. For some reason this this next guy is coated in something and I'm not sure what. It can be wiped off to some degree but I'd really like to know how to clean him up.
  18. A happy birthday to you! :bday:

    Dwarven Archer Paint n take

This guy was done a while ago, but I just never got around to posting him. He was done at Odyssy Con in Madison at their paint n take back in April. Unfortunately I don't know who makes him. The people at the paint n take couldn't remember where he came from but thought he might be Iron Wind. Anyone have any ideas? I really like how he turned out particularly since I painted him in a little over an hour. Edit: Man he was really uncooperative to photograph. I need better lighting and maybe some actual dullcoat.
  20. My Gen Con entry for this year. Overall I'm very happy with her. It's one of the best faces I've done so far. Had a lot of trouble assembling her though. The spear arm gave me fits as it snapped off several times and afterwards I couldn't seem to get it on straight and without gaps again. eventually I was able to fill it with a tiny amount of green stuff. Also had a little trouble pinning her to the base. You can tell she's not exactly flat on it, she actually floats a tiny bit above it and I just couldn't seem to fix it. Also she's leaning, less now than she was but she's still leaning. I tried to do some OSL with the parts of the spear near her hand but I just couldn't make it look right. So I abandoned that idea for now.

    15mm Alien Paint n take

This was another mini I did at Odyssey con in April. I don't remember the company any more even though the Paint n take people told me who it was. He's from Micropanzer Very quick simple tabletop job. He'll fill in for many small multi-armed creatures of weird origins. possibly the most useful paint n take.
  22. My Iron wind speed paint. He was just a little guy but I liked him. However I was disappointed when I accidentally over washed him in black and it darkened his purple and red scales too much so that you couldn't really tell the colors. Normally I don't add any more paint a mini that's done, but I felt I needed to add some more purple when I got home to bring him closer to my original "vision".The "Before's" The "After's" I may base him up some day if needed but for now this is what he is.

    Robotic Lab assistant VEL1059

I said I would post this months ago, but never got around to taking the pictures. This is one of the Paint n takes I did at What Khan in November. He's a little slap dash as I just wasn't patient enough to let him dry properly between steps, but I think he looks alright. Comments? Criticisms? Deep seated fears?
  24. Just two dogs that I finished up this weekend. One of which I finished up months ago at a paint n take but just now decided to finish basing and the other from the Iron Wind by the ounce bins at Gencon (does anyone know his id number? I can't find him on IWM website.) Found This was my first attempt at using static grass. I'm fairly pleased. This is the one from Iron Wind and I don't know it's ID number. If anyone does that would be appreciated. It's the war dog from the historicals line No fancy basing for this one. I decided I liked how it looked plain. I had to redo some of his markings after I put the sealer on because some brown got into the sealer so Iost some of the contrast. Unfortunately I didn't remember what color I used to get the markings in the first place. This color stands out better but the old one looked more natural. The two of them together. Comments and criticisms appreciated.

    03044: Burl Oakfist, Dwarf Monk

I finished this guy up a few days ago. I just now got some pictures of him. I'm fairly happy with how he turned out. I've been working on him along with a few other things that I've either been meaning to get to or needed to be finished up. He's the first one done despite being a "meaning to get to" rather than a "needing to be finished." Also, I think I may have figured out this camera thing on the Ipad. He's another Pathfinder Society character. He only gets played when my wife plays her Sorceress though. He'll be a Drunken Master/ Alchemist named Dharim Barrelfist. Enjoy.
