  1. Hello All, Here is a recent work I completed last week. 44049 Bones Black "Stone Lurker" aka "Roper." Thank you for looking.
  2. I tried to make the tentacles a little "stonier" with some texture, although it made the dry brushing sort of problematic. A few action shots at the end. Might as well stand and fight if you're just going to take opportunity attacks until you're 50' away.. I'd welcome comments and criticism as well. My skin isn't quite as tough as this guy, but I'm at least AC 12... best, -t
  3. Hello everyone, now that my Perils of the Underworld diorama is built, I'll post here the detailed steps of my paintings sessions. The Work in progress of the display base can be found HERE. Let’s start the painting section with a hack to save time. When I paint a large surface, typically a terrain piece, I apply paint straight on the surface and spread it with a large brush. It’s way faster, since I don’t have to go back to the palette each time to reload the brush bristles. Here I’m using a #8 flat brush. As a base coat for the display I used 09660 powderburn brown. I filled the gaps and hard to reach areas with a #1 brush. At this step, I’m using old brushes as it doesn’t matter if the bristles are sharp or not. I then applied a dry brush of 09028 muddy brown all over the base. I dry brushed of 09028 muddy brown on the upper part of the 03602 stone lurker and started painting the bat as well. The bat is from the 02018, Familiar Pack I. I used the same colors on the bat's perch that those I used on the display base. I painted the bat body in 29843 solid black. Next, I started layering the bat wings with military grey (this out of production color can be substituted by 09438 tempest grey). Here’s the picture I referred to for the bat wing colors. For the bat fur, I used 09059 aged bone and the fingers were painted with a mix of 29839 maroon red and 09059 aged bone. Even if it will be impossible to see the back side of the bat when it would be attached to the display base, I painted it anyway. 17mm wingspan ready to take off. I applied a 29822 suntan flesh highlight on the stalactite, then a mix of 29822 suntan flesh and 09059 aged bone for the final highlights. Here’s the back side completed with a final 29822 suntan flesh highlight. Here you go, that’s it for today. Spread your wings and go explore the Underworld.
  4. Painted up another bad guy for my players to encounter! Used contrast paints and light drybrushing on the stone Added the chompy goo-gore with glossy red
  5. As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. As I was painting the statues, I had some paint left over on the palette. So I started this rocky thing to lessen the wastage: Bones KS2 Roper 77227 Stone Lurker Not to be confused with that demon-thing from the *ahem* "adult anime" Urotsukidôji. Basically, a stalagmite look-alike monster that suddenly throws its rope-like tentacles around the unwary delver that comes too close.
  6. Here's this weekend's work. I started this "Stone Lurker" yesterday and finished him up earlier. When assembling it I had some issues trying to get all the tentacles to fit in a slot. While you can tell that each join is uniquely shaped, the soft detail and mold lines made it so they didn't match up that well. I broke down and checked the gallery, but then I noticed that the stone lurker was also pictured on the core set box. They aren't put together the same way so I don't feel too bad about having issues myself. What's that? Hunting adventurers is just a side job? You work in Japan full time? You don't say...
  7. 77227 Stone Lurker. (Bones II) Whatever Reaper choose to call it, it's clearly a roper. It doesn't look precisely like any of the ropers described in various D&D Monster Manuals, but it's a stony pillar with six long tentacular arms, so really, what else could it be? I've based it on a big, heavy washer and extended the base stonework with greenstuff.
