This specific miniature awed and amazed me ever since I saw it. I started painting since bones 3 was just on the market (missed it myself, didn't find Reaper yet back then). The size, the pose, the vigor, it was just amazing. But sold out. Everywhere. Always. Untill it wasn't! And at a later time at a fair, I even scored another so I can add the Frost wyrm variety at a later moment! This beast of a mini is done and ready to terrorize my D&D players! Apologies for the MANY photo's but I'm just so excited 😄

Well after doing some adjustments to both my air compressors I decided that I need to use my airbrushes more and start knocking out some of the bigger minis I have. Gotta justify buying more minis, maybe airbrush’s, and/or airbrushing stuff. I have a little more to do but aiming to do quick paint for table top, and work on skill building.

So this sat on my shelf of shame after starting and hating the earth tones I was trying to go for. I covered it in a sepia wash out of frustration and put it on the shelf to finish later that week. Since then, it's just stared at me for way too long. (I started it almost right after receiving it in Bones 3.) So I just decided to finish it, even if I wasn't in love with the colors. Now I actually really love it. I didnt have a Sir Forescale so here is Andowyn Thrushmoor for size. Colors used Ruddy Brown, Golden Brown, Woodland Brown, Stained Ivory, Creamy Ivory, Carnage Red, Clotted Red, Bloodstain Red, Monster Maw, Sepia Wash and Walnut Brown (new favorite color)

I painted Goremaw the Great Worm up as a fire-infused purple worm for a unique creature from the Pathfinder setting of Galorion. I am running the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP in D&D 3.5, and this creature will show up in my game tonight. It is my first finished creature miniature (I have done some terrain previously), and being a perfectionist, I put in 48 hours of work on him (lots of nooks and crannies, and I don't have an airbrush). I finished him last night, reaching the "good enough" state, as time didn't allow me to put off varnishing him any further. As usual, here's another project started ... this, along with some other stuff I will be posting { *insert future time code* } once I have made a bit more progress on them, are part of ... As some of you may have seen, Goremaw has been sitting on my desk since we moved in and I received my Bones 3 order. I recently received another Kickstarter order that started me down my Holiday Vacation path ... Stonehaven's Giants and Stonehaven's Adventurers. I received 11 new giants to add to the Joten horde. At the last Paint Day, I cleaned all eleven resin minis and then the following day I based them all and finished prepping them by priming them with my Armor Spray Primer. Six of them were primed black for a dark starting point and 5 were primed white. I also wanted to work on the base for my Reaper Fire Giant Jailor from Bones 3. He was "assembled" but wouldn't stay standing on his base very well on my desk. Keep an eye out for his WIP. That inevitably led to Goremaw getting his base suped up and his minor gaps filled. No, that's not sugar ... just cheap (clearance) sand. There are two grades of sand on there. The red is like sugar crystals. The darker brown around the base is actual Virginia sand from the beach near Yorktown. It filled in over the red sand and makes a more earthy surface than the "pebbles" the red sand will be. The whole thing is sealed with Testor's Dullcote to allow me to spray the Primer on it. As you can see the cracks in the bark make for excellent rocks. The pink from the sand will come into play a bit when I incorporate the blue from the Timeless Desert. Oh, right, I haven't explained my Blue Work of Markshire. Markshire is my PnP campaign world and was a Neverwinter Nights (video game) persistent world for a bit. The Blue Worms are rare monsters that inhabit the Timeless Desert. A frozen wasteland that used to be a vast grassland. You can read more about Markshire and specifically the Timeless Desert on my Markshire.com website. Here's a screenshot from the game area: Intentions for Goremaw: Blue Hide with lighter blue, almost white Ridges. Blue similar to the Horizon in the pic above. The Spines on the body will be darker colored. Not sure if it will be a blue or perhaps a black like a claw. The mandibles will be purplish color, closer to mauve. The fangs will be bright white at the points and duller near the mandibles. The inner mouth will be more classic red coloring The belly will be a lighter blue tinged with a pink/purple for the softer tissue The sand will reflect the twilight blue of the desert pictured above, which is why the red will help bring in some depth of color. The stones will all be granite and similar in coloring There you have it. The start of the Holiday Vacation Series '17. Oh, yeah, you may be wonder what I mean by "Holiday Vacation Series" ... well, I have 8 days of vacation left and two large holidays. I simply don't have the means to take two the time in one large vacation. So I've scheduled myself to be off 4 Mondays prior to my usual Christmas week vacation between Christmas day and New Year's day. By far the SLOWEST week of our year. So, technically, this gives me ... does the math ... a lot of days off. We close for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are also paid holidays. But, what exactly am I going to be doing with this series ... nothing specific. I am just trying to keep myself motivated and you all excited for the next post. Stay tuned and Enjoy

Goremaw, the great purple worm, I made lots of mistakes while painting this mini. I had to go back and correct a lot of over painting. Tried to use Army painter paints, didn’t care for them. Constructive criticism is welcome. Sticking to Reaper paint from now on.

Will be using these in an upcoming game so these are tabletop quality. Been waiting to paint my Goremaw as it seems just to be such an awesome monster to instill fear into players over my other Purple Worms I have in my collection from the DDM line. With the Wolf Demon, I tried to have it be more dynamic with the feet causing the ground to heat up. First time trying something like that with a heat effect; I think it worked ok. I know the shading and drybrushing could be better on him, but I had about 1 night to paint him before I need to use him. I haven't edited anything in Photoshop to make it look pretty. Sorry. :P

Here is my painting today, my Goremaw. I am doing some of the bigger models to aim for my 77580: Ma'al Drakar the Dragon Tyrant, which I hope to paint this month. I am particularly happy how the maw worked out. I'll do the base tomorrow, I think. C&C?

I'm just really proud of this, my first work with an airbrush ever. Maybe it's not the best skill & craft work out there for finishing a figure, but I think I win some points for originality. What I learned... Sometimes, inspiration comes when you think your finished (my son said "I thought you were going for a nebula") Sometimes, your wife says "It needs something iridescent" when you think you're done and she's right. Sparkling Amethyst on the spines Airbrushing means mixing and getting your consistency exactly right - I got lucky on my first try Airbrushing base colors is insanely fast, uses almost no paint and produces something much more even than I could dry-brushing Dry brushing is great for aging/leathering a piece - airbrushing is all about consistency of coverage. Trying to add red-shifted & blue-shifted stars to the star field looked like birthday cake sprinkles. Nature always has better color schemes than I can come up with on my own. I still need to figure out how to layer/thin/build up my colors. After initial airbrushing with Violet Shadow and Clear Magenta and maybe a mix with aged bonne for the belly. First pass at layering for the spikes. I've got some learning to do. Another angle at the "ready for detailing" stage. My son said "nebula" and I broke out the clear blue and thinned it, but probably not enough. Here's the "finished" product. I detailed so many stars in the blue areas. Then my wife said "iridescent" and I added Sparkling Amethyst to the spines. It's a great touch and highlights the raised part of the body instead of leaving it the same as the rest. For scale against another recent work, my lizardman army.

I've completed a second batch of miniatures from Bones 3. I'm glad to be done with them, and some may have been a bit rushed; I bit off a bit more than I could chew. The Plague Marines, Cave Goblins, and some random others were all on the table at the same time. First, a group shot: A bundle of terrain, from the Crypt expansion. One wall is not, and was a sample from the ReaperCon swag bag. It just snuck in! Goremaw, the Devourer of paint! I'm so glad I used craft paints on him, I'm not sure how many bottles of purple I would have gone through otherwise. A Halfling Stereotype. You'd see a statue like this in front of any fantasy pizza place. I hadn't noticed that moldline across his chest until I was uploading the photo...yikes! "Hey you guuuys!" I really enjoyed painting this one. I experimented a bit with his skin and tried to match him to the pale tones of the D&D pre-paint Fomorians. He's not quite there, but I like how he came out. Bandit. One of my favorites from the set. "Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt" gave me a new appreciation for the simple thugs that show up in every game. I hadn't realized he was meant to be wearing pants until I was inking him, and saw the patch over the knee. I liked the lesser-dressed look, so I painted it up to be a bloody bandage slapped over the knee instead. Half-Orc Merchant. Not much to be said about him, I just painted him in the style of my Warhammer Empire troops. Lastly, a bunch of Dwarves. Beagle knows it's not a Kickstarter unless it has a Dwarf or two in it.

Hi, Here is my first painted mini from Bones 3: the "Great Maw". I really love the size and weight of this "miniature" (not sure if we can still cal it "mini"). Most of the paint was done with washes on simple black and white primer. I added some high gloss varnish and some 2 part epoxy glue in some places for added slime effect. C&C Welcome. So, not having painted for a year or so, I was happy to have an excuse with the arrival of Bones 3 to get back into it. After a brief warm-up/practice run on a female cleric-figure, I had a go at Goremaw, whom I decided to do as a fiendish purple worm (purple hues, tinged with red). I love the sculpt and am decently satisfied with how it came out.

I decided to be traditional and go for a purple worm. Since I will be needing one for a future game and lets face it. The DDM one is just meh. Here is some comparison shots of Goremaw and the theme I'm going for. I decided to prime him with Pokorny Paints: Black. Now this paint is not the best option for priming I still believe liner goes on much smoother. However, for big guys like this its not so bad. You may notice a few spots that didn't get coverage. That seem to be common with this paint so you have to watch out for those if you decide to use this stuff. I will go hunting for said spots with a smaller brush as I want to ensure completely coverage.
