  1. Hack Mini Painter

    Brood Lord (input requested)

Hi Gang, Normally I would ask my brother for input, but we are each painting the same mini and not revealing them to each other until we're done. I'm curious mostly about the claws, color choice and potentially doing a purple tint. Thoughts? Any other comments or areas that people think need work feel free to chime in. Parts that are not yet completed are most of the "vent" things on the arms and legs so ignore that, and the skulls at the base need work too, and the stuff in his hands, and some of the hand and elbow skin transitions... to name but a few. Thanks in advance, HMP

    Space Hulk

Here are some Space Hulk miniatures. I posted this as my January painting goal. Woot! I made it. I will be runnning Space Hulk at Rapiercon (http://www.rapiercon.com/) next month and wanted the figs to be painted. To be honest, though, this is not the complete set. I wanted two squads of terminators to be easy to tell apart, so two different colors were used. The figs in the box are very specific to the Blood Angels (red) chapter, so I used some other figs to represent the Ultramarines (blue). There are still 7 terminators left to call the box done, but it is good enough for what I have planned. https://goo.gl/photos/51NRopffdm9mvUwM8

    Space Hulk Board

Here is what I've been working on since the end of June. It's the Hirstarts Corridor set (Space Hulk). Got the first game on it today, as well (a loss to my step son). https://goo.gl/photos/LZkoeDSVBAUPzXBL7
  4. As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. This month I am clearing some space on the shelf, and doing some horribly horrid horrors. Starting off with the rest of the Space Hulk Genestealers that have been standing about needing some TLC for a while. I have been thinking alot about basing them, as many of them simply are not stable enough on their integral scenic base. But seeing as the integral bases are all rectangular and many are built up, the 25mm round bases Genestealers use in 40k do not fit, and I did not want to use 40mm bases, as that would make them difficult to conga-line up in the game, so I have not done anything about them. Then a few weeks ago I came across some oval laser cut wooden bases by Warbases, and after some testing I decided to base them with those. I had to use three different sizes to accommodate the diverse minis. In game I have to stand the minis sideways to fit them on the boards when they are in a conga line, but I usually have to do that anyway, so I don't mind that at all. I painted the bases simple black and finished them with the same black flock I use on my Dreadball minis, as I simply could not be arsed to detail the bases any more then they already are. I think it works. I have also rebased all the previously finished Genestealers, now they are all done!
  5. Continuing my March resolutionary challenge, I am doing something about squads, teams or units. As in squads I have started (i.e. done a test piece) but not completed. I seem to have rather a lot of them cluttering up the shelving. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. This week has seen little time for hobby, so I “cheated†by doing groups that were extra super fast to finish. Ten more of the Space Hulk Genestealers, in the same style as in my earler post That makes 12 finished. I think there are 10 left to go. And then the Terminators which probably will take much much longer. So much detail! Integral bases, hard polystyrene plastic (HIPS)
  6. Continuing on with the Febuary challenge goals I set myself, (painting at least one of each from the following categories: Reaper Bones, Oathsworn, All Quiet of the Martian Front, Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40.000, Kings of War, Deadzone, DreadBall, Mars Attacks, Shadows of Brimstone, Sedition Wars, Drake, Grendel Productions something or other, and to finish something that currently stands around half-done on the shelf of shame), I have done a few minis over the weekend, As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. Here goes for Warhammer 40.000: oh yes, obvious reference to the Genestealer’s true inspiration there… A Space Hulk Tyranid Genestealer. Yes I am fudging a bit by calling this a Warhammer 40.000 mini, as it actually it is from the boardgame Space Hulk. But it is perfectly good for 40k as well, so there. This is an extremely speedy speedpaint, A bit sloppy, but that can be rectified by spending just a little more time. all in all, this is really quick to do: black undercoat, brown drybrush, grey drybrush details, two tone grey claws, teeth and stripes on head. Gloss varnish on head and claws. Base drybrushed steel, then reddish brown and washed with darktone ink. Done. Effectively maybe 4-5 minutes painting time. 15 Including waiting for the gloss varnish and ink to dry It should be perfectly possible to have the whole load of 22 Genestealers done in a couple of hours. We will test that assumption, maybe for next months resolution (I am thinking aliong the lines "finishing some squads that have been started")

    Squad Gideon

Well, I posted up my squad Lorenzo as I painted them up. But when I finished off Squad Gideon, they didn't get photographed right away. So, here they are. I had a bit of a block going into this set, as I wanted to have something subtle show the difference between the two squads, without making them look like they were from a different chapter. In the end I chose to make all of the jewels a different color (Lorenzo's squad has blue jewels, rather than the green ones here). Also, I updated my Librarian Calistarius. I had originally painted him with metallic metals, and without dark lining. Last thing I did on the set was paint him in Non metallic metals to match the rest of the Space Hulk set.
