  3. I must admit that from all the Bones 4 core set minis, the Chibis were the ones voted "most likely to stay in their bags" when the KS shipment arrived, as superderformed/ chibi models like these are not really my cup of tea. They are way out of my comfort zone to paint, with all that skin, hair and large surfaces needing somewhat smooth transitions that I am not really any good at. But they have grown on me somewhat, especially since I decided to do them even more cartoony in style than I usually do. Themselves being very cartoony and all. They do look much smoother IRL when not magnified as in the photos. #121 Galladon: from the Smallworld Heroes Chibi subset in the Bones 4 Core set: #121 Galladon from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (?) 4. This was the last mini I finished painting in 2019, I finished it around 10 pm on New Years Eve. This is also my first Chibi, I painted her very close to the box art, but I didnt quite get the right shade of light blue, and her hair is more golden rather than pink in the art. Still happy with her.

  6. #119: Monique or to give her full name Monique DeNoir. I don't think she has been made in Bones. There is a 54mm scaled one in metal that has approximately the same pose. I believe she is supposed to be a vampire. I painted her as a drow. ...and all in gloriously sharp pictures! Yay! #117 Almaran #119 Monique from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (?) 7. #117: Almaran or to give his full name Almaran the Gold, Paladin. The normally scaled one was in Bones 1, but I have not painted it yet. Funny that, I seem to have not painted most of the PC character types from the earlier Bones KSs. I wonder why. ...and all in gloriously sharp pictures! 8. The second of the superdeformed Chibi hero minis from the Bones 4 core set that I have painted, here comes Arnise the Elf Barbarian. Kissed by fire. I have no idea if she actually is meant to be a barbarian or not. Getting that much skin smooth is not an easy task, especially not by drybrushing. ...oh damn I forgot the freckles! Same height, different scale. B4Core#118 Arnise from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I think!) 9. I got the chance to paint up some miniatures for a project to bring the Modest Medusa webcomic into the minaitures world. These were all sculpted by Brian Phelps, and I think every one of them sculpts is super cute. I'm going to get to do some more of them for backers, since the project is pretty nicely overfunded. Anyway, here are all of the very cute Medusa minis I painted for them.
  10. A bit of a departure for me today. Chibi, a style formerly known as Superdeformed before Anime became popular in the western hemisphere. I am not particularily fond of Chibi; that superdeformed cutesy manga look that has insidiously permeated the pop culture of today. Sigh. What is the world coming to? Now they also have infiltrated my beloved Bones... During the Bones 4 kickstarter campaign, they offered chibi versions of some of their existing minis as free additions to the core set as social stretch goals, adding them one by one as their target numbers for facebooks shares, retweets, tagging pictures or other interactions on social medias were met. The full six chibi miniatures did end up In the Bones 4 core set. As I am sworn to do the entire Bones 4 core set, I am honour bound to paint them all eventually...gah! So...I painted the chibi Sophie for starters. Sophie the succubus is the Reaper Mascot of more than 20 years, and versions of her have beed used for promotions and to mark special occasions since way back when. She has had figures in every Bones kickstarter. In Bones 4 she had this chibi and also a normally scaled mini. I went for the classic red devil look, with the opaque but shiny black eyes that I find most fitting for devils and their ilk. Is it cheating to do the eyes in gloss black? ARRGH! A giant-headed devil woman! She must be put to the sword! B4Core#120 Sophie from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I stand corrected by Mr Bob Ridolfi, Sculptor Extraordinaire himself :) Thank you, Bob!) 11. ... The larch? Heh. No, but I want to try something very different from my preferred style in order to branch out and try new things. I recently watched Coco (um... several times) and took a liking to the alebrijes, especially Pepita. I really want Reaper to make a Pepita. So this is my way of showing how fun it could be! The plan: A chibi lion with patterns like the traditional Oaxacan Alebrijes. This means fun bright colors and an attempt at making a piece look like wooden folk art. It can be done! First step, research. ...and my personal favorite: Perfect! I wanted to practice red anyway. I ended up choosing red shadow, dragon red, big top red, seoni scarlet, volcanic orange, marigold yellow and sun yellow as my colors. Second step is to pick a mini. I supported Impact's kickstarter quite awhile ago and almost forgot I had this fellow. It's the Venetian Lion. I set forth in an effort to prep the mini. Um... it took a lot of prep. I decided to go ahead and attach one wing at the risk of making the body harder to paint. I sanded for about half a day then filled in all the bubbles and sculpted one set of claws. Er, I'm hoping their QC has improved since the kickstarter, because this piece took almost a day to prep. Oddly, I think the 3D print went into the mold un-sanded and with texture, because the large surfaces had a texturing I associate with those prints. It took several layers of sealer to smooth. But, I finally got him primed. Isn't he cute! Next, I basecoated with red shadow. why red shadow, you ask? Because red is awful at coverage because of its translucency. So, basecoat with a red brown. This will save you frustration down the road. Next, layer with dragon red. Leave a few areas of the red shadow as deepest shadows. Here's where I had to decided to commit to the wooden/statue route, because a real lion would have a darker back and a pale belly, whereas a figure in top-down light would be the opposite. Still not red? Never fear! Also, put a lot of layers of each step. Lots and lots of layers. Next step big top red. Next, seoni scarlet. I like this color. It's super intense. Very shiny. Except it's matte, but you know what I mean. Boom! Now we're in the red zone. Now, I need eyes. A miniature is lifeless until we add eyes. I like doing them early because they often help guide the rest of the project. I basecoated the eyes with marigold yellow. Then shaded the edges with volcanic orange. Then I added some sun yellow to the center. Even a chibi eye can afford some shading, otherwise the socket looks too flat. After that, I drew in the iris shape. I used red shadow and added a pupil of nightshade purple. When I was happy with the shape and balance, I filled in the eye with some terra nova tundra and more of the yellows. Excellent! I also mixed a bit of linen white into the yellow just at the edge of the iris ring. Here's a front view: Last step in eyes if adding the white reflection. I used pure white for contrast. So he's sort of a demonic cute lion. It could work, right? Then I wanted to try out wing patterns. For the last 3 days I've been wanting to get to the fun part, so I forged ahead and rushed to this step. As it turns out, that was an error, but it worked out in the end. I think. Ok, the key to freehand is breaking down a pattern into something simple. I started with circles. Filled in the circles and added some teardrop lines. added some more lines. and on and on... Until I felt like I was getting closer to pattern. It was then I realized the wing looked way to flat and dull. I needed more shading. What I should have done was make the feather lighter near the origin to add more contrast. So I glazed over the pattern. I'll just have to pick it back up again after I'm done with the shading. Here's the wing with the shading. I'll touch it up a bunch, then rework the pattern. But I think I like it better with the change in contrast. We'll see. I can always paint over it. Sigh. That will teach me to skip to the fun stuff. More later! As always, feel free to ask questions!

They're cute, they're rowdy, they are the siblings of conflict! STRETCH GOALS We're planning amazing, unique hero characters, and more! Surprises await! New Stretch Goals will appear as the campaign advances! Chibi miniatures! Chibis are adorable characters that have lately have made a splash in the boardgaming and miniature community with games such as Super Dungeon Explore, Arcadia Quest, Ninja All-Stars and many others. They're also featured in collectible figurines and in other geeky paraphernalia. This is the NINTH Chibi KickStarter run by Impact! Miniatures and Impact! is partnering with Märchen to bring you some incredible, new Siblings of Conflict chibi miniatures along with sci-fi allies & enemies for them to combat! The funding goal will pay for the sculpting & 3-D printing of the miniatures. The Miniatures ALL miniatures in this KickStarter are provided unpainted. Unless otherwise stated after the name of the miniature, all miniatures offered with this KickStarter will be high quality 3-D prints done on a top end 25 to 50 micron printer (you should not see print lines after priming and paint). As stretch goals are reached we will unlock additional sculpts. The miniatures will require light clean up, being primed before painted and might need some assembly (although we will do our best to keep the figures with as few pieces as possible). You can use your reward dollars to get any of the miniatures in the listing above. Miniature Quality While many of the miniatures in this KickStarter will be 3-D printed, the quality will be a very high level since they are 25 to 50 micron 3-D SLA prints which are very different than ABS prints. Below is an extreme close -up example of a printed figure and how it shows no print lines when primed and painted (with no other prep work). Many thanks to Yeji Kim for her painting of Vanguard Leader Anna (top row) and Jason Turner for the painting of Vanguard Leader Anna and Vanguard Trooper #3 (bottom row)! Shipping Shipping will be charged in the pledge manager after the project. At this time we are estimating $5 for US backers, $13 for Canada and $17 for Rest of World. Shipping of the KickStarter will be EU Friendly and should not incur any customs fees.

  15. Drawing inspiration from an old blog post I read somewhere, two of my friends and I bought the Bones 4 core set and Dreadmere, setting up a draft and taking turns picking our favorite models. Here are the four Small World Heroes that I ended up with: Galladon: Sophie: Almaran: Lysette: All together:
  16. Monstro, via @Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/minibossstudios/monstro Don't know anything about this. I see a lot of renders at the moment. But cute chibi monsters. ^.^

  19. Got this out of Impact Miniatures last Kickstarter. The master was 3D printed, and then it was produced via spincast resin. Pretty much zero clean-up, although they use a pretty persistent mold release agent. I washed it with Dawn and scrubbed it pretty well. Primed it with Badger Stylynresin and had a bunch of areas where it flaked off with the slightest touch. Gave it another thorough bath & scrub and re-primed with Badger and this time it got a grip. Base coat and initial highlights are Tamiya paints applied via airbrush. Highlights and details are Reaper and Vallejo. Then tried out some Secret Weapon and Mig pigments. There's a spot near the back where you can tell it was a printed master because after i applied a wash it picked out the striations. After highlights you can't really see it. Some of the details lose crispness where parts merge i.e. the banding around the gas tanks isn't as sharply defined where it curves down in the back to meet the hull. All in all it's a pretty nice piece! First Chibi I've ever painted, and while I got inspiration from Odin's Chibi's for the eyes, I need a lot more practice to get them anywhere as nice as his!
  20. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2004599158/chibi-litch-and-evil-minions?ref=discovery About The whole set. Hi, my name is Andrew May. I am a full time sculptor in the wargaming industry. Over the years I've sculpted many, many chibi style figures for RPG games and the like. My own range "Tooth and Sword" (Meridian Miniatures) consists mainly of cheerful animal adventures which got me thing that I should sculpt an evil villain to support the existing zombie figures that I sculpted a while back to pitch them against, and so emerged the evil Litch! Chibi Litch (original sculpt). This figure is the most ambitious chibi figure that I have sculpted to date, requiring carefull planning and no small amount of clay! He fits well with other "28mm" figures, standing around 35mm to the top of his horns. Evil Minions (resin casts). To bolster his power I am raising funds to re mould these wicked accomplices, The Rat Warlock and the Microshoggoth! Chibi Zombies Lastly the funds raised will supply new moulds for the cutest walking dead that you've ever battled!
  21. Here's MidKnight Heroes' Damien. I painted him in the color scheme of the Dark Palladin artwork, so that he could find a place in Chibi Kingdom Death. I realized while I was painting him that I'm going to need to pick up a few more of him for conversions. He really does seem like a good starting place for several concepts I have going.
  22. So I posted these sketches for new sculpt ideas to my social medias and got some good feedback. Everyone seemed to be a big fan of the Raccoon and since he was one of my favorites from the pack also, I decided to sculpt him! I didn't have my phone with me to get pics of the initial wire frame and GS layer but I went over that with some Fimo clay and baked an underlying structure now and I'll start layering my Primo on top of that.
  23. I think I've collected every tool I might need right now to paint miniatures. I've got brushes. I've got paint. I've got a wet palette. I've got paint. I've got superglue and a little drill and all sorts of medium. I've got more paint than I probably need. And I've got a nice place to hole up and paint. But I haven't actually been painting. So, time for a goal! Happily, I've got something to use as a goal - earlier in January I got a kickstarter copy of Masmorra, and this month I should be receiving the Kickstarter rewards for Arcadia Quest: Inferno. Lots of grey plastic to paint, and it's all Chibi - cartoonish. I'm thinking it'll be easy to paint, and more fun than just mussing over zombies. And the practice will get me ready to paint the various Reaper Bones figures littering my storage boxes. To start with, I'm going to paint this merry band, the five characters from the Masmorra base set. That's Valerie, Jay, Algus, Greybark and Mika, by the way. Here's a shot of them from the kickstarter, in color: Very energetic! So, I decided to start with the wizard, Algus. He's a pretty simple look, on the whole, and was pretty easy to paint. I'm not entirely sure I've got the eyes right... Let's see if I remember this right... For the dark purple I tried the Imperial Purple first (9023), but it was a smidge too dark. So I tried two parts 9023 with Amethyst Purple (9024), which I liked better. The light purple is Amethyst Purple. The hair is Rainy Grey, and the brown is a Leather Brown. The white spots are Linen white, and the yellow (applied without much skill) is Lemon Yellow. I did the gem by using some silvery paint first, then some clear purple paint on top. I'm pretty happy with him, so I'm trying out some Gloss Medium & Varnish by Liquitex on his back to see how it dries. Back when I started getting into painting, the local fine art supply store was having a big sale for it's 125th anniversary, and so I got a bunch of Liquitex mediums and other supplies on sale. Fun! Next up, Valerie.
