  1. Hi folks, My very first snow base! I haven't attempted Non-Metallic Metal on a shield like this before and I'm happy with how it's turned out :) Thanks, Mocha

Volturnos! King of the Sea Elves.

Presenting Volturnos, a character from the Idoneth (or Sea Elf) faction in the Warhammer:- Age of Sigmar game by Games Workshop. Not my best work, I struggled in quite a few places (particularly with the fish) so a lot of it has ended up being painted rather basically, even by my standards. But I did get it finished, so I'll count this as a partial victory. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

King of the Sea Elves WIP

I wasn't planning on ever doing any more Work In Progress threads (The number of threads I've abandoned outnumber my finished threads by a pretty ridiculous amount at this point), but I'm trying to get back into the habit of painting every day and my brain is being a real jerk about it (he'd be a lot happier if I gave up on this whole painting nonsense and just stared mindlessly at a screen all day). So the idea is if I post an update a day, regardless of how much progress I've made, I'll shame myself into making sure I've done enough for a worthwhile update or something. Day 1 (Which was yesterday):- The King and his Seahorse have been undercoated, washed and I've started on the base, I got part way through applying the pumice paste before I realised I couldn't get to the middle without getting it all over the Seahorses tail/tentacles/tail-acles? Today I want to try and finish the base, and maybe start on the Seahorse.

    Bones Female Fighters

A couple more of my recent tabletop paints. Female on the left in gold and red came out of Bones 4. She is in a leaning pose. The one on the right is Deladrin, female assassin, roughly painted as a catfolk rogue. Both figures were done with a traditional basecoat, drybrush and wash/ink technique. I did some NMM for the swords.
  5. This old Games Workshop mini is from about 1986. I think I had gotten him in a pack of minis because I have several others from the same line. I think I bought the pack mainly for this guy. He was my favorite, and I painted him solid black with silver trim. This time, I went with copper colored armor. A long time ago I wasn’t down with the big snake on his head so I chopped it off. I used paperclip and some contour putty to resculpt it here. The shield glued on to a round knob on his fist. Trying to figure out how to incorporate that unconcealable circle on the shield, I went with a simple eye motif. Please let me know regarding the flaming sword. I made the flame with hot glue. I think flames are brightest/hottest at the base and fade to black smoke at the top. I’m not sure how well this paint job imitates Fire, so comments on how to improve would be greatly appreciated.

    Rawhide Dame

Presenting the Rawhide Dame, she's a pin-up from Kingdom Death. Not some of my best work, I made a bit of a mess painting her skin, but overall I don't think she's too bad. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    Goblins - 77444 & 77445

I haven't posted for a bit but I have been painting. I have been painting mostly for D&D but some just because they are fun models. Luckily, the two cross over quite a bit so I get to paint fun models for D&D! I painted up these little goblins. I have the other 6 waiting to be painted. For these, I decided little greenskins. They are so cute!
  8. Presenting Cypher, a character from Games Workshops Warhammer 40k range. My version is a mysterious and legendary Space Knight recognisable from the giant sword he carries but never uses, while he normally lives a hermit-like existence on the various, isolated outer worlds, he will occasionally pledge his services to a quest or expedition in exchange for transport off world. Really surprised I got this one finished, he's been on my desk well past the point where I normally get fed up of looking at things, and he's not a mini I'm that interested in (I basically really like his sword scabbard). That he turned out okay too is just a bonus. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    The Flower Knight

"During the opening stages of the Great War, it was quickly discovered that the human mind was too fragile for soldiers to spend any time in areas that had been heavily corrupted by Void Space. One of the solutions to this problem was to lift the restrictions on deploying Automaton Troopers to the front-lines. Drawing power from naturally occurring energy fields and equipped with self repair and competent AI systems, they could theoretically operate indefinitely without contact with their human creators. However, despite being deployed in large numbers, in the end they did little to halt the advance of the Void. Centuries later, many can still be found and most pose a threat to the humans they once served. This particular model, now known as a Flower Knight due to the flora it spontaneously generates around itself, is not openly hostile to anyone it comes across but will not tolerate any damage to the gardens they both create and guard." Presenting the Flower Knight from Kingdom Death. This is another one from the Cupboard of Unfinished ThingsTM that's been waiting for me to bring it back to the table for a final painting session or two. It's not a patch on the many, many other Flower Knights out there on the Inter-webs, but I'm really pleased with it. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    The Visarch WIP

Yet another new mini, this time it's The Visarch, a mysterious Elfin knight. I wasn't actually planning on starting him yet, but made a nice dark red mix for something else that I thought would look great on the inside of his cape:- It's 1:1 Scarlett Red/Black > Black Wash > 1:1 Scarlett Red/Black > 1:1 Scarlett Red/Black with a brushtipful of Ochre Yellow. Since this guy jumped the queue it could be a while before anything else happens to him.

    Frost Giant King: 77591

I somehow forgot to post this guy when I finished him last year. I painted him shortly after I finished his queenly counterpart. I had some issues with the ice on the base so it didn't turn out exactly as I hoped but it's ok. Painting these big guys is sure a whole different experience to painting the "normal" sized minis.

    Veteran Decimate

Presenting Veteran Decimate, a minor noblewoman turned sword for hire, who was originally a member of Guild Balls mercenary Union team (I haven't painted this version yet), however plot related shenanigans caused her to move to the Brewers Guild team resulting in this new 'Veteran' version. Really happy with this one, there's a few things I could do better (her bracers, straps and glove blend together too much), but I think overall it turned out pretty good. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    The Hookah

Presenting The Hookah, once one of many labourers working Howard Carters archaeological dig, he gave up his name when he joined the Cult of Set. He is also part of the Egyptian faction for the game Twisted. Another mini where I wish I could've done a better job on his face, but this one had the double difficulties of not only being rather small and finely detailed but also obscured by his cultist hat. I think the rest of the mini makes up for that though, so I'm pretty pleased with him. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  14. Presenting Mara Frostraven the Anti-Paladin, with Succubus Shield and Ice Sword. Not quite sure why she seems to be shrinking in the pictures. Wished I could've done a bit more with her face, it just seemed so small though! As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    DSM8077, Ella the Cat Rogue

Good day everyone, here is my latest work on Dark Sword Miniatures, Critter Kingdoms - Anthropomorphic Animals, the crafty DSM8077, Ella the Cat Rogue. This three-piece model was sculpted by Dave Summers. I glued its right arm and left hand before painting the wholly assembled model.
  16. I was using this to try a different skin color which I like and I believe I was going to do a bit more detailed TMM but got side tracked. After several months of no work on him, I decided to get him "done" to tabletop level. Here are some shaky iPad photos. C&C welcome.

    10-512, Orc 2

Good day everyone, here is the second Orc model from Ral Partha's 10-512 Monsters Boxed Set produced in 1992. It's a 25mm tall metal "lead" miniature that was sculpted by Jeff Wilhelm and I painted it with acrylics and ink. I have the Roman crest helmet on this model. I painted the crest in orange, as if it had been made with the red hair of a dwarf. There is also an eye engraved on the front of the helmet, symbol of Gruumsh. Tribute to Tolkien...

    77469 Brand Oathblood WIP

Ok I don't do that many WIPs but I thought I'd try on this one. This is so far a base coat and 6 layers of shading. I like to use glazes so the build up is very gradual and I have to remember that everytime I start a mini lol. I will put down about 10 more layers going down all the way to a deep purple. This is at the pure tanned skin shadow phase. It will be slow going due to work but I will keep up with it. Comments and criticism welcome and before it gets mentioned I removed no mold lines this is more of a proof of concept to see if I can finish a wip post and how my skin painting is coming along. Thanks!

    Imperious Swordswoman

This bones mini came attached to a rectangular base, like a coffin-top. The base was larger than a standard grid, so I chopped it off and stuck the mini on this base instead. I figured it would give her a fun windswept look, like she was glaring down at the battlefield from a height. :-) The TMM globbed in a strange way on this mini that wasn't obvious to the naked eye. I'm wondering if some of this is glare...? Next problem: the base made her too tall to fit into my miniature storage...

    07001, Rictus the Undying

Here's 07001, Rictus the Undying from Reaper's Dungeon Dwellers Special Edition Figures sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I'm curently running "The Vanishing Blackguard" adventure so get ready to see a load of painted models in the next couple of weeks. Sir Rictur is the main evil character in "The Vanishing Blackguard" adventure for 4-6 characters of levels 3-5 by Joseph C. Wolf. Check out the free Vanishing Blackguard.pdf adventure on Reaper's website.

    Torg, Orc Stalker 14602

The weather is basically perfect, so I have been outside painting and writing D&D adventures while enjoying the sunshine! I got this bad dude finished a little bit ago and I am pretty proud of how he turned out. I will probably go back and touch a few things up later on, but right now I would appreciate any critiques and advice. Thanks in advance!
  25. Thread title pretty much sums it up. This is Callus the Renegade from Black Orc’s Hundred Kingdoms, sculpted by Jason Wiebe: There is is a lot going on here, from chain, scale, and plate to all the spangly bits and Things on Belts. Tried to add some variety of color where possible. Not sure what actual colors were worn by Roman soldiers, but red is popular among cosplayers according to Google. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t purple at least. Turns out Dark Elf Skin is a pretty good approximation of actual gorilla flesh. It also seems that brown is not a popular color for actual gorilla fur, but whatever. I was unsure just what that thing in his left hand is, so I imagined it as some sort of monkey-headed scepter, and painted it up in Dragon Copper and Antique Gold. Mostly as an excuse to try out some GW verdigris. I probably miffed the placement, but it’s a neat effect. Very much a “nasty old penny” look. Did I mention this guy is big? Here he is alongside Miss Forscale the Strumpet: Comments and critiques appreciated!
