  1. Inspirational music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm932Sqwf5E I play some DOOM every once in a while, and every time I do I think of Sedition Wars (because, let's face it, the inspiration is apparent.) Making up my mind to do something about it, I set out to try and make a speed paint version of the Doom Slayer colour scheme. This was the result: Starting on a black undercoat, a two-tone brown/leather brown base coat. Olive heavy drybrush, then lighter yellow olive drybrush. Desert tan gun casing and a mix of yellow olive and desert tan for helmet and details. Some black and yellow for bits. Angels dark green on the visor, and just a few line highlights here and there. Base drybrushed boltgun metal, washed with strong tone quickshade ink and some blobs of red quickshade ink. Solid black rim. Done. Since the Sedition Wars kickstarter rewards turned out so dissappointing for many backers, the game and its minis have been consigned to oblivion it seems. McVey Studios apparently have dropped the line entirely, to concentrate on making minis for others. (as in The Others: 7 sins game and such like). For my part, after getting over the surprise of "premium plastic minis" turning out to be restic, I found the Sedition Wars mins to be quite nice actually. After growing familiar with the material, I find I do not agree with all the internet hate directed towards restic. It is good for it's use. The Sedition Wars minis also prove that the material can make really good minis. At any rate, after spending a lot of time prepping all that restic, they have been consigned to the drawers of doom with heaps of other KS minis like Dreadball, Deadzone and Mars Attacks!. I originally thought I would like to do the Vanguard Troopers like Stormtroopers, all in white and black. Since white and black are inherently hard to do, at least quickly, I put them off and off and after a while moved on to other things. Until now. Also, I think these will do nicely for Enforcers for Deadzone and Warpath. Vanguard Trooper from the Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster game set. (if you can get hold of a copy, do so! Great minis even though the game itself was a bit ...untested.) McVey Studios Restic 25mm base

    Maledrakh's Sedition Wars Bonecrabs

This year the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. The miniatures board game Sedition Wars: The Battle for Alabaster Station from McVey Studios did have a lot of nice miniatures even though it had a lot of problems. The Strain, a kind of plague (or alien virus whatever) that reanimates dead tissue shaping a series of horrifying stages of adversaries from zombie to full blown demon mecha...also have some interesting variations. Like these Bonecrabs. Imagine these scuttling towards you en masse at a rapid clip down a dark, claustrophobic corridor! Bonecrabs Strain Faction Sedition Wars: The Battle for Alabaster (KS wave 2) McVey Studios / Cool Mini or Not Restic 25mm bases.
  3. Continuing on with the Febuary challenge goals I set myself, (painting at least one of each from the following categories: Reaper Bones, Oathsworn, All Quiet of the Martian Front, Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40.000, Kings of War, Deadzone, DreadBall, Mars Attacks, Shadows of Brimstone, Sedition Wars, Drake, Grendel Productions something or other, and to finish something that currently stands around half-done on the shelf of shame), I have done a few minis over the weekend, As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. Here goes for Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster Strain Phase 1. Basically your space zombie mutant thing, Your former colleague or friend, Changing before your eyes and coming at you Doom-style. It is part machine, part necrotic tissue, all terrifying mutant monster! Painted in much the same way as the Space Hurps

Here goes for Finish something that currently stands around half-done on the shelf of shame Sedition Wars: The Battle For Alabaster, Hexen Phaedra. Normal and infected version. Hexen will double as a coach for my Team Toasters Robot Dreadball team. Hexen Phaedra is an obvious homage to Caprica Six from Battlestar Galactica, so naturally I painted her as such. Too bad that Studio McVey messed up the scale on many of the wave 2 minis like these. They are far to small and spindly. It was certainly not the only thing Studio McVey messed up with this Kickstartered game, but I do think they were hammered a little to much in the aftermath by disgruntled customers/ backers. The game isn't that bad, it was just rushed and not tested enough, The minis are for the most part really nice. Apart from the scale issue with most of the wave 2 homage characters. Nice but too small. In hindsight, these would have been easier to paint with a white or grey undercoat rather than black. How many layers did I need to cover? Let me count the ways...nope I lost count half way through. 25mm bases, restic.

    Sedition Wars

So, i recieved an unexpected update for Sedition Wars for some progress on Solo Play Beta rules. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/sedition-wars-battle-for-alabaster/posts/872802?at=BAh7CDoMcG9zdF9pZGkDYlENSSIIdWlkBjoGRVRpA8jnMEkiC2V4cGlyeQY7BlRJIhgyMDE0LTA3LTEwIDIxOjA5OjI0BjsGVA%3D%3D--c51041c1dc64b06b9f26fcefb1b5b21ad6dec823&ref=backer_project_update This was one of the things i was hoping for as i seldom get a chance to play with a group and also like to use solo rules to get familiar with a game. Yet i am "ho hum" about this update. Is anyone excited about this? How is Sedition Wars doing in the market...my impression is that it is dying. If so, will this help? Hmmm.

    Kickstart My Heart

Hello, all. Back into painting after hitting a little bundle of snag during January. As life is stabilizing (a very little bit) I have blown the dust off the brushes and tackled a few of my Kickstarter minis. First up, Relic Knights. Decided to start with the Doctrine and painted up a 35 point force. Hope to have my first game Friday. All together. My knight, Delphyne, and her cypher pal, Ekhis. Del alone. Ekhis solo. I really like the idea of the little girl and her monstrous protector, and as a result these were some of the models I was most looking forward to from the Kickstarter. Librarian. Better return those books. The head on this guy was rather poorly cast, too bad as this was another model I looked forward to getting and which helped me pick Doctrine as one of my factions. Oh well, he's the Libranaut now. Novitiates. Dead kids walking, if you believe the game reports. Silly models. I like 'em. I'm not sure you are ready for that book, junior. Academy guard. More bullet stoppers. I fear they look tougher than they will play. And a boost token! Cute little thing. As several of the boost tokens are rather nondescript, I picked the mine to use for whatever for now as I like the design the most. I also finished off three chumpo Strain from Sedition Wars that were started before the boy was born. Not terribly exciting, but they bring the completed Sedition Wars models up to this: Still not much, really. I wonder if I will ever play that game. It's nice to be working again. More Relic Knights to come (in a separate thread, right?), Noh and Cerci, more BONES, and some MYTH. Thanks for looking!
  7. Hello. I paint a lot of different things so I guess I will try to keep one thread running rather than make a thread for each thing or genre. Lately I have been working on Heroclix mods/repaints and Sedition Wars. Also the Bones-wolf in the other thread. Anything could show up, though, as I have been collecting minis for...a long time. Sedition Wars Like these minis. They have had mixed reviews since they started being received, but I think McVey did a good job with these models. Have been slowly picking away at the box. Went with yellow for the Samaritans and your standard zombie palette for the Strain. Akosha was the character I was most excited to paint from the core game. I wanted to paint her up in light colors since I have yet to see her that way, and as a contrast to her nature as a wetwork killer assassin type. Here she is with her active camo version as well. And a close up of the glowing eyes on the camo'd one. Since she's a cyborg, and all. Heroclix I have recently been bitten by the mod bug for Heroclix. It isn't a game that one would normally consider for rewarding painting, but there are some really talented modders doing inspiring work out there and some really horrid models that need replacing with something more aesthetically acceptable. Hulk. A Heroscape figure repainted and mounted on the base of a little-tiny-not-at-all-imposing sculpt from the Incredible Hulk set. Superman repainted Kingdom Come style and put on a sculpted explosion to replace the hideous TabApp sculpt. For those unfamiliar with Heroclix, the TabApp sculpts are an abomination whose only value is that they have inspired many to try modding their figures. Captain America. Another TabApp repaint/swap with some new wings sculpted on the temples. Wolverine TabApp. Repaint and some sculpting for the hair. A classic look from right after Fall of the Mutants. Thanos. I love Thanos. A Heroscape repaint and sculpted gems for the Infinity Gauntlet on the original dial from the first set. Sorry for the pic dump. Further updates will be smaller. This is just the more interesting stuff I've done recently. I have just finished up some more Strain, the Bones Minotaur, and a Zoat. Will put up pics when they are taken. In the pipe: more Sedition Wars, Alkemy kitties, more Heroclix, maybe some GW. Thanks for looking.

    My mission was a failure

Back in February, I posted that I wanted to finish my Sedition Wars figures before my Bones arrived. I failed. Even with the delay in shipping, I failed. Even with painting 71 SW figures in February, I failed. Why did I fail? Too much, too fast, I think. I started with the low level strain, while my interest was high, and painted bucket loads of them. By the time I got to the big figures and the character models I was totally burned out. I didn't pick up a brush again for over two months, and even then I couldn't bring myself to look at the remaining 11 figures. That's right, a scant 11 figures was all that stood between me and completion. I didn't get my Bones until the early part of July, so that's four months to paint 11 models.I have no real excuse either, I wasn't painting to a high standard, I was treating them like the game pieces they are. I wasn't too busy, regular season TV was over, the kids are healthy and happy, no major distractions. Just a complete burn out. Obviously something has happened, since I'm posting in the Show off forum. I made the decision to clear my desk of half started projects. No new work until all old work is cleared. So now they are done. Painted using the Dip method, because I wanted them gone from my desk. Let me know what you think.
