    I've been sculpting more ducks...

Hi, I'm a sculptor from New Zealand. I am mostly known for my dungeon delvers. Especially of the duck variety.
  2. Second background, in progress. Started with tape to control swelling and rolling. First coat was brushed (1.5" cheap brush from hobby store) with a mix of gesso, water, and Patio Paint Fiesta Yellow (probably a dab of khaki to dull the tone too). After a day or two to dry I used a chunk of construction sponge to cover the paper with a mix of water, pva glue, a drop of dish soap (helps with rings at this consistency, or so I believe), and Ceramcoat Raw Sienna (possibly some Apple Barrel Nutmeg too for redness). Swiped the whole thing for coverage, then blotted, dragged, and blew as it dried a bit to achieve the variation in texture you see. This one is going great, I must say. The first one I did didn't look like the image in my mind until about 7 steps in, and never quite looked right. Question, comments, critiques welcome!
  3. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84371-2019-rpchallenge-questionsannouncements/ All the information you need should be here. As usual, the new format holds a "hard mode" challenge! March and April 2019 Challenge Your challenge is: 9! Bonus Challenge: The First! March 8th is the birthday of Ralph H. Baer, often called the "father of video games." To tribute these early games - paint a character to resemble an early video game character (Think 16-bit era or sooner) the more obscure, the better! Addendum: It doesn't have to ONLY exist in that era. It doesn't matter if it's the only incarnation of it like Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure or Power Pete, or originated but is on 5183 of the series (looking at you, Final Fantasy.) but the spirit is to that era. Bonus Challenge: The Second! Bringing back the classic for April, the "Fools' Brigade!" Paint a mini in a patently absurd scheme! CAV with a bullseye on it...elf with an "I'm organic" tabbard, etc. The more outlandish the better! Hard Mode Challenge! Ides Of March Famously known as the date when Julies Caesar was assassinated, March 15. Make a small diorama (or large, whichever) of such an assassination about to, or having recently happened. Characters and environment. This will be counted as # of miniatures + 2 base and scenery.) As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!

    X-Wing Adventures

This is a continuation of a thread started in "More X-Wing Fun", covering stories for a start until some new pilots are trained. I gave out "The Force Awakens" to a few guys for Christmas and Birthdays in the hopes of expanding the player base. The group at the local game store seems to have vanished. So continuing... This is the Rebellion News Network (R.N.N.) Watchman reporting from somewhere in the Distal Reaches. We encountered a rather strange cosmic anomaly that has thrown us off course; no one seems to know our present whereabouts. The emergency transmitter has been broadcasting our location since we lost our course lock-on. It has been only forty-five minutes but we have been informed of a locating beacon that has started transmitting a positional fix to home in on. Evidently this is not a standard type beacon, not matching anything on the Galactic Navigational Charts… We are, finally, approaching an uncharted planetary body… We have been instructed to close all view ports before we land. I am placing a Remote Optical Pad on the port that should pass all but the closest detailed external inspection. I plan to activate a Randomized Signal Receiver just before touchdown, and possibly obtain some external video… So, a Military base of some sort: a Gozanti Cruiser taking off (?), and Y-wing bombers. Looks like about two squadrons of Kihraxz fighters landing. Here are two rows of Z-95s, which I am unable to determine how many are present. Looks like a standard type of base construction seen elsewhere. Hmmm, there is no visible activity of any kind currently, which I can pick out, inside the installation. Okay we are going down and swinging around just past the base. We have an interesting development, looks like I am picking up stray video signals close by from someone doing a visual scan of us. They seem to be interested in our weapons mounts. Sorry guys nothing new or special here, same-o, same-o. Could this be a dual function base? I see three Jumpmaster 5000s, an YT1300 and a HWK290. Also an air patrol of Protectorate Star fighters. Okay feed was terminated. I will complete the report when we liftoff. Watchman reporting, Good Day

    Reaper Chess

I'm interested in doing a chess set using Reaper Miniatures. Recommendations please.
  6. First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Alessio Cisbani, and I'm an Italian miniature sculptor and painter. With this project I want to create a series of metal miniatures inspired by the classic ones of the 90s that I collected and painted. These miniatures will fit with your favourite wargames and can be cool PC or NPC for your pen&paper roleplaying games. The path this project will take is like the exploration of a dungeon: as our heroes delve deeper, they will face menacing creatures like Gargoyles or treacherous cultists and enchanters, but they may also find unexpected allies... Moreover Randolf the Ogre (see below) could find bits of armor, and weapons of his size! My project is live and yet funded in few hours, I would be glad if you can take a look. Oak & Iron

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/firelockgames/oak-and-iron?ref=profile_starred “The enemy fleet brings its guns to bear as your captains await your command. Yet you hold your course even as fear threatens to test your mettle. You know the broadside you are poised to receive will be returned in kind, and with a single cunning maneuver your fleet will gain the weather gauge. The wooden behemoths creak and groan as the wind pushes them into position. With one sharp word the sky blackens with the smoke of canon fire. The battle begins!” Oak & Iron is a 1/600th scale naval game set in the age of piracy, imperial expansion, and above all - fighting sail. It allows players to recreate battles between squadrons and small fleets of armed sailing ships. The game is designed to be true to the theme and tactics of the period while supplying significant flavor for the various factions. Players of Oak & Iron can expect to find all the usual design hallmarks fans of Firelock Games have come to know and love: innovative rules, historical integrity, and beautiful models. The starting point for the game is the Oak & Iron: Core Box below. We have included everything that you will need to play right out of this box, including six starting factions and a large amount of customization options for your squadrons and individual ships. We have done our best to add as much stuff to the Core Box as we could, but larger orders with manufacturers means less cost. A savings which we in-turn pass on to our backers through stretch goals. With this Kickstarter, our hope is to add an even greater value to the Core Box over the course of this campaign and launch a game that we will support with new releases for years to come.
  9. Pretty certain at this point I fell off the wagon got ran over by it, then chased it down and set it on fire (given the drought of these - explanation is in the chatter thread) Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78657-resolutionary-painting-challenge-2018-chatterquestions/ All the information you need should be here. Due to the delay, there is going to be a normal and hard challenge for each month. Your challenge is: 13! October Bonus: This is Halloween! - Paint a mini using only colors that have black, orange, and purple in the name. You may also use "Fresh Blood" and "Spectral White" as they are part of the monthly promotion. Hard mode: Jack-o-lantern's light - Paint a mini where the only source of light would be coming from inside a jack-o-lantern. Pumpkin may be part of the mini/base or sculpted November Bonus: Festive feast - Since both US And Canada have their Thanksgiving in this time bracket - paint up a mini (figure or terrain) to have some food being presented Hard mode: Liquid Cheer - This can be done with the above - paint a mini where it's holding a drinking vessel - but paint it as though the mug were glass and you could see the drink inside from the sides (in theme - ale or wine is the best use) December Bonus: Winter Solstice - To celebrate the shortest day of the year - paint a halfling or dwarf decked in wintry colors (think blues/grays/whites, maybe brown and a little bit of evergreen) Hard Mode: Gift wrapped - paint a mini with any inorganic parts (metal, cloth, etc) being done to resemble giftwrap - little candy canes, trees, text, stripes, etc - bows optional Good luck The game is made up and the points don't matter
  10. [MOD]Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites. We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.[/MOD] As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge last year, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges. FAQ Reaper only? - No. If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes. Are speed paints acceptable - Yes. Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes. Based or unbased? - Yes. Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes. NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy (This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases) Medium and smaller = 1 ea Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota – rounded up Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures. If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually. Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little, to start painting more. You challenge begins...now! And Our Mantra: Participants: If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, you must post in the bi-monthly thread. The objective: To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota (each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list) What qualifies: Darn near anything! Reaper/non-reaper! Any material! Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten! Exchange minis! Speed paints! Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well) Any Size! Based/unbased! Etc! (I think that covers everything) Jan/Feb: 8: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78658-janfeb-rpchallenge/ March/April: 9: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79997-marchapril-rpchallenge/ May/June: 9 Oops. July/August: 9: Sept/Oct: 8: Nov/Dec: 9: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/82946-end-of-year-rpchallenge-oct-nov-dec/ Again, I request that when tagging your posts, please use "RPChallenge" to help with locating minis from this.
  11. Haven’t seen this one mentioned yet and it does seem a bit different for the zombie survival genre of miniatures games: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1519152481/z-war-one-exodus?ref=creator_nav - Theres a bit of a discount for those backing in the first 72 hours. I’ll admit I find this interesting. Like the ships and docks setting. Dice Sports also had a previous kickstarter for a different game, Damnation, that is set in the same world. I’m not familiar with the company or their previous game. If anyone here has had experience with either I’d like to hear what you think.

    Pirates of Treasure Island

Arr... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/656177818/pirates-of-treasure-island About DEAD MAN'S CHEST Squire Olsen, Dr. Edwards, and the rest of the EOE gentlemen having asked me to help promote the whole particulars about this Treasure Island Kickstarter, from the beginning to the end, keeping nothing back but the bearings of the Casting Room, and that, only because there is still castings not yet purchased, I take up my pen in the hope of being paid by John in the year of grace 2018, and go back to the time when John first presented his plan for this Kickstarter and the stained old Salesman with the sabre cut first took up his lodging in the EOE Office. I remember him looking over his desk and whistling to himself, then breaking out in that old Casting Room Pirate Song: “Fifteen men of a dead man's chest, Yo ho ho and a Pirate Kickstarter, Drink and the devil had done for the rest, Yo ho ho and a Pirate Kickstarter” The first 4 sets include all the named Characters from the book. THE TOUGHEST OLD SALTS The 5th Set includes the Characters in the book that were not named. I have taken the liberty of calling them The Toughest Old Salts. "We got together in a few days a company of the toughest old salts imaginable--not pretty to look at, but fellows, by their faces, of the most indomitable spirit.” THE BLACK SPOT DEAL "...But what is the Black Spot Deal, John?", I asked. "It's a Rare Deal, Mate. People keep their weather eye open for such deals, then buy them on their honor. People who is smart as paint is likely to lose their dead lights if they don't see how good this deal be. A collection of the finest Pirate's Pewter. 30 Dirty Scoundrels, Monkeys, Artillery, Barrels & Treasure Chests and even Captain Flint himself" Why are you talking like this John? "Yarrr, I dunno" he replied All miniatures 28mm scale and are cast in fine Pewter. Miniatures are supplied unpainted and a few require a little assembly. Risks and challenges The Major challenge is time Most of the design work has been done eliminating the lion's share of work needed for pre-production. We are working with Fortress Figures to do the Molding and initial casting. Jeff and Ben are highly decorated Veterans of the Kickstarter industry and have over a hundred successful Kickstarters under their belts! I am very confident that we will meet all deadlines in plenty of time.
  14. Assembly Required is a feature film about the world of gaming. On Kickstarter now http://kck.st/2La7UCY - 90% FUNDED Lifelong gamers and brothers Dore and Dante Harbridge Robinson have quit their jobs as VFX artists to bring to life a comedy feature film all about the world of gaming. By chance, years later they all meet in a field. Whilst Theo has honed his skills on the tabletop and become a master with a cardboard sword, his old friends have entered the very real underworld of crime. Genuinely impressed by his sword wielding abilities they want Theo involved in their latest heist! But what does Theo want? The movie is on Kickstarter Now, ending 15th July. Packed with rewards including exclusive miniatures and a one time opportunity to join the cast and act in a massive wargaming film! The film is being supported by Weta Workshop Lord of the Rings sculptor Gary Hunt, and the Nova Open.

(Yes I know a slime would be an easy candidate) Bonus Challenge the second: April Fools' Brigade - Paint a mini in a completely nonsensical paint scheme or other silliness. ex: CAV with a giant bullseye on it, Adventurer with a shield that says "I'm with tasty ->" or something similar. Bonus Challenge the Fiv Three, sir, three! Monty Python and the Holy Grail released 33 years ago in April - paint up a figure to resemble a character from the movie Good luck The game is made up and the points don't matter
  19. Hello, compatriots! I am a college student in desperate need of useful sources of information! I have taken upon the task of writing my final project in my composition class on the history of wargaming and tabletop miniatures. Painting miniatures is potentially my biggest hobby, and it seemed like an excellent topic for a paper. I need to do a 12-minute elevator pitch of my paper next Friday, and the paper itself must be 2,500 words and is due at the end of the semester (May 5th). The issue is, I'm having difficulty finding sources that I can cite. I'd go hunting for books, but I don't have a whole ton of time to wait for shipping. So, I've come to you folks. If there are any sources that you are aware of that will help me in my journey, please post them here. If there are important people I could potentially email and ask questions of, that would be cool, too. I already have some info with W. Britain beginning production of hollow lead toy soldiers and the publication of H.G. Welles' "Little Wars". I'd like to know more about when and how painting miniatures for wargames became a hobby of its own, major changes in the miniature manufacturing industry, key players, where we are today, etc.
  20. I'm kinda on time! Your challenge is: 8! Bonus Challenge: The First! Frostbite: Considering the sheer cold that's gripping most of us as of this posting: Paint a mini that looks like they've been outside in the winter a little too long - snow in the hair, icicles on shields, etc. Have fun with it Bonus Challenge: The Second! Our annual challenge returns. February Fingerpaint! This is pretty self explanatory. Hard Mode Challenge! Pending... Good luck The game is made up and the points don't matter

    Let's present ... Sáthach

Well, After a long time of having only posted WIPs and being not able to finish something, here is another Show Off. Actually she is already a bit older, but - a finished miniature is a finished miniatures ... I painted her as some kind of a test using some new washes and trying some techniques. Came out pretty decent, I think. The only mistake I made back then was to give her a coat of mat laquer in the end. That did some frosting (a problem that ruined the arcane spellmaster later on), but opposite to the other figures I lost using laquer, I somehow managed to save most of her. Well, one of her eyes is a bit blind and on some detail shots you can see the leftovers of the frosting. But nevertheless - I managed to try out some techniques regarding the skin and the clothes and it somehow makes me proud. P.S.: Yes - yes - the frosting on the base is intentional. A friend suggested that I should try a late autumn base with first pieces of snow and ice - like in "The house of flying daggers".
  23. Hi, I'm pleased to share this awesome kickstarter from Cryptozoic, The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary. It's based off the AMC series The Walking Dead. I apologize I should have posted this sooner, just been very busy. But there are still 5 days left to join, and I think it's totally worth it! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cze/the-walking-dead-no-sanctuary The game design looks intriguing, designed by brothers Adam and Brady Sadler. The figures are exceptional, very finely detailed and sculpted by Stephan. I was really impressed how well they came out. I was asked to paint some of the masters for Cryptozoic for their booths at San Diego Comic Con and Gen Con 2016. As a huge fan of the series both on AMC and in graphic novel incarnation, this is a really exciting project! Also check it out, this is so cool! The very talented actors Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Norman Reedus (Daryl), with two of the miniatures I painted! I believe they were gifted the ones with the larger clear bases. How totally awesome of them is that? I can die happy now :) https://twitter.com/cryptozoic/status/756988054590533632 I posted some photos I took of the miniatures I painted here: http://minicreatures.blogspot.com/ Come join an awesome kckstarter!

    Dark Fable: Sons of Anubis

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-sons-of-anubis-fantasy#/ Welcome to Dark Fable Miniature's Sons of Anubis Campaign. These dog-headed warriors are descended from Anubis, the canine guide and guardian of the Egyptian underworld. The Sons of Anubis are ferocious warriors sworn to protect the royal necropolis where the tombs of long dead pharaohs and queens can be found. On rare occasions the Sons of Anubis have been summoned by powerful lords or heroes to wreak vengeance on those who would offend the gods. Heavily armed and protected by sturdy shields and armour the Sons of Anubis make a formidable force on the battlefield. The Sons of Anubis campaign is the latest expansion of Dark Fable's pseudo-historical Egyptian range. The concept and design of the miniatures are a mix of history, archaeology, fantasy fiction and Hollywood films. The core group of miniatures consists of 7 sets: 5 sets of fearsome Anubis warriors sculpted by Kev Adams. A set of Scorpion warriors sculpted by Tim Prow. As well as a two-stage female genie made by Brother Vinni. There is also a stretch goal reward figure - The Scorpion Lord - who is FREE to all Level 5 contributors and higher when the campaign goal of £2000 is reached. If that were not enough we have made a large selection of our previously released miniatures available as ADD-ONs. These high-quality 28mm miniatures are made from a lead-free pewter alloy and have an incredible amount of detail and personality. Whether you are a collector or gamer you are certain to enjoy these figures! They had me at 'female genie made by Brother Vinni'...

Bonus Challenge: The Second! December 14th is National Bouillabaisse Day. For those unfamiliar, this is a Fish Stew from southern France. Paint a mini that incorporates a fish motif. Hard Mode Challenge! Under Wraps: Paint a mini so that anything that any armor-weapons-cloth-etc looks like it's patterned wrapping paper. This is assuming a humanoid figure. Dragons or such apply the same challenge to the whole body. Stop the presses! Bonus, The third!
