  1. What is Secret Sophie, you ask? Well, it's a lot like Secret Santa, with a more attractive (albeit more dangerous) delivery person! (For those not in the know, Sophie the Succubus is Reaper's mascot.) This is the time of year for Reaper forumites to give a little holiday cheer to each other. Unlike previous years, this year will only be a miniature and gift exchange. No gift only this time. Signups will run from October 10th until midnight (PST) October 30th, with the assignments going out by the end of November 6th. If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me (SGHawkins09) with the questionnaire below filled out by the deadline. The organizer (SGHawkins09) then matches you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP. You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out. This exchange is based on trust. Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you. I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one. The Rules (tl;dr version) Gifts should be primarily new, Reaper-branded presents. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. You must post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 31st. The deadline to mail your items is January 31st. Full Rules Decide if you would like to participate in this exchange. Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. "Gifts" could be Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies. Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. You could also include food, small gifts, and other holiday related items. Fill out all of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. You will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by December 1st. Basically, if I do not hear anything from you once the assignments go out, you will be dropped, and your recipient will be reassigned.. I really do not want to do this but there have been too many instances in the past of radio silence once assignments go out. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 31st. The mini should be at least base-coated by this time. If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to drop you from the exchange. Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. Please post in this thread once you have received your miniature from your partner. We all love seeing what everyone did and it serves as an acknowledgement that you received it. In the past some people have wanted to send food - please verify allergens, etc. with your partner before proceeding. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved. We don't want any trouble with customs. As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. The organizers (SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Once you have submitted your questionnaire, please make sure to routinely check your messages on the forum as that is the primary mode of communication for this exchange. Other than sending you your assignment message, I may contact you if your painter has any questions, if they provide a tracking number, and just to check in if you have not posted any progress or have not messaged saying you have shipped your items or if you have not shared that you have received your package. Have fun! Deadlines The deadline for acknowledging your assignment is December 1st. The deadline for a WIP photo is December 31st. The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 31st, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. 3. Welcome to the 2021 Summer Miniature Exchange! This is the thread where I'll post announcements, and you can post questions, let people know that packages have be mailed or received, or just talk, get suggestions, and show off the awesome mini that your partner sent you. If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out (please don't just send an old one, as the questions may have changed). I then match you with a person whom you will paint a mini for, and a second person whom you will receive a painted mini from (sometimes it's the same person). You have until the deadline to send your mini out (please try really hard to do this, though we understand if sometime life gets in the way). That's pretty much it, feel free to PM me with questions. This exchange is based on trust and is open to painters of all skill levels. Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money, and energy into painting a mini for you. I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one. The Rules (tl;dr version) Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM by end of day, May 30th. Painters must acknowledge their assignment message and/or post or message me that they have selected their miniature by June 20th. Painters must post a WIP of their mini by August 1st. Paint your partner a mini and mail it to them by September 30th. Full Rules Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire. Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. Also send it in a new PM, do not use a previous exchange PM as I delete them after each exchange is done. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. You will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by June 20th. Basically, if I do not hear anything from you once the assignments go out, you will be dropped, and your recipient will be reassigned. We all love seeing what everyone did and it serves as an acknowledgement that you received it. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved. We don't want any trouble with customs. As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. Also, only the purchase price of the figure should be listed under "value" on the customs form. No extra value should be added for your paint job, etc. the purpose of the package should be "gift". Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. There is no hard and fast rule but keeping the value less than the price of a single miniature is a good rule of thumb. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. The organizer (SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun! Deadline The deadline to mail out miniatures for this exchange will be a little over 3 months from when assignments are sent out, on September 30th. Assignments Deadline I will try to send out the assignments by June 7th. Please let me know if you're interested by end of day, May 30th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant I am running this by myself so please can contact me if you have any questions or issues. 2021 Summer Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Information- Name: Address: -Miniature Information: Outbound- What can you paint? Assignments Deadline I will try to send out the assignments by June 15th. Please let me know if you're interested by end of day, June 12th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant I am running this by myself so please can contact me if you have any questions or issues. 2020 Summer Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Information- Name: Address: -Miniature Information: Outbound- What can you paint? Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don't know. -Special Requests- For the organizer, your painter, or your recipient:
  5. UPDATE 10/19: We are doing two rounds of sign ups. The assignments for the first round were sent out on 10/18. Any questionnaires received after that date will be part of the second round. The deadline for the second round will be 11/13. Updates to the rules due to this change are in green. Yes, it seems too early to start this but with how this year has gone I thought to give you guys as much time as I could. Also this will give you a slight chance to utilize Reaper's October specials and/or any specials they do next month. Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange. Round 1: Signups will run from October 4th to October 16th, with the assignments going out by end of day October 19th. Sign ups for Round 2 will run from October 19th to end of day November 13th, with assignments going out by end of day November 16th. Exchanging painted miniatures is optional. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 29th. The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 21st. The deadline for painters is January 31st. Full Rules Decide whether you are doing gift and miniature exchange or gift-only exchange. "Gifts" are Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies. Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. The miniature exchange is where you paint a Reaper miniature for someone and mail it to them. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. Fill out all the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. You will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by November 13th. Basically, if I do not hear anything from you once the assignments go out, you will be dropped, and your recipient will be reassigned as part of Round 2. I really do not want to do this but there have been too many instances in the past of radio silence once assignments go out. Round 2 participants will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by November 30th. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 29th. The mini should be at least base-coated by this time. If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to demote you to gift-only or drop you from the exchange. Have fun! Deadline The deadline for acknowledging your assignment is November 13th for Round 1 and November 30th for Round 2. The deadline for mailing gifts is December 21st. This is for the gift only participants, painters can send the gifts separate and earlier than the painted figure but it is not required. The deadline for a WIP photo is December 29th. The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 31st, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas. Assignments Deadline Round 1 assignments have been sent. The organizer will send the assignments for Round 2 by end of day November 16th. Please let me know if you're interested by end of day, November 13th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant It is just me (SGHawkins09) this time so be patient if you send me a message or post a question, I will get back to you as soon as I can. 7. So, I'm working on a miniature for my Box of Many Things exchange partner, more commonly known as a "Thinger" among those long time participants. This happens on the Twitters and you can search for it by sticking one those hashtag/pound sign/number sign thingies in front of BoxofManyThings in the search thingy there. Basically, it is like a Secret Santa type thing for geeks and nerds that happens every couple months. Sign ups for the next one should start near the end of October, if you are interested. Anywho, my "Thinger" is interested in, among other things, Medusas. So, since I'm kind of not up to much due to a severe lack of AC at my place, I've decided to try to distract myself from the fact I am alternating between melting and immolating at this time by making a custom mini and painting it. Also, attempt to chronicle it too. GF
  8. My exchange partner this year was Fealron and one of the ideas suggested was a new enemy or villain to throw against his players. I had this guy on hand and wondered if a giant werewolf would fit the bill: 14030: Vasyl, Rageclaw Alpha While I was painting that I came across these guys and they just begged to be henchmen: The one in the middle I believe is an old Grenadier, the others are clix. Meanwhile, back at the ranch I did a little digging and discovered that Fealron has a set of DwarvenForge, so I felt compelled to paint these as a gift. It's all molded from Hirst Arts molds (except the barrel mimic). I hope they provide hours of fun play.
  9. Any interest in a new round of trading cards? What is an artist trading card (ATC)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x 3.5". Most swaps are open to any media, materials or techniques as long as the card fits into a standard trading card sleeve. http://www.tinteddy.com/introduction-to-atcs-what-are-artist-trading-cards/ If I can get 6 or more people I will set up a round of 1-1 trades for forum members. Post here or PM me if you'd like to participate. I am thinking of an Oct 1 start date and Dec 1 due (in the mail) date.
  10. My partner this time around was Clearman. He requested a heroic character painted heroically, and nothing says heroic quite like the word "Hellknight." Of course, I haven't actually played the adventure(s) that Pathfinder Hellknights appear in so maybe they are cuddly people. We'll say she just finished up a heroic day of undead slaying. Metals are TMM, which my camera hates, but I think I managed to get a few decent shots. For something different I painted the base using pigments rather than hobby paints. I used the wet method of applying them and the color shift is huge, so I wasn't sure how they would come out until they dried. Of course you can be intentionally sloppy because any pigments on the mini's boots just help "tie the figure to its base." I freehanded some wood grain onto the shaft of the weapon just to add some interest to the boring space.
  11. Welcome to the 2018 Spring Miniature Exchange! This exchange is based on trust. Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you. I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one. The Rules (tl;dr version) Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must send the organizers a WIP of their mini by April 1st. Deadline The deadline to mail out miniatures for this exchange will be three months from when assignments are sent out, on May 15th. You must post a WIP image of your mini by April 1st. Assignments Deadline The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (February 15th). Please let me know if you're interested by the 10th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant robinh will be helping me run this exchange. He will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants. You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues. 2018 Spring Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Information- Name: Address: -Miniature Information: Outbound- What can you paint? 12. well, he finally made it out of the house! My exchange is officially in the mail. My exchange partner had asked for something futuristic and something either goofy or scary, so of course I went with ludicrous. What do you give the giant demonic poisonous spider that has it all? high tech lasers and missile launchers! I have been building and painting some of my eldar pieces and decided that they could use a mascot. As for things I haven't done in a while. I have started to play with decals again as a way of adding some interest to my larger grav tanks and space ships so I thought I would add a few here for fun. The weapons pack is removable if my partner wants to use him as a basic giant spider (actually I got a few complaints from the arachnid union when we discussed permanent attachment...) there are to pointy pins that attach the weapons pack to the back of the spider (bones material does have its uses. So here is the Mark I demonic assault spider. I hope everyone enjoys him!
  13. I'm back after a short break - Welcome everyone, to the 2017 Secret Sophie thread! Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange. Signups will run from October 5th to October 15, with the assignments going out by the 19th (so those who are going to ReaperCon can have a shopping list). If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out. The organizers (fanguad, robinh) then match you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP. You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out. That's pretty much it, feel free to ask questions in this thread, or PM them to me. Exchanging painted miniatures is optional. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must send the organizers a WIP of their mini by December 1st. The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 15th. The deadline for painters is January 15th. Fill out the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini to either this thread, or as a reply to your organizer, by December 1st. The mini should be at least base-coated by this time. If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to demote you to gift-only or drop you from the exchange. Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. If you want to participate but acquiring Reaper minis is a problem, please contact me first. The organizers (fanguad, robinh) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun! Deadline The deadline for mailing gifts is December 15th. The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 15th, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas. Assignments Deadline The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (October 18th). Please let me know if you're interested by the 15th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant robinh will be helping me run this exchange. 14. So, I got SGHawkins for my Secret Sophie. She said she would be starting Curse of Strahd soon, so I made Strahd... Happy Vampire is Happy! Also, i did a couple "Spell Effects" like this Dancing Magma Sword! And a pair of the new WizKids unpainted minis. I chose the Dragonborn female Fighters set because Dragonborn are hard to find equivilents for outside the official minis and I wanted to try out painting a few of them for future referance. I really like the effect I made with the first's Fire Sword. The mini's Fire sword is made from clear plastic so I used Tamiya Clear "Paint" to shade it and a little bit of Sword steel paint to make it look like the sword is on fire but that it still is metal underneeth. The second Dragonborn was a challenge from SGHawkins to "Try something new" so, I tried Non-Metalic Metal! I used the Copper/Bronze triad from the Bones 3 Kickstarter to attempt it. It came out okay I think, but I can do better in the future. Also, had fun with the Fire and Ice Axes. SGHawkins, please post pictures of the items I included too. i did not get to take any pictures of the gifts as I was ill until yesterday evening. GF
  15. The Mini I received tonight was from my Secret Sophie painting partner for 2017 JAY. The subject matter was a surprise to me and I must say he is very cute! Although based on his facial expression he does not appreciate being called cute! Jay has delivered me an excellent bit of cheer to me this night, whose space suit matches the frigid weather we have been having! It could have been made from ice! I present 8004 Mousling Space Commander on his ship defending it from space pirates/cats?? (Notice the focus on that face ... this is what i get for calling him cute) and a better view of those shoulder emblems you may have noticed (or maybe not) he is facing two different directions on the stand ... That's because he came off in transit.. must have been some rough hyper space jumps! Much appreciated Jay and He is my first SPACE MARINE!
  16. So, I'm a part of a Bi-Monthly Twitter Secret Santa'like Exchange called #BoxofManyThings! I'm doing Miniatures for both of the organizers of it and this is one of them. The individual in question goes by the Handle, owlbare on twitter and uses a Purple Owlbear as his Avatar. So I chose to do up a Cute little Owlbear for him in his signature Colors. These are actually his photos since I forgot to take any! Anywho, hope you enjoy:) GF
  17. Artist Trading Cards Some of us are playing around creating hand-made Artist Trading Cards and swapping them via the mail. ATCs are hand drawn or painted cards using markers, pencil, chalk, ink etc, on standard playing card sized pieces of paper (or other materials sufficiently flat enough to fit into a card-sleeve). Technical details: Finished size is: 2.5" x 3.5" (64 mm × 89 mm) — this is the size of a standard playing card. This thread is for showing off the cards created for this exchange. Rules for this thread: The recipient should be the first one to see each card. Please post an image of the card only after the recipient has confirmed they have seen it. Senders, recipients, or both are encouraged to post pix of the cards. _________________ Participants in the first round: DogBL, Sirithiliel, Tarsemina, Morihalda, TGP, Pingo, Inarah, & Tarsemina Participants in the second round: Pcktlnt, Jay, djizomdjinn, Morihalda, TGP, Pcklnt, Inarah
  18. This was painted as my gift to @Talae for the Summer Exchange 2017. The criteria of interest was steampunk or water, with a demonstration of NMM. The Automaton fit the NMM criteria well, and is mostly steampunk, so I ran with in. The orange parts are supposed to be copper. This is the first time I've tried a NMM copper and used a Scale75 NMM set. Thoughts? Comments and Critiques welcome.
  19. Got my base coats on and a top glaze on the back..
  20. Welcome to the 2017 Spring Miniature Exchange! This exchange is based on trust. Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you. 21. Finally remembered to post these up. I got minibart's name for the Spring Exchange. I'd been hoping to get him since he sent me an awesome fig last year. He was looking for something Victorian and/or Steampunk. I went through a number of idea about what I wanted to do, wasted far too much time on elaborate plans, and finally settled on a slightly simpler plan, and still managed to be late sending it..... With the Lord and Dame I wanted to tie them together with some cross over of colour. Hopefully that was somewhat successful. The Lord came out fiarly well, I though. I'm not sure if what I was trying with the hat came across as well as it could of. I was really happy with the vest, though it may not show up well in the picture. I used Ruby Red to highlight Gothic Crimson, which gave it a nice satiny shine. Apparently all my shots of his back are blurry, and he's on a different continent now. But dark grey coat of light grey pants, not too exciting anyway. The Dame is a lovely figure and a joy to paint. I had a great time painting her, other that realizing that I'm missing at least one paint in each green triad I wanted to use.... And whenever I paint anything that could be considered Steampunk-y I love to throw in a West Wind Infernium Hound.
  22. This is the mini that I painted for Fanguad for the Spring Exchange. Got it out late due to life interfering and had to be satisfied with a more simple paint job then originally planned. Please excuse the photo quality, I had no time to get everything out to take proper ones.
  23. This is the model I received from @hiddenone32 as part of the Spring 2017 Exchange. Here's some better pics that don;t include my grubby mitts Great piece. Great paint job. Thanks.
  24. Figure we might as well open this Fall 2015 Exchange Chatter thread so we don't start chattering in the official thread. Anyhow, those of you looking at this thread that haven't joined in previous Exchanges should give it a shot. It's only 1 painted figure and you have 2 months to get it done and sent out to your random partner that Fan or myself assign you. Really, they are a lot of fun! Commence chatter!
