  1. So! This is my attempt at getting some fire lit under my behind and get to painting. I love miniature painting, been doing it... 15 years? Probably more if I count my Warhammer history. At some point I went from 'painting to game' to 'game to paint'. :) I have a lot of miniatures and a lot ambition. Unfortunately I also have a job that I love and I spend a lot of time with. When I do not though... I like to paint. I also like to GM, in the last years I have finished Serpent's Skull (Paizo AP), well at the time of writing the final session has been planned. I am also running Skull & Shackles, another Paizo AP. I have strongly modified book 6, which is where my PCs are at the moment. So that one is ending soon as well. Then I plan to take a break, maybe a year. Let some of the players run one-shots, a module, etc. Recharge the juices. :) Something that has been on my mind since it came out though was me wanting to run Wrath of the Righteous, a Paizo AP about a demon invasion/liberation thing. It is their mythic AP, basically a right good excuse to have the most epic demons, spellcasters, landscapes, etc. And of course, me being me, that gets in my head and I want to run it... Sure. But I want to run it fully painted and pretty. Not likely to happen, but I can try. I've been half-sassed trying to get stuff painted for... a while now. Ok years. I want to catalog the 'journey' a bit more. So I shall start a painting log specifically about the AP. So: Spoilers for the 'Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path' for Pathfinder from here on in. Complete spoilery expected! *** *** *** *** Alright then. I have already finished painting a bunch of minis for the campaign. I shall get to re-posting those pictures sometime soon. I wanna get my hands dirty a bit again first. So I am focussing on the models Reaper Miniatures made specifically for WotR. Right now I have Xanthir Vang, a worm that walks from book 3, and Aravashnial, an NPC from book 1 onward on my table. I am also painting another Reaper miniature as Horgus Gwerm, a wealthy merchant. The miniature is actually a, I think, limited miniature specifically for Pathfinder Society. A friend in PFS gave it to me, cause he knew I love minis. It is called Grandmaster Torch, and was a 2010 Paizocon exclusive. :) Instead of creating a thousand-and-one WIPs I am going to just throw it all in here. :) So to get things started. The three characters on my desk atm! Horgus Gwerm (rich merchant) Not available in the Reaper store :( Aravashnial (an elf caster) Available here: Aravashniel, Elf Wizard Xanthir Vang (Worm-that-walks) Available here: Xanthir Vang
  2. Hello everyone, I'm just presenting you my version of Rauthurus!
  3. Mcfoltzy

    Mimics

Had some fun with these 2 mimics cant wait to see them on the game table
  4. Really happy with how these guys turned out.
  5. With my Cadian army nearly finished and my wife's army at a playable state I decided to take a break from 40k painting. Since I've been painting for our actual armies for so long I decided to start a new WIP thread rather than use my old random projects thread (the "Too Many Projects" thread will be replaced by this one). But before getting too far ahead I'd like to show everyone just how bad my box got while painting for 40k and killteam. This of course doesn't include any GW boxes I may or may not have on hand to paint "just for fun". I swear I'll paint those Skaven sooner or later. Though some of the figures were closer to completion, I simply couldn't resist painting one I've had my eye on for months (I mean this quite literally as the figure sat on my lamp's base since I first got it and probably ended up in the background of many of my progress shots). When I first pulled this from a box of goodwill I knew exactly what I wanted to do. This figure just screamed Don Quixote, at least to me it did. So that's exactly how I painted it and though it may just be a simple paint job I'm already thinking about creating a new character just to use it.
  6. Ten of the 23 minis I’ve painted since my post in March. Monsters = tabletop Humanoids = above tabletop Sinisthreax (14634) is an ultra-complicated sculpt. He’s a noctiny (5e kobold press) recurring villain in my dnd game. You’ll note one eye is normal along with that side of his face. Silas (03010) the human cleric I wanted to dingy up with blood spatter. I imagine his name is Bret and he does not appreciate being called a heal-bot. The Dragonborn (Wizkids), half-orc (red box games) and deep gnome (Bones) are all new players in my dnd game which has grown from 3 players to 7 in rapid order. Narbaz is a tiefling from Red Box Games and I like the OSL I got from below, but not from the staff. I really just got sick of it and called it done.
  7. Been working on a new game for dungeon crawling, and have settled with predominantly Reaper miniatures for my personal use (and for use in game component imagery, etc.). Second post here, so apologies if I fumble the image stuff a few times.
  8. Here is a Vulture Demon that I have used my newest Iwata airbrush on. I am very pleased with how he came out. He is on a 50mm base and is made of metal from Reaper. I had to bent the wings into an interesting pose, but I like where this guy ended up. :)
  9. Presenting Amiri, she's an Iconic Barbarian from Reapers Pathfinder line. Had this one a little while, but all the fiddly bits kept putting me off (and I normally like fiddly minis), she turned out to be super fun to paint though. As always any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  10. I recently noticed I rarely get around to painting my Reaper minis, to remedy this I've decided 2020 will be the Year of Reaper. It takes me roughly 2 weeks to paint a mini, so I should be able to paint 6 a quarter and 24 over the whole year (I won't but I'm trying to be optimistic). I'm a bit early, but I've made a start to the 1st Quarter batch:- In the back row, you've got:- 03844 - Damaris Walmund, 44071 - Dark Elf Priestess, 03912 - Remus Raducan. And in front:- 60003 - Amiri, 44037 - Bergamot, 03971 - River Widows Gunner. I've started with the Dark Elf Priestess:- She lost an ear tip in the manufacturing process, so I cut the other one out too, de-elfing her. I had already decided on a super pale skin-tone (1:1 Rosy Skin/Ghost Grey > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Rosy Skin/Ghost Grey > 1:1:1 Rosy Skin/Ghost Grey/Light Flesh) which, together with her really sharp cheekbones, made her look rather vampirey. The look was completed with (1:1:1:1 Rosy Skin/Ghost Grey/Light Flesh/Blood Red) lips, (1:1:1:1 Rosy Skin/Ghost Grey/Light Flesh/Hexed Lichen) eye-shadow and Blood Red eyes. Next up, hair.
  11. Just to try and get some mojo going, I decided to start these guys too... Since I used to thrive on having multiple projects going at one time.... Derro Captain & Sorcerer and their troops, Derro Warriors (3) all Reaper minis Another group that has sat primed on the shelf of shame for a while... Reaper Linen White for eyes SC 75 Brown Grey for the skin... (I am stealing my old formula for skin that I used on my Reaper Duergar early days again, but stay tuned.... G
  12. Painted up these 8 unrelated barbarians as a clan for my Wrath of the Righteous campaign. Tried my hand at non-metallic metal again. This is the result. :)
  13. Here is the finished figure I painted up for my Secret Sophie.
  14. My friend got good pictures of this one. I did her as a fairly fast paint for a friend, as his character's mother Millicent Pillswallop (who they really should go check on in the next eight days... she got caught in an explosion in the city). I kinda went with a "Too lazy to blend, so cross-hatch and texture it instead!" idea on the cloth.
  15. Presenting Remus Raducan, part of the Blood Wolf faction in Reapers Dreadmere setting. Struggled to find this guy that interesting to paint, and as a result he ended up a bit lacklustre. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

  17. Just thought i would put these up to show off the new party making their way through saltmarsh. A party of six graduates from the civilized lands, roped into fulfilling a debt by their mentors. At least they are working together... they arent my finest work but for 6 hours of painting, they will do nicely for our little gaming group and the group enjoyed the surprise of coming to their second session to discover they all had custom painted minis! we have a Halfling fighter an elven thief with a fixation for daggers a halfling bard the blue dragonborn priest of Protos the black Dragonborn warlock (had to create the head. I couldnt find a dragonborn mini with an 8 strength...) and a Human ranger from the backstreets and slums hope you enjoy them, i dont know how long they will last....
  18. This is one I've had "in progress" for ages. I finally mustered the courage to tackle all the eyes and then had fun with drool!
  19. EDIT - This is now going to be somewhere I dump all my Reaper projects while (hopefully) not causing chaos by misusing the Show Off section. I'll pop finished miniatures that are individually worth looking at over there, too. My first post on the Reaper Forum, so please be nice! Not 100% sure where to post this as it falls into several categories. but here it is anyway - my Reaper Bones Hill Giant "Tribe" and their hillside display base. I posted these in my regular Warhammer forum but they are too far removed from WFB to gain much interest, so I thought I'd share them here in their "proper" home. I've always painted miniatures with the "excuse" that they will be used to play games with, whether that be D&D or Warhammer or anything in between, so my emphasis is on table-ready minis rather than masterpieces. This is one of the first projects I've done without a clear gaming purpose, but because I'm a gamer at heart I still needed to put everything on individual bases for two reasons - 1 - "just in case" a gaming use comes up 2 - because gaming bases excuses a gaming paint job! I decided on hex bases because I liked the way they tessellate The paint scheme, choice of pets and landscape are inspired by my AD&D days, I'm constantly trying to recapture my youth! (Glad to say that Reaper Bones have finally made this sort of project practical and affordable, and I hope to follow it with similar projects using the other trad D&D Giant races.) All 11 miniatures used (and the 11th is very hard to spot in these two pictures!) are from Reaper, mostly Bones. There are a few relatively simple conversions, mostly so I could use two pairs of giants without them being identical. The major scenic elements (trees and rocks) are made from errr real trees and real rocks, while almost all of the greenery is from a range of suppliers (Citadel, Army Painter and so on) I tried to position all of the models so that they are focused on something located just in front of the scene - presumably, a party of hostile adventurers! I don't want to drown people in images, but if there is interest I can post individual pictures of each giant and some WIP pictures of the project, as well as the identity of that 11th miniature...
  20. Another villager from me. :) This is a 03856 Townsfolk: Courtesan Got this one done at a painting day in about 3 hours of work, but interrupted by cups of tea. :)
  21. Presenting Mary Jo, a member of the River Widows faction from Reapers Dreadmere setting. Had a lot of fun painting this one, and as a bonus she turned out pretty decent too! As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  22. I'm very handy with a knife. Or so I kept telling myself. Until I cut off Cassie's index finger while trying to remove a few mold lines. Now, I'm trying to pass that particular incident off as a modification, but I'm not sure anyone is really buying it. Least of all Cassie. Hi everyone! Long-time lurker, but this is my first post, with my fifth miniature. Newbie painter, started with Reaper's LTP kits. This particular mini is one of my favorites, but I may have taken on a bit more than I can chew (or fix... with my hobby knife). I found a lot of good examples of well-painted Cassies here on the forum and decided to imitate one of the paint schemes I found. With mixed results. The amount of experience and talent around here is both inspiring and a bit intimidating. In any case, here she is, almost finished but not yet based. Haven't quite figured out what to do for a base. Is she in a forest setting, in a cave, in a desert? What would fit best with the current paint scheme? Will she ever forgive me for cutting off her finger? Questions, questions... /Cpt Tweet More on painting Cassie over at https://pocketsizedadventurers.wordpress.com/2019/03/31/playing-with-knives/
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6abfiH_Bygc So I finished this miniature. Video will be uploaded once I edit it. This isn't finished yet but I wanted to go ahead and get the post up on here. This is the Crimson Herald, a Reaper Bones Black figure. I didn't have a color scheme going into this big bad boy. Sadly the photos REALLY don't do it justice and I do have a video I am getting ready to post to youtube. This whole thing was like a Bob Ross Saved it moment for me. I grabbed paint throwing all caution to the wind and was like "ITTTTSSSSS FIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNEEEEEE" {its fine} Spoiler. It wasn't fine. So I painted the body With Citadel Hex Wraith Flame. The entire time after i was just like "oh god... what have i done! its a lime green wraith thing...." Luckily I had a bottle of Citadel Technical paint "Soulstone Blue" which weirdly enough I realized "i used technical paint... which doesn't dry normally very thick... and my solution is to use MORE paint that doesn't dry thick to make a thick paint? am i mad?!" Answer yes, but the photographs show im not without some merit to my madness.
