    Halcyon 1/8 Scale Judge Dredd

Been working on this guy for a while now and I'm going to call him done now since I have to ship him out. Old Halcyon vinyl kit of Judge Dredd. First one of these I've finished. Primered with Badger Stynylrez paints and all the flesh is Stynylrez. Green is all Reaper colors. Gold is Scale 75 shades and I'm not really a fan. Took about 4-5 coats to get smooth coverage. I really miss the old Polly S metallics! Nothing since has come close for coverage and grain. Base is Stynylrez grey, over sprayed with Polly S Concrete, cracks are all colored pencils. Gold for the base was Vallejo Metal Color Gold which airbrushed great (I'll have to try brushing it on at some point). Gold was washed with Liquitex Burnt Umber artists paints, which was also flicked on the base to create stains. Grunge and color variations on the base were created with various Secret Weapon pigments. I needed to push the highlights on the green up a bit, but my lighting here isn't doing me any favors either. WIP thread can be found here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/85931-halcyon-18-scale-judge-dredd/

    Critter Kingdom figures

It all started with a D&D group forming. That's when I started up the painting minis in June. And having trouble finding figures that we felt represented our characters, I opted to have some fun and use some anthropomorphic Dark Sword critters. Plus, I admit I was a little scared of doing human faces on my first go. What they represent in our game, from left to right - A Half Elf warlock, a Goliath warrior, an Elf swashbuckler, and a Dragonkin cleric of Talos. And the badger's weapon is a conversion because the original mace head broke off and my friend's character carried a glaive. I bought one of the Reaper weapon packs and used a piece from that for the conversion. I also got a surprise and found that I had already bought the badger a long time ago, so I had two! So I painted both up and call them "The Brothers". I love their furry cloaks.
  3. These are a couple of the animal companion sets that I painted for one of my players (minus the spider which I have not finished yet). I didn't want to paint the cat like a plain panther and I decided to use an ocelot as inspiration. My favorite is the little wolverine guy even though the photos make the river rocks look like pastel M&M's lol. My usual background got ruined so I have to make do until I get a new one printed or buy a fancy one. The bear looks better in hand and I used blacks and browns in his fur so he doesn't look so flat as he does in the photos. I am not happy with the fake snow and how it turned out. It looked really good when I put it on but not so good once the glue dried. I guess next time I will try baking soda and see how that works out. These are for gaming though so baking soda wouldn't have been the best choice probably. Anyway, here they are! C&C welcome.
  4. Today, I have a bit of time. Not enough to really paint, but enough to do something that may be useful to me AND to other forum-ites. A week or so ago I bought those Badger Freak Flex translucent paints. I already had a bunch (but not all of) the Reaper Clear paints, and a few liquitex acrylic artist inks. I'm going to do a comparison on some paper. I think straight up, and then below 1:1 with matte medium In all I think it's about 20 colours, and I'll try to keep stuff clearly defined by brand and color. I suppose doing this over something like newsprint would be better, but I don't have any handy. Hopefully I'll be posting results later. If not, in the next few days. I'll update later with a full list of the colors I'm using, but in the meantime, if you have requests/suggestions within reason... please post them below.

    Mushroom, MUSHROOM!

Here is one of my favorite sets of minis, of all time. They're the Fungal Growth Spawn point for Super Dungeon Explore, and I based the color schemes on the various colors of mushroom monsters from the Dragon Quest series.

    Burrows and Badgers Wardband

I'd ordered some of the Burrows and Badgers minis from the first Kickstarter and have another group coming from their second Kickstarter, so it seemed about time to actually get some paint on these guys! The final shot with the whole warband together includes the rabbit rogue I sculpted. I had taken an individual photo of her, but the photo didn't turn out as well and since it involved me sculpting, I guess I'll post it in my sculpting journal at some point. Anyway, hope you enjoy them and C&C are always welcome!

    Animal Group (wip)

I got the Reaper Bones Animal Companion set (sku 77216)... and decided to paint them all at the same time. All I've done so far is put on the base coat, and the color layer. I did a little shading, but haven't done any highlights yet. Nor have I painted the bases (at all). Any thoughts or advice before I highlight them and do their bases?

    Paint question

I was doing more unpacking/sorting of my hobby stuff last night (I have too much) and was going through my paints. My father passed away several years ago, and I inherited all of his old hobby paints and stuff. Among all the other brands, I have about 20-25 bottles of something called Badger Accu-flex. I know that Badger makes air brushes, but know nothing about this paint; the logical guess would be that it's air brush paint. Is it specially formulated for airbrushing, I.E. already thinned to the proper consistency? What's the deal with this stuff? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. BUGLIPS,BUGLIPS,BUGLIPS, I summon thee!
  9. I'm just wondering because my FLGS has a couple of sets of transparent tints. A 12 color set and a 16 color set. I thought they were badger originally, but apparently they are not. I realize they'd probably be designed for airbrush, but I'm wondering how they'd be used as brush on with medium, for example. Might they function like inks or reaper clears? I'd also like to know from anyone who's used them how they feel about the results, and please post links/pics if you have any. Thank you. edit: This is what I'm talking about.
  10. Finished this guy up today, a really nice sculpt full of character and a real joy to paint. Also finished this little guy up too, he is from one of the animal companion sets...looks like he could give you a nasty nip!

    Badger Paint Mixer

Does anyone have the Badger paint mixer/stirrer? Can it fit in an MSP Bottle? I was also think of making a custom stirrer to mount in my Dremel. Thoughts?
