  1. Just pulled these out of the drawer. One of these Orcs was next in line on the Bones I Kickstarter Rewards image, so I’ll try to squad-paint them together to save time. They have been cleaned of mold lines. The spearman’s spear was very bent, as was the great sword. So, those got weapon swapped with basic weapons from Bones 3. Those are darker grey. Washed them, so just waiting for them to dry. Also had to gap fill spearman’s wrists.
  2. This is my summer exchange mini for Rainbow Sculptor. The marching orders were for Bones and something witchy. I have fallen out of favor with Bones, but Bones Black seems better so I ordered a few of those. In the end I went with the shaman. On one hand the fabric was just a large block of color that needed broken up, but on the other the contours made it difficult to do anything too fancy. Thus she ended up with a simple pattern that I could manage to get into the folds of the fabric. The skin was mixed from 09658 Christmas Wreath and 09694 Retro Emerald, just because I'd never used them.
  3. The third set of humanoids from the Lost Valley Expansion of the Bones 4 kickstarter is the Orcs of the Jade Fire tribe: Featuring an all-female cast of hard bodied primitives, with abs to break rocks on and buns of bronze. The barbaric splendor of these women rival that of the bodybuilder cast of any 80's Sword and Sorcery movie. Apart from the fact that said 80's movies usually feature male bodybuilders with any females being more of the centrefold variety both in body type and costume budget. The burning question would be: what do the male members of the Jade Fire Tribe look like? Do they have the physique of Steve Rogers before or after the serum was administered? Or are they more like bloated ant drones that barely can move while the womenfolk do all the work? Inquiring minds want to know! 44089 Jade Fire Shaman #633 The skin is Citadel Contrast Space Wolves Grey over a greyish white on black zenithal undercoat. Look closely and you will see the spatter pattern a slightly bent airbrush needle tip will leave...I need to buy myself a proper one, the cheap chinese ebay ones I have been using are really not very good at all. Good thing the Vex is coming. 44088 Jade Fire Chieftain #632 aka She-Hulk. Also the one model in all of the Lost Valley with blatantly metal-looking parts. 44096 Jade Fire Champion #636 44095 Jade Fire Warrior #635 Thirty Five dollars and a six-pack to my name! Time to break out that old Black Flag album again. 44094 Jade Fire Spearman #634 Either the naming of the Bones version of this mini is a bit off (especially since the metal version is called "Spearmaiden") or this one has the worst case of Moobs I have seen since Meat Loaf's character in Fight Club. Look, it's the stripper! Wheeee! These minis were completed August 4th 2020 Jade Fire Tribe orcs, from the Lost Valley Expansion Bones 4 kickstarter, delivered 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene van Horne Made in Bones Black PVC available from reapermini.com
  4. Artisan Guild 3D Design. Printed on my Elegoo Mars. Part of my Horde of the North Project. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79398-horde-of-the-north-glitterwolf-paints-barbarians-and-mammoths/&tab=comments#comment-1686478 Here she is. For those interested she is a free sample on Thingieverse.
  5. Quick and easy speedpaint. Thanks for looking!
  6. It's been a while since I posted here, but I wanted to share one of my current projects. I started on this 70mm orc from Yedharo back in October. I took a break from it for a while and just recently got back to work on her. When I first saw the sculpt, for some reason I immediately pictured a blue orc. I know a little untraditional, but I like to switch it up from the standard green. One of the things I wanted to work with on this piece was the use of ambient color/light. I pictured her standing over some beast she'd killed and wanted to show the light reflecting off of that and onto the orc. Since she's blue, I decided on red for the beast. It's not the easiest thing to see in the photos (the effect is more obvious in person) but you can see it most clearly from behind. When I start on the armor I'll be doing the same thing and it should be even more pronounced there since metallic objects can pick up a lot of light/color from the other objects in the scene. I'll be painting her with TMM, so there's going to be some experimentation as I work matte colors into my metallics for the reflected light. My latest progress has been to build the base. I'm not much of a sculptor, but I've been getting some practice in over the past year and feel a bit more comfortable tackling something like this. Overall I'm pretty happy with how the base sculpt turned out. Now I'm curious to see what I'll think of it when I finally start to paint it! Having the base is also nice as, when I start on the metallics, I'll have a more precise reference to work from for the reflections (instead of just the vague idea I had when I worked on the skin).
  7. Painted this one for my orc mob mordheim warband, hope you like it
  8. My starting warband for Mordheim is finally done! Hope you like them!
  9. This my orc warlord on a warg. It is a Nolzurs deep cuts orc on dire wolf miniature. I did most of the painting in one day, I do need to touch up the base and redo the finish on the flag, but otherwise he is done. I was aiming for a Hound of the Baskervilles look for the Warg. Now he just needs an actual name besides Orc Warlord.... Thanks for looking!
  10. This is one of Mantic's earliest metal minis, the "limited editon" Orc Shaman from 2011. It was AFAIK not available by itself, but added to army boxes, deals and so forth and I believe I got this from the first Kings of War kickstarter in 2012. Or an army box with orcs. Today, it is on their website and can be had by redeeming 25 mantic points through their points scheme. It was known for a while as "Wip the Half-Caste" but now is back to "Orc shaman" I suspect the "Wip the half-caste" name is some sort of internal Mantic joke. I must admit I have always found this model to be rather busy and difficult to read. There seems to be so much going on. more pics and stuff below
  11. Hi all, my first post was answered by such warm and supportive folks I decided to have a crack at the ol' orc from Reaper mini training set #1. The left eye took me 6 tries (and twice that many curses.) Really enjoying this new hobby, first time I tried was back in 1983 and it was a disaster. Maybe patience does come with age. :) #separatedbutnotseparate
  12. Orc and goblin gals are some of my favorite things to paint but alas they are few and far between
  13. Hello all, I have painted the Bones Black Jade Fire Champion. I went more vibrant than grim for her as an orc and also interpreted her dagger as being in a sheathe until I realized that it probably wasn't, given her stone axe, but oh well.
  14. I totally haven’t looked up this character’s name. He’s great. He’s an orc. Bones 4. Blah blah blah. Anyways, I stopped painting orc-face mc-Orc doodle the orc prematurely out of painting fatigue. I had lots of other shiny new bones to paint. It’s a great sculpt and he deserves respect though. So let’s try this! If you’ve got improvements to suggest I’ll implement them and post a new picture. It could be fun and you’ll motivate a fellow nerd to “brush up” and turn a decent job into a great job - which is one place I could use encouragement. You can of course call it done anytime you like, but sometimes you know the figure needs more. This will be a fun exercise.
  15. Thanks to a friend's encouragement I finished my Orctober project just in time. It may only be one lonely Shaman but he still counts! Technically also my first Bones V miniature painted since he was one of the monthly preview promos.
  16. Converted this one by using an avatars of war pit fighter body and added some greenskins bits (sword, head, etc) and greenstuff. Painted him to be used as an orc boss in my orc warband. Hope you like him!
  17. Painted up two more boys for my warband!
  18. Just finished the wizard for my upcoming mordheim/frostgrave orc warband! Hope you like him
  19. Finished this guy up.
  20. This is what I'm working on at the moment. I had to start over a few time due to issues with the sculpt. Before I even got started I had to, well I didn't have to but I chose to, fix some of the more obvious problems with the sculpt using Apoxie Sculpt. Some of the mail had no detail at all, so I add it in, and there were some just terrible mold lines. I finally just decided to say forget it and move on with the painting. I was going for more of a grey skin, but ended up with a greener skin. I'm ok with where it's going, but on the next Orc I'll adjust the skin tone. Sorry the pics are a bit wonky.
  21. Here are the boar riders from my orc army, speed painted for a competition. These are by Mantic, quite a good low priced kit.
  22. The general for my orc army is the Reven Warlord orc sergeant. Really like this figure, probably because although he is big there are not loads of bells and whistles. He just looks capable. Figure is about 35/40mm tall. Shown with the new Nolzurs pathfinder orcs for comparison purposes.
  23. I painted this fellow as a Hobgoblin, I like his blue nose Thanks for looking!
  24. I painted this guy to be used as a Big'Un in my warband (WIP thread here)
  25. So this is the test figure for my orc warband for frostgrave and mordhein (WIP thread here) I like the palette so far and I'm happy how this guy turned out. I will post other minis as I paint them. Cheers!
