  1. I started working on the wizards from the Bone 4 core set. I was originally running through the usual themes - brown, grey, red etc. but this colour scheme on a different figure really caught my eye and I thought it would work on this figure. I didn't realize he was supposed to be an evil wizard until I looked it up on line (sku 03847 by Bobby Jackson btw). But hey evil wizards can like bright colours too, right?
  2. Hello guys and gals! Here is one of the minis I just finished this morning, a Ral Partha Kindly Old Wizard, I think sculpted by Dennis Mize. Sadly I forgot about the "old" part in the Kingly Old Wizard, and made his beard much more brown than a really old wizard would have I'm thinking. This is one of the Ral Partha Imports that Dennis Mize sculpted based on some old Citadel miniatures. So anyhoos, here he is, feigning friendliness!
  3. Since I’m wrapping up Deladrin, here is the next in the queue. Devona, Female Wizard. She’s a curious wizard with plate mail leggings, a chain mail skirt, and a staff that looks more like a spear. Also, is her torso adorned with a breastplate? Or is it part of her dress? And what’s up with the scalloped things on her back? Not sure what I’m going to do with her. I hope you enjoy the process of discovery tagging along with me. The one thing I have decided is to try to give her more of an East Indian skin tone.
  4. Been on a metal kick lately.
  5. Last new show off from me for a while. I finished him a while back. His WIP is here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/87019-darcstaar-vs-bones-1-ep-4-kieran-tallowmire-wizard/&tab=comments#comment-1844494 I initially wanted to paint orange. That got me thinking of a sunset color scale. It came out OK, but the process was harder than I thought it would be. Also, I’m trying to go through old Bones faster, but this was taking too long! A shot of his Fireball scroll. I went with burnt out candles to avoid needing to worry about OSL. I tried to pattern the feather as an owl feather. Hope you like it! C&C welcome.
  6. Sartzanek, the mad archmage! Twisted like an iron pole struck by lightning. On another world, on another time, he says he was Blackcloack, the lord of an infinite dungeon. On sundays he is Zifnab and White Jenkins, the small aberration on his shoulder, secretly a dragon. For a while he liked to play games with adventurers and claimed his name was Penthos. Who knows, really. He may just be an old lunatic. Or maybe a sorcerer like no other... you decide. At your own risk.
  7. I recently finished Anirion! It was time to add layering to my toolbox of techniques and he seems to be the go-to model for learning. Since by I now have (just) over 10 minis under my belt, I'm obviously an expert so I felt confident enough to go with my own colors rather than the ones in the instructions (from Layer-Up kit). Still, even with my "vast experience", I've only painted beasts and monsters so far -- no fancy clothing on any of them -- so I was a bit nervous about messing up my first hero, but you gotta start somewhere. I think he turned out great, but it went nothing like the videos one might find... And by that I mean it took me several painting sessions over a few weeks to finish him. More on how it went on: pocketsizedadventurers.wordpress.com/2019/10/19/anirions-wavy-robes/ * * First post, woo-hoo! Still finding my way around here. Rules seem to allow non-commercial external links, let me know if I'm wrong... Our blog, Pocket-Sized Adventurers, features the works of two newbies and is meant to keep track of our progress and share our experience with whomever might find it helpful.
  8. I fell back to lurking of the forums again. So starting this year I decided to get back to painting and posting. Most of what I've done lately has been with gaming in mind. I wanted to try out Frostgrave Perilous Dark Solo campaign, so I decided to dual task my painting. I also wanted to play with a full group of painted figures for Zombicide Black Plague. Since I have already finished up all the zombies and Necromancer for the core game. Baldric looked like and excellent candidate for my Wizard. (well him or my 2 Necro's I've already finished, Shh....). I decided to try to keep as close to the box art as I could. Here is my Baldric. Thanks for looking and any C&C you feel inspired to give.

  14. I love painting these dice people! Painted the wizard to be an unpainted die, and the familiar as a die made of ivory (bone.) I now have these joining the gang, and only two left to paint. :D
  15. I painted 2 minis for @Jasper_the_2nd for the spring exchange. I had an idea for awhile to paint a little vignette based on a funny cartoon. When I was given Jasper as my exchange partner and read his survey, I knew he was the right recipient! I painted Galladon (one of my favorite minis, don't ask me why) as a grumpy wizard who has set out to summon a demon. He carefully prepares the spell and casts his incantation....there is smoke and a "poof"! He is so excited to see what evil he has called forth. He peers into the smoke. He sees piercing eyes staring back at him. The smoke starts to clear, his excitement builds! What the..... He grabs the scroll to see what went wrong....
  16. I liked painting this figure, did it for a friend from my d&d party. He's using it as his half-elf druid. We are both happy with it overall Hope you like it too! I also tried fiddling with lighting and a background for the first time so if you have any tips on what I could have done better with the photos please share :) Thanks for looking!
  17. After going back to Darius and repaint him I decided to do the same with Domur. Like I did with Darius, I'm posting both versions, the first I painted and the current one. I kept both since I had two or three of them. For the first one I tried a scheme similar to the official one: on the second, a more conservative fire look. First Domur (2018) 2nd Domur
  18. Another Bones figure. I'm not entirely sure where the color scheme came from. I just started and it kind of grew. This is a very annoying figure to paint. The hat brim is very wide and there's detail under it that is almost impossible to get to. The same is true of the beard. But the semi-random color scheme turned into something way outside what I usually paint, but in a good way. Bones are great for experiments, because I don't feel like I have to obsess about every detail like I would for a competition piece. And I think my quality is going up as a result.
  19. Hi there, this is my first attempt at OSL. I was going for drama, but it does seem a little heavy handed. I learned alot painting it. I'm fairly pleased with it. Feedback and questions welcome. Thanks for looking!
  20. In 2018 I got one of my favourite 25th Anniversary miniatures, Darius the Blue. I actually have all three of Darius sculpts, the latest being my favourite too. First I tried to paint it with the same mosaic pattern Reaper used, without any success, so I settled with... kind of a freehand that I didn't like at all and a very excentric color palette. That (in my opinion) failed attempt got stuck on my head and recently I bought another one to paint it again, and I'm a lot happier with the results. This is my only "1 year improvement" pic, and I thought on sharing it here since being the exact same miniature I would love some feedback. Here the 2018 version And the 2019 version that I just finished today
  21. My hommage to my favourite Disney movie growing up. I guess my fascination for wizards started here, to later mature with Gandalf and Raistlin. I realize its a busy mini diorama, I did it that way to try convey the look of Merlin's room on the movie. Yet, I think the photos are quite bad.
  22. While watching Ks Bones V, I was painting in front of my PC. Here, the second one I painted. Wizard/Druidesque palette, first time I try painting freckles O_o
  23. While running the 5e Princes of the Apocalypse campaign for my group, the adventurers had come upon a mad Druid-cum-Cultist at the top of his tower. His name was Elizar Dryflagon, and he'd become obsessed with the power of fire. I wanted to have something fun prepared for this battle, and when I found Aaron while looking through my unpainted stuff, I thought that he would be a perfect surrogate! A bit of OSL seemed an obvious choice due to the flames, but I didn't want to go overboard with it. In the end, the group ended up demolishing him and his summoned Smoke Mephits alike! Tough his appearance may have been short-lived, it was sure memorable!
  24. Just finished the wizard for my upcoming mordheim/frostgrave orc warband! Hope you like him
  25. This is the Wizard from Grenadier’s Wizards box set circa 1980. Most of the minis from the set were called variations like Sorcerer, Illusionist, Magician, and Warlock. But there are also 2 druids and a cleric included. I painted all the minis from the set in my teens, then wanted to repaint them in my early 20’s so I had my friend sandblast(!) the paint off. That eroded much of the detail. So the detail in the beard, hands, imp, is almost all painted in.
