    Cloud Giantess: Yephima 2.0

I wasn't sure if I should post this in Show off or WIP, but I figured here and if you would please forgive the in progress parts in the subsequent post. Ron let me paint this lovely sculpt by Gene Van Horne. Actually, I think I might have begged to paint it and considered stealing it from his office if he refused. She'll be in the Greek Odyssey Expansion for Bones V. If by some miracle you have come to this forum and not heard of Bones V, it can be found here. Aaron Lovejoy was awesome and took some high definition photos of her after last Reapercon. I really love this sculpt, can't say that enough. She's got some fantastic detail, lots of good open space to work on blending or freehand, even a scenic base to play with stone effects. While I loved the original Yephima by Patrick Keith, and still use her in my classes, this one really screams warrior to me. I need to paint my bones version when I get it as Athena. I'll have to add a shield somewhere, though. Maybe convert the club to a spear. Decisions decisions. Anyway, feel free to ask questions. I'm happy to explain or help with anything! I'm going to post the WIP pictures I have in another post, so hopefully those will also be useful. Enjoy!

    77116 Colossal Skeleton

Hi all. I just finished the Colossal Skeleton that I've had for a couple years now. For the longest time I was holding off because I was afraid of doing a mini so much bigger than all the rest. I've gotten some nice reviews on some of my recent stuff so I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at my first large figure. I have several sets much larger than even this guy so I had to start somewhere. The closeup pics show how much work I did on the fur for the back lioncloth as well as the wood grain lines I painted on the planks on his right thigh. I based him on a wooden plaque my mom was getting rid of that I painted black. I was doing more work on the base, it was supposed to have some more colours in it but I messed up on the drybrushing so I called it finished and hid the mistake with some static grass . So far one friend has told me the blue rags pull him out of the mini because they look too new and blue while the rest of him is old and rotted. Maybe he could do with some more staining on the blue but it doesn't bother me much. Anyways, enough preamble, I hope you all like him enough as my first large mini! Edit: forgot to apologize for the make-believe "lightbox" photos, but that's how it goes.

The Saga of BELIUS the black, by Stephane Simon

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/simonminiatures/the-saga-of-belius-the-black/description Belius versus Angus and Branag Belius the Black is a giant with mysterious origins. We say about him that it is the reincarnation of a god, or even, the guardian of an ancient temple. In short, according to the babarian tribes of the North, it is a black legend related to Bregan Lorelei’s great-grandfather. Bélius is a 70 mm figurine sculpted by me, not counting my hours, in order to obtain the incarnation of the warrior of evil, chaos and destruction. The resin cast will be made by Mr Dès, former melter of Rackham , a pledge of high quality. This project , a range of dark fantasy figurines, is important because I can create from A to Z what i want while satisfying the fans of my work. Indeed, I have been sculpting figurines for more than 20 years : First, for Rackham for 9 years and then for various freelance brands such as Mierce Miniatures, Monolith with Conan, Mythic Battles and Claustrophobia which are successful on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter platform will allow me to finance the moulds for all the figurines, which are all my personal creations. Knowing that the fans of my work will be able to hold them in hand, paint them, or play with them in any kind of games is really a great pleasure for me. This first step is important because i imagine that these figurines are destined for a game in the future. Belius is accompanied by two brothers, Angus and Branag (35mm): They are barbarians from northern tribes. They are elite soldiers ready to do anything to protect their lands and the Elebore Forest from any intrusion in the name of their leader, the demigod Siegfried. NEXT SG to come:3480€ BAAL-Thus, 60mm of brutal force! Shipping informations: The shipping costs are the same for all pledges and for a number of unlimited miniatures. France:7 euros UE:8 euros Rest of the world:10 euros

"The Giantess" by RBJ Game Company

I've been waiting for this one to go live, a excellent sequel to their Fairytale Giant, here comes a massive Giantess from RBJ Game Company https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1620164718/the-giantess?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=giantess Stretch goals will have alternate build options: They also have most of their previous projects as add-ons. I really liked the demo pieces they've included in ReaperCon swag bags.

    Gourls paints a Frost giant

Hey there! It's been awhile. I've painted a few things recently, but it's been sporadic. I have plenty of minis to paint, but have been fighting sometimes to find the mood to or to find time. Anyway! Personal crap aside, here is my rendition of the frost giant from the Nolzur's Marvelous Unpainted Miniatures line, which seems to be the same sculpt as the Harshnag from the Icons of the Realms series of pre painted minis. Enough of my blabbering, on with the pics! Unfortunately I didn't push the contrast a ton here. It's clear to see in hand, but it doesn't really show up in the photos all that well. Still good practice though. And he'll terrify my players all the same.
  10. I started a second first giant queen recently. I've done a fair amount of work on her so far but still have a long way to go.
  11. So I'm painting up the Mantic Giant. I'm calling him James, because the head I'm using is very much a James Hetfield head. Say hi, James. I started off by priming with a sample of Badger's Stynylrez that I got with last year's RCon swag bag and my Badger Patriot 105 airbrush. I'm pretty sure the primer is their olive green. I used the olive green because I couldn't find the sample bottle of the more off-white/yellow Stynylrez primer that I got from the swag bag two years ago. Then I found it after I finished priming and started trying to mix up a flesh tone. Go figure. I didn't take any pictures of the primed pieces, because all they were was olive green all over. When mixing up my skin tone, I wanted something tanned looking, but darker and more bronzed than Reaper's tanned skin. I wanted it to look more like how the skin of someone who works outside all summer long tends to look, with that almost leather look that they tend to get. After all, a giant like this guy isn't going to be spending a lot of time indoors, especially not if he's part of an army. So I started with Vallejo bronze fleshtone and leather brown in roughly equal parts. Which ended up too orange. So I upped the leather brown, and it was still too orange. So I added in Reaper Tanned Shadow, and I almost got it where I wanted. The final touch was some Reaper tanned skin, and I got it to be good enough. Don't ask me proportions, because after the first mix I have no idea. I just threw some color in, stuck it to the vortex mixer for a few seconds, and then looked again to see if I liked it. I finished it off by making it airbrush-ready with some Createx 4012 reducer. In this picture, it's the unlabeled bottle in the middle. The other bottles are the paints I mixed together to get it. Now, armed with my skintone, I decided that I wanted to try a different airbrush. So I broke out my Badger Renegade Krome for the very first time and started applying. The difference between the Krome and the Patriot is night and day because of one simple, but amazing, feature - an adjustable trigger stop. It's freaking sweet. No worries about over spraying massive amounts of paint accidentally, and you have so much more control over your lines because of it. And the skin is where I stopped for the night.

    77106 BONES Frost Giant Jarl

This was my entry for the Reaper Fan Facebook Page Paint Your Giants Contest. This is the biggest thing I ever painted not on a canvas. The last time I entered one of these, I felt like it would have done better if the base told more of a story, so that is what I tried to achieve with this one. I wanted it to portray REVENGE! The Jarl had his left eye gouged out by a young upstart white dragon. He healed, regrouped, and hunted down the dragon to enact his revenge. I hope you like it. The final results have now been posted. He placed 4th behind some mind-blowing work. I wanted some orange on the model to play against the blue skin, for color theory. Originally, it was going to be glowing runes on the rock and skulls, but I abandoned that for the sake of time/completion. I settled with orange tones in the leather. I wasn't really sure how to get the TMM of the crown to look like a gouge, or how to make his blue skin look like a scar. I'm not entirely sold on the result, but I'm sure I'll try again some day on a different model. The Monster Manual suggests blue skin with white/gray/dirty blonde hair is the usual coloration. I tried to go to full white for the highlights of the face to make it the focal point. I wanted him to look like he was wearing a polar bear pelt, and that all the fur trim was also polar bear. I tried to make it look a little muddy on the bottom, and on his shoes. This was how I wanted to weather the inside of the bear skin, to make it look like it had that dried cracked appearance. Not sure how well it shows up in the picture. These were some WIP shots. The black and white was to figure out how to highlight the sword. I wanted the sword and stone items to look like shiny flint. I hit the sword and most of the other stone items with high gloss varnish to help sell the effect. The front and back of the sword. Finally, some more details of the base and the white dragon victim. I wanted to base the dragon as a purple in the recesses, similar to the effect going on on the cover of Hoard of the Dragon Queen module. This was the BONES Temple Dragon I sacrificed. He is smaller, but his tongue sticks out perfectly to sell the dead dragon effect. And he's not as expensive to replace as Deathsleet! I pained his eyes half-rolled into his head to complete the idea. I tried to freehand some anatomy on there: vertebral body, muscle groups, esophagus, carotid arteries/jugular veins. I also tried to be accurate with the blood spray coming from both arteries, and didn't want to go too crazy with the gore. Finally, I wanted it to look like his hot blood had melted some of the snow. Overall, this was a wild ride. The early part of the contest saw him at #2. Then he gave up some ground and sat at #3 for a long time. Then another Frost Giant (Queen) made a great surge at the end to unseat me out of #3 into 4th place. To be honest, there were so many awesome paint jobs, I'm just humbled and honored to be in the top 20. Thanks for looking. C&C Welcome.
  13. For your viewing pleasure is Vanja, the Fire Giant Queen - without that hot, itchy cloak. The spot for her cloak was filled in and sculpted with Green Stuff to match her muscular anatomy. Bones, Basil! Bones! I am continually impressed with the Bones medium. High detail, resilient, and inexpensive. She is going into my Orcs and Goblins Oldhammer Army. Enjoy.

    Stone Giant

From the Facebook contest, although my frost giant queen was better I’d already shared her so I ended up using this guy. I was the only person who chose this model- I guess he is a bit understated. i was happy with how he came out. c&c always welcome!

  18. I was moving miniatures around in the basement yesterday in preparation for moving and ran across the box containing the Stonehaven giants Kickstarter figures. When I ordered them originally, I figured that the first one up would be the sleeping/dead giant. I was/am expecting him to feature more as an objective marker than an active combatant. Anyway, I washed him off and spray primed him last night, after which I was afflicted with the fear that the resin might not be compatible with the spray primer, but I appear to have lucked out. This is just as well, as it looks like these giants are going to be exclusive to the Kickstarter production run, so replacing it could be a problem. I have also primed the next six Oathsworn Burrows and Badgers figures that I wished to do, so I was feeling ambitious this morning. In practice for the new house where there won’t be a permanent painting space, I pulled out the travel paint kit and had at things, working back and forth between them as colors overlapped. The raven mage got a purple hood in honor of the local American football team. Since ravens appear to be pretty uniformly black, I was mostly drybrushing some highlights. After spraying, I should have made them even contrastier, because they are pretty invisible without the flash. Live and learn... Anyway that puts me up to a dozen, so I should be able to run two war bands and get a game on the table relatively soon, even if just as a solo.
  19. The time has come. The stars are right. The planets align. GenCon is nearly upon us. And so the great Iymrith rises upon the Mountain peak. As Eldritch Lingtning ignites the cloudy skies and strikes the very Mountain Peak around her! She prepares for her journey to the great Gladiator Pits in a distant place known only as Indy. Where bands of skilled and Mighty warriors shall fight for her amusement, in the faint hopes to win her favor. She hopes not to be dissappointed, yet again. ----- Whew. This took me so very far out of my comfort zone! A real Trophy Style Base, LED Lighting Effects, Using Pine Bark Chips, Scraping off most of the Yellow Clear "Paint" I put on the Bolts, ect. BUT, she is done! And She Looks FREAKING AMAZING! Now to just put the finishing touches on the last couple prizes, and I'm done with this project! Anywho, Let me know what you think of her. Please tell me You like her and think I did a good job and that I did not just waste about a month on this for nothing. GF

    DDM Prizes for GenCon 2018

So I'm going to be repainting some D&D Minis for the DDM Guild's Prize support at GenCon 2018. Just really got started last night, but progress is progress. Sorry about the crappy phone picture. So, I'm gonna be keeping track of my progress here. My deadline is the first full weekend of July, the 8th or so. As I'll need to mail them to someone who is actually attending:( GF

    Ral Partha 11-436: Frost Giant

Here is an old frost giant I got in a collection my high school friends gave me. I’ve painted him up to look Viking-ish, as I think that was Gary Gygax’s original conception. The snow consistency is not right. I’d like it to be fluffy and smooth. Need practice...
  22. Howdy, She's from Cloud Nine... Kev! P.S. She's not big boned, she's fluffy! P.P.S the tags are acting weird... limit 4, no caps? P.P.P.S It's cotton ball material on the base

    Frost Giant Queen

Finally finished her. boy, that blue skin was tricky and I’m still not entirely happy, but considering how much time I spent on her I feel pretty good.
  24. I’ve been working on this guy for months, off and on. Finally pushed him through to completion last night. I hope you like him.
  25. These are the first figures I painted after lurking around here for a few months. Think they came out well.
