  1. "If ever you chance to go to the woodsBe sure that you go by day,Or the Spindly Man with his long thin armsWill spindle you clean away." Scarecrows. The purpose is to inspire fear. For crows, the idea is that it looks like a human. For people, the issue is that it doesn't quite. Gauntfield is a truly horrific sculpt. For one, scale creep aside, he's very tall. Over eight foot in scale, if I were to judge. For another, his hands are way too big, coming down to knee level. And those hands are clutching a sack full of bones. That's a red flag. Oh, and he's a reanimated skeleton with a jack-o-lantern sack mask. That sadistic grin! the flapping tatters! The sculptor is very like Gauntfield himself, in that they are both... ...outstanding in their field. "When it comes to SURPRISES in the moonlit night..." A Bombshell promotion netted me this Autumn the Scarecrone. Less overtly skeletal, but still a construct of cloth and straw given malign, shambling life and carrying a sickle. Tatterdemalion, rag-tag, hobbledehoy. The crow on her hat is a nice touch. Her paint job and color scheme are loosely inspired by Sally from "NIghtmare Before Christmas." Bonus: Bombshell's Pumpkin Pal!

    This is Halloween... 2018

After missing last year I'm back. Good thing I started painting in August, just finished these last weekend! First up, a banshee (77096 Labella DeMornay, Banshee). Not too happy with this one, still working on finding just the right way to use the translucent Bones. I like how the dress turned out, though. Next up, 77097 Grave Wraith. Happier with this one, but still not quite right: Next, another pumpkin golem, 03708 Freddie, the Pumpkin Horror. I think I'm only missing one now. And what is Halloween without a spooky tree (03692 Halloween Tree): Keeping with the pumpkin theme, here is the Halloween Knight, 01449. Color scheme shamelessly stolen from the mobs in Scholomance in World of Warcraft. And finally, Halloween herself, 01450 All Hallow's Eve. She came out a bit more shiny than I intended. Happy Halloween everyone!

    01449: Halloween Knight

Sculpt by Bobby Jackson. This Halloween themed project was stolen borrowed from a comment made by @strawhat in the "Acquisitions" thread, Re: the shiny orange MSP sample. He suggested that the Halloween Knight would look good with shiny orange plate mail and a white pumpkin head. So that's what I did: Very pleased with how this piece turned out! The shiny is much shinier in person, but I think my favourite part, is the use of a white pumpkin. Definitely the right call! Paints I used for the majority of the work: Also made use of MSP Shadowed Stone for the shield, and MSP Pale Olive for cape highlights. As always, comments welcome! :)
  4. Whew. I finished him. I have to say, this was a fun project. The idea came to me sometime last year, but it took awhile for me to get around to working on him. I've decided that monochrome relaxes me. It's just easier somehow to take color out of the picture and just work on shadows and highlights. I think I need to vary my levels a bit, but overall, I wanted it to read as a night scene, so I'm happy. I like the idea of an accent color. I've been wanting to try that for awhile now. Though looking at him, I could probably pop the osl on his face. the pumpkin in the back worked out better- most likely because it has larger opening for the eyes. I tried to find his sku number in the catalog and failed, but this was The Headless Mousling from 2014, sculpted by Gene Van Horne.I used a bones rat, a pillar from the graveyard set, and 2 pumpkins. Anyway, enjoy and Happy Halloween! I'm using my new Iphone and seem to have issues editing, so pics may be a bit funky...

    Lidless Eye Hobbies: Get Spooky

I may have finished Orctober early this year, but that leaves plenty of time for other Halloween themed minis this year! All spookiness comes from the Bones 3 Kickstarter...actually, I think it's all from the same Crypt Expansion, except for one of the spirits. The full haunting: The Obsidian Crypt: The Graveyard Golem: The Spirits from Beyond: The true evil of the group, the Pumpkin Minions:

Here's a boss from Super Dungeon Explore. I split my set with my wife, and I was really surprised that I got to paint this one (she got Jack, so it isn't like I always get the best ones). I decided to go with a fairly limited color scheme for her. I don't remember why exactly, but I really did enjoy the pink pumpkin. Here she is.

    01549: Headless Mousling

Got this guy during last year's 12 Days of Reaper. Decided it being the halloween season and all would be a good time to paint him up. I just did a different pumpkin guy before him and learned my lesson that I wanted a more red base for the actual pumpkin itself. So this time I used cinnamon red which made a really excellent base color for his pumpkin head, then highlighted in pumpkin orange and a little mix in with yellow. I owe Clever Crow for some inspiration from their excellent work a couple years ago (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/58050-headless-mousling/). I borrowed their method of highlighting the actual mouse head and I feel it helped a great deal. Anyways, Happy Halloween and thanks for reading!
  8. I started this as a Halloween project. Things got in the way and now it is an autumn piece. Any way I had fun. I bought a ceramic Pumpkin, converted it into a house. Reaper's Elise Witch http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/elise/latest/02869And Freebooter's Chaos Witch both sculpted by Werner Klocke are conjuring pumpkins. These are now wandering off into the world to cause mayhem, The pumpkins are part Ristul's Market and I used the Owl on a Pumpkin from the Reaper Halloween Familiars http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Special%20Edition%20Figures/sku-down/01548 And I added the great Halloween Tree from Reaper: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/halloween/sku-down/03692 Hope you like it. Some Pumpkins are a bit in the ground, so they are emerging.

    P03356A: Punkin' w/ broom

Got this guy as a freebie in some prior Reaper event (maybe last year's halloween?) So decided to paint him up for the Halloween season this year. Highlighted his hat in purple, pumpkin orange for him obviously. I should have used a more reddish color for the base, I think I used fireball orange, but I rectified that on the next pumpkin guy I painted. Christmas wreath on the base of his vines so I could get a couple of my special editions in at once. Thanks for reading!

    77314: Fore! Bones Hill Giant

Right, so this was one of those crazy ideas I had one afternoon. I looked at Jason Wiebe's Bones Hill Giant and decided his anger would best be directed at a golf ball. So, I painted him up as a Scottish gent and asked poor Jack to stand in for a golf tee. Just for fun, the tartan pattern is based on the Black Watch. The base is made from sculpey. The little rodents are supposed to be Orkney voles as an ode to Caddyshack. I made the bunker texture using sandpaper pressed into the clay. The cap is greenstuff. The skin colors are walnut brown, russet brown and chestnut brown. The hair is highlighted with dark elf skin and leather white. Let me know if you want info on the other colors. I had some issues with my light setup, so excuse the pics. When I'm less fed up with the lights I may re-shoot them. In the meantime, enjoy!
  11. Entered this into the Sir Forscale contest. I'm sad to see him go, but its for the greater good.
  12. I started building a display piece, a vignette, diorama or whatever you want to call it. It will probably be too late for Halloween but then it will be a Fall / Autumn piece. Reaper 02869: Elise, The Witch and Freebooter Chaos Witch,, both by Werner Klocke will star the show. The idea is they live in this Pumpkin house ( obtained in a garden centre, added a plastic door from a board game) and they are conjuring spooky pumpkins. The Halloween tree stands next to their house. So here are the first pics.

    03356: Pumpkin Horrors

Since I just made my October order I figured it would be appropriate to post the mini I got in the goody package last year. Enjoy!
  16. So I've begun my entry for the impromptu Halloween contest; 03377, Rotpatch the pumpkin golem. The prep work was done last year, black gesso and dry brushed white. I've been meaning to paint him as the primary antagonist in a D&D game for some time now, so this seemed the best opportunity. Begun the base coating has: Army Painter Lava Orange for the pumpkins. SO MANY PUMPKINS.

And standing with his minion it's The Great Pumpkin Impact miniatures 'Pumpkinheaded General' These guys where so much fun to paint, and I do regret not being able to get more, but funds where not in it for me. Maybe in the future they will show up again.

    Jack (Bonesylvanian Chibi)

This is the first Bonesylvanian chibi I have painted since receiving my order last week. I even used some of the paints that shipped with him. I submit to the Reaper members JACK critiques and comments are very welcome.
  20. I always do a Christmas adventure with my D&D group. This year was a "Nightmare before Christmas" theme, last year was 'Scrooge". Of course this years "Christmas" game was played in January or February =P. I plan on adding flock and static grass to these. All the minis are from Reaper, all the pumpkins I made out of Sculpey. The objective was to prevent the Pumpkin King and his minions from getting Santa into the Pumpkin Portal. Of course when my group got there they almost decided to kill Santa for loot. Anyway the Blue face pumpkin would slow any enemies within so many squares and the Green faced pumpkin would blow back any enemies within so many squares, the Yellow topped pumpkins would explode when enemies got close, and the Green pumpkins were toxic, poisoning any enemies nearby. (Enemies = players). The Pumpkin King can summon 3 Pumpkin minions out of the Pumpkin Portal, and only 3 minions can be up at a time. The pumpkin portal is immune to magic or magic effects, but not melee. Moving a single pumpkin out of line ruins the portal. I tried to cut n paste my monster templates I created here. Pumpkins Level 2 Traps XP: 150 per Hit Points: 10 DEFENSES: Armor Class AC: 5 Fort/Reflex/Will: 5 Special Skills: Immune: Disease, poison Resist: Necrotic 10 Vulnerable: Radiant 5 Explosive Pumpkin Explodes for 4d6 fire damage within 1 square. Slowing Pumpkin Slows all within 2 squares. Blowing Pumpkin Blows enemies back 4 squares, if within 3 squares. Poison Pumpkin 5 poison damage per round, unless save vs. Fort. Pumpkin Minion Level 3 Lurker XP: 200 Hit Points:30 (Bloodied 15) Movement Speed: 4 DEFENSES: Initiative Bonus: +6 Armor Class AC:18 Perception +6 Fort: 15 Special Skills: Ref: 14 Darkvision Will: 16 Immune: Disease, poison Resist: Necrotic 10 Vulnerable: Radiant 5 Pumpkin portal: 3 Minions can be at the game at a time, if any of the pumpkins that make up the ring are moved or damaged the portal is destroyed. The pumpkin portal is immune to magic. Attacks: Claw +6 vs. AC, 1d8+3 damage Jack the Pumpkin King Level 9 Brute XP: 1000 Hit Points:200 (Bloodied 100) Movement Speed: 6 DEFENSES: Initiative Bonus: +9 Armor Class AC: 24 Perception +8 Fort: 23 Special Skills: Ref: 19 Darkvision Will: 18 Immune: Disease, poison Resist: Necrotic 10 Vulnerable: Radiant 5 Attacks: Throw Pumpkin +10 vs. AC (Choose one of the special pumpkins from above.) Throw Body part +10 vs. AC, 2d8+6 damage, and rotting, ongoing 5 disease (sv) and (-2) to Fort Scythe attack Close burst (All adjacent targets) +12 vs AC, 2d10+6 Devour Minion Sacrifice minion, gain that many hitpoints

    Happy Howl-oween!

Mornin', everyone. Got a bit inspired to slap some paint together. The pics are a little bleached out, sorry about that. The model is tiny. I wanted to do it as a black wolf pup (the halloween theme and all), but once I finished drybrushing and Dullcote-ing it, it came out more gray than anything... Hope you like! --LSH
