  1. So I have started prepping this baby for painting: And I am disappointed with the quality, the mold lines are sooo bad, and the vents are right in the middle of details, and some places the vents were cut in such a way that adjacent details were lost. Just a few of the many pieces, black knife for scale. Nasty mold line, with my first pass at it Vents in detail, there were worse ones that I already mostly fixed on another piece: For as much as this thing cost, even at Kickstarter pricing, I guess I expected
  2. HIIIII ...! So, someone opened a FLGS someplace where I don't have to fight my way through stupid to get to it, and they have space and interest in hosting painting days! YUS! All I need is some more interested people and some dates/times when they can come down and paint. My schedule is generally flexible. Weekends alternate (this is a 'free' weekend. Next, I expect to be gaming. And so on). South Hill Games is the intended gathering point. They have a Bookface presence, but their real website isn't up yet (.. and I'm not sure I am allowed to link it when it
  3. Has the Glorious Leader of WOOF lost his mind? Maybe... Accepted this challenge: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/76666-the-seers-and-a-wizard-present-a-random-rainbow-dragon-challenge/& My Victim Dragon. EBONWRATH ( Hm! 666 KB Pic, a sign!!!) ROLLING THE DICE STAR 3 CHALLENGE. Star 3*** You may decide to do both the Star 1 and Star 2 challenges, using absolutely nothing but your three rolled colors, plus black and white for shading. You gotta be nuts! Main Colour - Marine
  4. Yah, I buckled. Lookit my arm, it's /all/ bent outta shape.. *cough* Right then! So, there's a dragon in pieces on my desk. I have chosen my challenge level (3 STARS!) and rolled my colours.. and gurgled, because my dice roller thinks it's funny. So! My primary colour is Lava Orange. My Secondary is Imperial Purple, and my miscellaneous colour is Cloudy Grey. Using Pure White and Pure Black for shading, and otherwise using /no other colours/, I will paint this dragon! ... no. Really. It'll be a nice change from all the !%[email protected] draconians....
  5. So. I tried painting some minis without WIPs and found myself having a hard time keeping track of what and how much I had done. So I'm back, although these may be sporadic and really slow to update. We'll see. Anyhow, after painting a lot of tiny figures for the January Bones Beauty Pageant, I decided to move in the opposite direction and tackle some of the big figures from Bones I to clear out room for Bones II. So I am painting dragons. Five of them, if you count the Frost Wyrm. Each one gets its own thread, though, since I don't know how I'm going to progress through them. First up is D
  6. Chicken every Sunday ... turkey on Thanksgiving ... wishing on a wishbone ... squabbling for the drumstick. If one or more of these isn't a part of your family tradition, you must have grown up somewhere else! -- from Betty Crocker's Cookbook, 1969 edition, distributed free w/purchase of a major appliance from Sears. Did you know that some of the wild turkeys the Pilgrims hunted for the first Thanksgiving were between fifty and sixty pounds? That amazed me when I read it; I didn't think North America had edible fowl that big south of Sesame Street. Even the domesticated kind you buy at th
  7. So, here's my plan. I'm going to start this WIP thread, so I can track my progress from "terribad" through to "less terribad" I've been painting a few months now, and I've come a fair distance from where I started. Already progressing from "ludicrous-bad" (which I like to call "Plaid") up through "ridiculous-bad" and into "terribad". All of my progress so far has been a little bit of brush control, and a lot of knowledge that I've gleaned from the internet - thinning paints, washing, dry-brushing, and just recently attempting some layering. And I think with a lot of practice, and
