    Female Wraith - 77536

This is my first attempt at object source lighting. I'm still pretty new to this hobby, so any advice is appreciated!
  2. Hey, long time no post. I've been painting up some spooky minis for a Curse of Strahd campaign. Painted these two and finished last night. I started with an airbrush, but ended with a whole lot of brushwork and glazing.

    Citrine paints the Ghostbride

This figure is the Reaper 3718 Ghostbride in metal. I wanted to do some white practice on her, and she is probably my most artsy figure, considering she has a purple base and not some mundane colored ground. I tried to have her be very white, with the white being on top of different base colors, but at the same time have the purple come up from the base. Mostly happy with her. I had planned on having her hair be blond, but the dark hair just popped so nicely against the pale skin. As a bonus, she did see some game time in our last session as the ghost of a young woman killed by her jealous fiance. Her father became a vampire to try to bring her back to life.

    Bones 4 Translucent Ghost Pirates

I recently painted a pack of passed-away pea-green pirates that you can practically peer through, and posed the party for some pictures. Pithy painting prose on the particulars posted for perusal: http://allbonesabout.blogspot.com/2019/05/ghost-pirates-bones-4-figures.html I ordered an additional set of the pirates so i could have a unit of 10 for gaming purposes.
  5. These are from the Ghosts of Midlam Manor Kickstarter. I love these sculpts and I just got an airbrush, so I wanted to try sort of a blue zenithal ghost effect. They are more blue than the camera shows, I'm still getting used to the photo booth and lighting. (Plus I should probably use the real camera instead of my phone.) Overall I'm happy!

    Lurien, Ghost

My Lurien ghost figure done. I started it during a teaching session by MaGie (NL). Finally finished it. Learn alott about transission, and tried some new skin tones. Happy with the result. Great sculp!!
  7. This miniature is from a Midlam Miniatures kickstarter. The lack of highlighting and shading is intentional since I was going for the single-color arcade look. I had to put some putty over the sculpted eye holes to get a nice flat surface for the cartoony eyes. Overall I'm quite happy with Inky! This is for the video game theme portion of the RP Challenge.

    77536: Female Wraith

I did a quick paint job on a female wraith for my D&D games. I didn't do a lot of detail on her. I wanted her to look a little glowy and creepy. I think she turned out pretty well and will be adequately scary!

    77369, Shadow

While you enter the dark corridor leading in a gloomy room, you feel your strength slowly drains from your arms. You realize with terror that you are not alone here. Shadows dance around you and dark grimacing faces appear to torment you... Here's a translucent 77369, Shadow, Dark Heaven Bones sculpted by Dennis Mize.

    77007 Ghost WIP

So after trying out a verdigris effect on the bronze shield of a Skeletal Swordsman I thought that the mixture would also work well for a ghostly figure minus the isopropyl alcohol. enter 77007 Ghost mini. Mixture: 1 drop naga green, 2 drops Dragon blue, 1 drop dragon white, 2 drops water. If needing to speed paint I found that a light wash leaves enough of the white plastic showing and could negate having to go back with white highlights later. Here I just did a single base coat. Think I will do one more base coat and then move on to shade, though i'm not sure what i'll use to darken it as i think black might be too dark, mountain grey maybe? then i'll use some maggot white for highlights. In hindsight i forgot to shave the mold lines in my hast to see how the mixture would look on the mini

    Barrow Warden Lord 03653

Painted this ghostly ghoul for my players to fight this weekend. The purple highlights on the cloak didn't come out vibrant as I had hoped, but I think it still looks pretty good. I was really happy with the rusted armor, although it didn't get captured in the pics very well. The sword is supposed to look like it was glowing blue, but I got lazy near the end and sort of skipped it. I'm planning on going back some day to add that effect, but for now I'll consider it done. I would appreciate any critiques and advice. Thanks in advance!

    An Unfriendly Ghost

Mold lines, it seems, are my weakness. Fortunately, this model, which I absolutely love, had lots of wrinkly bits that I could use to try and hide them. :-)

    Ghost King 77161

Whipped this Ghost King up while I was taking a break from writing up an adventure. Blue is my favorite color, and I decided to dive in head first with all of my different blue paints. This is the first time I have tried adding high lights on the cloaks, and I think it made a huge difference. Critiques and advice welcome as always, especially advice on high lights. Thanks in advance!

    WizKids Ghosts

I used the same combo of copper verdigris wash and maggot white on these. For some reason any pictures I tried to take of other angles didn't come out well. Perhaps they're shy.
  16. This is the Sea Ghost from AD&D module U1: the sinister secret of saltmarsh. It will hopefully be used in my group's upcoming D&D pirates campaign set in 1600's Jamaica. Its layers will be separable, with each surface being a sort of game board for each deck of the ship, from forecastle/poop, to main deck, to cargo deck, to bilge. I'm going to try to pin the layers together so they don't just fall apart by using the mast and rudder to keep the layers aligned when they are stacked. It is made of 3/4" polystyrene insulation sheets, cut, stacked, and sanded down with a belt sander. In the end it will have paint and probably balsa wood details. That's the Barnabas Frost mini that I posted in the show-off forum standing on the deck in a few of the photos.

    FitzBones: Scythe Wraith

My Bones III Kickstarter fulfillment arrived a couple of days ago, and I've been happily sorting through them. I've engaged in all three Reaper kickstarters so far, but I doubt that I'll do another — it's not that they're not a good deal, but there's always a very, very long wait for them to arrive, and they've all been very heavy on the character figures, of which I really do have an ample supply. I mainly want the monsters, and it'll be simpler just to buy them individually when they eventually appear in the shop. I chose this one to start the painting with, mainly because it would be very quick and easy to do, and in fact it only took about twenty minutes. It probably would have taken longer if I'd actually removed any of the mould lines, which I kind of forgot about in my enthusiasm. I don't know what its SKU is; I couldn't find it with a (fairly brief) search in the online store.

    Graveyard Expansion Ghost

1st time poster longtime lurker :) Its my 1st time working on a ghost mini and I am looking for some advice. I and using the white basecoat then verdigris technique to try and paint this guy up but I feel like there is something missing from it. I also feel like the I need to do something with the center hollow part on his front side. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance all!

    77095: Ghostly Summons

So, when I first tried painting this, I made tolerably decent base for it, coated it with Tamiya Clear Green, and observed that the details were totally unclear. So I highlighted it with yellow. And it looked .... AWFUL. And therefore, I put it on the Shelf of Shame, from whence it has been reproaching me these past three years. "Fiiiiniiish usss," the ghostly damsels kept whispering to me in spooky undertones. "Nope," I said, and returned to all kinds of other projects. "Awwww," they would say, and disspiritedly return to moping in their eldritch green flame. But tonight, I finally decided that the only solution was to disregard the translucent plastic and paint the ladies as if they were any other mini. Thus, I give you a Ghostly Summons. Pics linked for nudity. Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Pic 7 Pic 8 Pic 9 I had to wipe the whole thing down with a wet brush to remove the surface dust first. >.> I think the skin tone on the green one came out best. I have no earthly idea when I'll actually use this mini for anything, but at least they're off the Shelf of Shame.

Was asked to paint this up for a friend who loves Japanese stuff and is planning on running a game based around Asian stuff. Not sure of the company, they just handed me the mini. The base I had was a teeny bit smaller then the actual mini. So I moved the limbs a bit to make it look like it is creeping off the base. Actually really like the effect. Kind of wish it was my mini to keep.

    Ghost Story mini-diorama

This was started as a small-ish side project, but ended up being a big-ish project. With a lot of new things for me. The ghost is an old mini that I painted many years ago, and was quite happy with at the moment. And as I started up in this hoppy again, I thought I might build a base for it. I wanted it to look dark or low-light, so used a bit darker colors as I would normally have used, but I still wanted to use colors. I'm really happy with the result, I think it's the best piece of landscape I have made. And I learned a couple new things. A big thanks to all that commented and came with ideas and helpfull tips throughout the process. The Wip thread is here. Figures used; The Ghost: I think it is an Ral Partha, as most of my minies from back then seems to be, or does anyone recognise it? Skeleton: 77018 Reaper Skeleton Archer set, converted. Skulls and grave stones: Ristuls. Vegetation: Army Painter turfts, Noch and some home-made from an old brush. Tutorials more or less followed; Hanging moss on the tree: http://laughingferret.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/to-z-spanish-hanging-moss-tutorial.html A lot of good stuff: https://daggerandbrush.wordpress.com/

    77097 Grave Wraith

I try to comfom to the posting title and tags rules as laid down by the high and mighty,..please let me know if anything need to be done differently. --- So, 2017 has arrived.Time to mess about with spirits. The first series of translucent Bones were made either in orange or in a bright greenish tinge, and it seems I only ever got round to painting one or two of the green ones. We can't have that, can we? As with all the translucents, the key is to prime the model with matte varnish. I use Army Painter Anti-Shine spray for this. After that I use mainly inks as they also are translucent. I have learned the hard way that normal paints are opaque and should be kept to a minimum if I want to keep the minis even slightly translucent. For this piece I started with a liberal coating of Vallejo Green Ink, taking care to draw off exessive pooling of ink with a damp brush. After that I used some old red lidded hexpot Citadel Turquoise Glaze on the bottom half. I detailed the mini with a very light dusting of normal light bone paint on it's visible skeletal hand, and a slightly heavier drybrushing of ScaleColour Cobalt Alchemy light blue metallic on the sword and crossguard, as if it is half-materialized. I also painted the inside of the hood's cowl with ScaleColor Bloodfest Crimson (a very dark red/brown). What cannot be seen in the pictures are the pinpoint bright yellow/green eyes in the depths of the cowl. The gravestone with skulls was done in typical greys and bone-colour with a simple strong tone quickshade for effect. Now all it needs is some matte varnish to take the edge off the shinyness of the inks, but that will have to wait until springtime. 77097 Grave Wraith Reaper Bones KS1 Sculpted by Bob Ridolfi Green translucent Bonesium PVC 40m base

    This is Halloween... 2016

I know I'm not following the guidelines by entering more than one mini per thread, but there's a theme to these. I'll take more chocolate to the next con and beg for forgiveness then. First up, Lurien 03170 Next, Spirits 03298 Now a mini I picked up at the paint and take at Origins, Sorrow from Malefaux: And some Zombiecide, well, zombies. The models were shiny when I go them already primed at the paint and take at Origins, and painting did not do much to knock it down. And finally an Iron Wind Metals mini to go with the zomibes: Not as many models this year, but I did get some nice ones in my order from Reaper today, so maybe a better showing next year. Happy Halloween! Bonus mini, 77352 Demi-Lich. Not really happy with this one. One interesting thing to note, though. There seems to be more than one skeleton on the base...
