  1. My child received a set of board books one Christmas and once the box was open it served no purpose to anyone but me. I rescued it to turn into a "fancy display box." I will tape up the edges of the acetate, then cover all the non-sky surfaces- on the inside and outside - with paint. What I need now is help choosing a/ some colour/s. Dreadmere gulper for scale (approx 5x6x10.5). Please post colour combo suggestions though I'll probably do a pale blue on the inside sides. Help me decide.
  2. I have been painting these as long as the others, but have lots of photo cropping. Currently painting the sacrificial victim from the Islanders set of Children of the Field... it was separate from the rest of my minis from that kickstarter. And also a (n unofficial) time lord companion for a variety of "normal" female minis. Pics later
  3. I decided to work on the Chtulhu Chronoscope sailor minis for my lighthouse. I might need to get a few more ship's hands.
  4. This pulpy fellow was nearby when I grabbed a few minis to paint.an early pic snuck in with my Crooked Dice minis. Here's an update. I was reusing colours , so he has a fancy shiny pants.
  5. My wife asked if I wanted a leftover tube from a bolt of fabric. It's much thicker than paper towel - at least standard foamcore - and at 32 inches, would give me enough for a 12 inch lighthouse and 4 5 inch towers.
  6. So I salvaged this bit of 16×20 particle board from a broken picture frame. I'll be using some of my foam core to make a city square/crossroads board with my foam rollers. Something for city games that isn't too time consuming, but is also good for a wide spread of genres with the proper buildings and scatter The tough part will be steaming off the paper and cutting down the various bits for rolling.
  7. And so it begins... floorplans and foamcore. I couldnt find the post where I originally shared the link to floorplans, but a quick Google search turned up a version with BASEMENT! Now it all makes sense. I'll be doing a variation of the horizontal (top) layout with added stacks in the basement (and smaller lecture room). This will be the setting for my Gemma Files diorama. I will be doing fancy paper "wallpaper" on the inside. Stained popsicle sticks wood floors on the main, and concrete on the basement (tile bathrooms) with carpet in the staff and lecture rooms. I intend for it to be playable, with separate floors (and roof). I'm debating FANCY openable windows. Brownstone, with tar roof and stone trim. I went with the built in size constraints of the folding presentation board on purpose.
  8. I got my caverns terrain, and... Wow! Cave Cliff Pack, Natural Bridge, stairway to violence, stone banks pack, and webbed lair adventure pack. Apparently a tote is still coming? And I already got texture patches. Things are currently getting scrubbed.
  9. I am painting up Reaper's townsfolk jock chick and nerd set for gaming. "Chick" first due to request. Hair and shoes basecoat Shoe colour is spectral glow and peacock green 1:1
  10. A request for more modern female minis, Dr Helen Salinger first, because I found her first. I will be painting her as Cosima from Orphan Black. Mostly base coats today, though I did a bit more on the coat. Legs are rubbing off so I may need to re prime. Skin was a weird mix of new copper, sun yellow and heavy _(I forget the Vallejo name) skin.
  11. I received a request for more modern female minis who weren't just pulp, so I pulled these. Did one before I realized I was correct in hating assembly. I'm not sure how reasonable it is to expect people to glue pieces so small I could fit at least 10 on my pinkie fingernail. A lot of cuts that really didnt seem very necessary. No cleanup yet, most of the bits were too small to clean up before gluing.
  12. So I'm finally getting to the terrain for my graveyard set. I've washed the crypt and the fences. I got an extra set of fences, and I think I'm missing 1 short fence, because I have 5 of those, and everything else is even in number (doubled). Can anyone else who got both during Bones 3 confirm if they had 5 or 6? Here's stuff having a soak. Somewhere I have my Bones 4 toppers, but I'm not going to worry about that right now. I'm debating putting stuff on large tongue depressors and making stuff modular... though that would leave some gaps if I make a fence around something specific, as opposed to a representative "fence." Anybody try it and abandon?
  13. I got this fake bonsai at a dollar store for a couple of dollars. Pulled it out of the small vase with rock and styrofoam, trimmed the trunk that was below "ground" and then stuck it on a yogurt lid. I put paper towel down for some texture and modgepodged it with brown and various greens. I still intend to flock it a bit. I may also stick it on a cd (hence the waiting to flock). But for now it's playable. I never took process pics. Oops. Maybe more to come. MSP bottle for rough scale (about 3"high by 6" span).
  14. Blightfang in the Meadow - inspired by the children's book "A Lion In The Meadow." See the WIP here. A VERY brief altered retelling And now for the mini (Blightfang chases its tail): And some close ups to show the details and the flock (first time and I'm pretty proud of the results).
  15. This is a really early placeholder, because I have inspiration pictures, and who knows if the book will be lost when I'm ready. I need to find my dragon. I'm also inspired by (I think it was @Corporea 's chibi coco lion?) Would love any tips for preparation and how to deal with scales with my chosen pattern (paisley).
  16. I decided to do some basecoats on my bonus vulture. He is party turkey vulture (red neck, and the whichbparts of the wings are light and dark, and part other vulture-the white collar). Dusky skin shadow 3: dusky skin 2 for most of the dark colors. Dusky skin highlight for the lights. Cinnamon red for neck and claws. Wings were drybrushed with ds highlight and then had another coat of base mix applied they to leave the definition from drybrush. Light parts of wing were lined with brown liner, then touched up with ds highlight. Tombstone is somber grey.
  17. Thanks to this thread I finally figured out how to assemble this mini. If you are at all hesitant, please look at it, especially the excellent step by step on page 2 (h/t @Mad Jack). Things have been scrubbed, and I have some idea of the color scheme. Dusky skin triad and maroon red/cinnamon red for the skin, and hexed lichen/witchcraft purple/warlord purple for the tabard. Not sure about the metal yet.
  18. So. I decided to try and make some ponds... Maybe with other water features. I have 2 silicone mats and several hot glue guns. I used both and used a fondant roller to flatten things out. I'm going to try a few things. This is about 1-1.5in x 2+in
  19. So I've painted up a couple of sample pieces of my 4bot tiles and to try out an ice recipe. I thought I'd get some feedback. It seems a bit too sea glass for me. Phtalo green (yellow ink) +medium, then drybrush of teal, turquoise, pale blue, and adding white. Also included a pic of previous recipe using turquoise ink and pale blue, then white drybrush. And materials Thoughts?
  20. This is the thread where I'll paint my Dreadmere stuff to go with new Bones V stuff when it arrives. I started with my extra Gulper ( 44038 ) and rowboat (Dreadmere Fishing Boat 44032 ). starting with Gulper inspiration - the redtail catfish.
  21. Bonesylvanian and Mr & Mrs Bones and vulture. Pics to be added later.
  22. I decided to do the shark too. I'll post to where I've completed but still lots to do. So much that I've given up on my whale shark plans. This is photographing way better than it looks in person. Then I did turquoise ink on the clear plastic and ashen blue and vgc glacier blue and turquoise ink wash on shark. Then I started working in rubber /highlight and teal ink and spectral glow for the whale shark markings. Now I've added a bit more rubber on the top
  23. WIP Quick paint spread throughout the day.
  24. I had a bad day and decided to do some painting in between the terrain stuff. I did quick red /brown/blue liner primer coats at 920 and put stuff aside. Then did another 15-20 minutes ruddy leather on belts and boots, intense brown and oiled leather on coat, creamy ivory on shirt, red shadow and carnage red lightened with Ivory and medium. Corporea black for pants.
