  1. Recently I painted a Crypt Lord and in the Show Off there was an introduction. See and read it here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/87523-asar-crypt-lord-by-glitterwolf/ @Gadgetman! commented that he wanted to see the goat. So here it is, it's from the Animal Companion Set sculpted by @TaleSpinner Reaper Sku 03719. I love your animal sculpts Andrew, they are a real pleasure to paint! Omar's son, Mehmet herded the goats but his mind was elsewhere, one of the goats wandered off without him noticing it. Our adventurous animal took off and found herself walking between the ancient ruins of a long dead civilization. When it entered a dark building it got scared and it bleated loudly, the sound echoed through the empty halls. Alarmed by the noise General Ahm Me Hula the Second rose from his Sarcophagus, ENEMIES!!! RAIDERS!!! He needed to protect the Pharaoh! He rose from his slumber and quickly grabbed his weapons. Time to once again defend the realm! He alarmed his men and all over the place skeleton and mummy warriors rose from their eternal sleep. The Pharaoh himself needed to be warned! Giving the order to a Liche Priest he himself walked out to investigate how many raiders there were in the ruins. The first enemy he encountered was Omar who was looking for his goat. And so it came to pass that our dear little goat was responsible for the awakening of the Tomb Lords. Their armies are now gathering and the living must once again fear their wrath! Critter Kingdom figures

It all started with a D&D group forming. That's when I started up the painting minis in June. And having trouble finding figures that we felt represented our characters, I opted to have some fun and use some anthropomorphic Dark Sword critters. Plus, I admit I was a little scared of doing human faces on my first go. What they represent in our game, from left to right - A Half Elf warlock, a Goliath warrior, an Elf swashbuckler, and a Dragonkin cleric of Talos. And the badger's weapon is a conversion because the original mace head broke off and my friend's character carried a glaive. I bought one of the Reaper weapon packs and used a piece from that for the conversion. I also got a surprise and found that I had already bought the badger a long time ago, so I had two! So I painted both up and call them "The Brothers". I love their furry cloaks.

Animal companions: cow, pig, goat 03719

Finished these three from my first wip post so I'm milking them for another post here in show off. I'd love to hear your thoughts. First as a group: cow: Side a (frontish?) B-side Pig goat close up of goat face b-side group shot Thanks for looking! WIP can be found here:
  4. Painted up these larger goat warrior fellows. Thanks for reading!
  5. A bit belated on posting these, painted for the Resolutionary Painting Challenge. Used real goat fur color for inspiration.

    On the farm (03719)

For my first ever WIP I thought I'd go for something simple. Reaper's animal companion pack of goat, pig, and cow. Got these half price at my FLGS a little while back. They must have sat in their package a long while before I rescued them. The cow's tail seems especially fragile and the goat' integrated base was quite warped. i decided to base the cow on a large 2" base but the pig and goat would not fit nicely on a 1" base so I used two bones integrated bases that I had removed the figures from a while ago. Here they are primed and glued to their bases: Next I had to fill the gaps in their bases a bit so I mixed some tacky glue, brown craft paint, and a dash from my jar of leftover mixed sand and flock. This got spread around to simulate mud/dirt. It was a thinner mixture than I've used before so I'm worried it won't stay as it dries. I still managed to put a base coat of Elf Flesh on the pig as well as a mix of the same elf flesh with my brown craft paint to get the cow started. Here is where they stand so far tonight. (Sorry for the poor picture but I was not about to move these while so wet to my photo area!) Part of the point of this WIP is to showcase my mistakes and corrections so that others can learn from them, but please feel free to give critiques and suggestions as well, for I have much to learn. Now to search out some inspiration pictures (was I supposed to do that first?)

    CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!

Break out the goat barbecue! I'm a Braves fan but to finally see the Cubbies win after 108 years is pretty awesome.

    77253: Beastman Warrior 2

Another one from my band of anthropomorphic warriors. Seeing this guy makes me want to paint a bunch of them for a horror themed game set in the woods at Halloween.

    O Scale Farm Animals

These are some plastic animals by Model Power intended for O scale railroads ("Model Power" No. 6171, "36 Unpainted Animals, O-027 Scale"). They are a little large and a little crudely modeled, but until Reaper came out with its new animal companions they were what I had. These cows are painted up as Ancient White Parks, a heritage breed from Britain that dates to the thirteenth century. The goat is another heritage breed, but I don't remember which. The sheep is a sheep. Here they are for scale with a not-quite-finished Reaper 60079: Lyrie Akenja. As you can see, O scale is a little bit large for 28mm.
  10. I decided to take a break from the tedium of building the booths for the farmers market & renaissance fair board...so I started working on the live stock pens. This is a standoff piece to/from the large fair board...it is a (10" x 10") little gem built on ceiling tile (as you can see). What you see is 3 days of scale detail work. All the tools (two man saw, axe, shovel, hoe, 3 prong hay fork)...the barrels & wooden box...mushrooms...are all scratchbuilt! The 3 pigs are (Airfix)...the 2 white geese are (Airfix)...the large grey goose is (Mega)...The ground cover is my own mix. (FUTURE NOTE)...The privy will be another standoff piece to/from the large fair board and will be about the same size. SPECIAL NOTE...I want to wish all my fantasy miniature painter friends and RPG players and the staff of this website a safe and festive Memorial Day holiday and to all of you veterans out there...Thank you!
