Rat13
During the last Box of Goodwill I came across an almost full set of the Mega Miniatures Kung-Fu blister. Initially I only grabbed a couple with the intention of painting up some generic ninja type mooks. Then an idea formed and I found myself taking the whole blister. These figures looked perfect to replicate the 80's TMNT Foot Clan. Knowing I wouldn't get to them anytime soon I spent a session prepping them so they would be ready the moment I finished my Robotech project. After some bases, a bit of greenstuff, and some primer (picture is obviously before priming) I set them aside. Starting the session I actually intended to paint the generic ninjas in batches of three. Thanks to a bit too much paint on the pallette however I went ahead and basecoated them all. The basecoat is very rough and will require some cleanup but I couldn't belive just how quickly they took their two main colors. Obviously I didn't get to them right after my Robotech project but I did start them immediately after my TMNT Tau so that should count for something. Right?
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted September 30, 2022 Moderator Share Posted September 30, 2022 Looking good so far. They'll make good enemies for your TMNTT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tau).
Hibou
Awesome. I put those in the box of goodwill. I got them for a dollar at one of the discount booths at Gencon and never got around to doing anything with them. I am glad they are finally seeing some paint. 4

Both projects were conceived at very different times without any thought for each other, I simply followed my inspiration. I certainly hadn't planned to paint them back to back either but here we are. 19 hours ago, Hibou said: Awesome. I put those in the box of goodwill. For a set like these I really debated on taking them all. Though I had an idea on how to use them and I'm going to paint them all it almost seemed like a breach of box etiquette. How much can you take from a set before it becomes unseemly? Moral conundrum aside I'm glad they made it into the box. Your dollar investment has already turned a profit in terms of hours of enjoyment, thanks. Last night I did make it to the desk but I didn't have a chance to post my progress. Cutting my session very short I didn't make much anyway. I only managed to clean up and paint the flesh on six figures, which took no time at all. Getting back to it tonight however I was able to finish cleaning up the remaining models and adding their base skin tone. I also painted the weapons and gave the skin a wash before calling it a night.

From what I remember you were the box starter and I was second. so if they made it back around to you it means no one in our circuit wanted them. Let your conscience be clear every one in that group had a crack at them so there is no breech in etiquette. All models deserve to be painted and these languished too long under my care. Just seeing you paint them up is worth more than the paltry investment I made in them. 3

Just seeing you paint them up is worth more than the paltry investment I made in them. You're right, they did get a full circuit but I doubt they would have survived a second one. Having read through my box's logbook a few times I think those figures would have been a sleeper hit to be grabbed on its second trip. I'm glad to hear from their previous owner that my paintjob is doing them justice. I painted for way longer than I had planned to tonight. Thinking I'd paint the eyes and maybe add highlights to the skin I soon found myself in a real groove. Not wanting to stop I went ahead and painted the bases too. These being Foot clan proxies I figure city streets would be appropriate. I even painted a few manhole covers on the figures whose integrated bases were a bit too noticeable. As is my norm I thought about leaving them "clean" but decided a slight wash on the figures would be better. At least its not the heavy wash I usually do, that should count for something, right? Tomorrow we'll see if I made the right choice.
Rat13
Looks like the wash came out okay. Somehow I had forgotten to paint the symbol on their masks however so I quickly added it. The symbol isn't perfect on any of them but they do read well at tabletop distance so I'm calling it good enough. Moving on to the final four figures this project goes off the rails a bit. The remaining figures are more character than nameless mook and unfortunately I only have an 80's series idea for one. Though I'd prefer to keep everything to one series I just can't come up with any good ideas so get ready for a real hodgepodge. First up is a loose interpretation of Karai from TMNT(2003). It actually painted up very quickly and though it still needs a bit of work I'm happy with it so far. Much of my painting time tonight was spent figuring out what to paint these three "extra" figures as in addition to researching costumes.
Rat13
Karai recieved a wash tonight but it really didn't change the figure too much what with the main color being black. It did however add some grime to the flesh and some depth to the belt. My main focus tonight comes from yet another TMNT property (I did say this was going to be a hodgepodge). It actaully painted up very quickly and will only need a few final touches next session. I'm hoping that this figure properly reads as Master Tatsu from the 90's live-action movies. I believe the mustache gives it away but your mileage may vary.
Rat13
Got back to it tonight and seemingly made up for lost time. Master Tatsu recieved his final wash and is "finished" (barring of course painting the rim of the base and sealing everything). He didn't change very much however so a progress picture seemed unnecessary, we'll just have to wait for his final pictures instead. Moving along to the second to last figure I couldn't find a villain that really fit the model. Even after opening the project to other Turtle iterations nothing seemed to fit, so once again I decided to change things up. Much like with Master Tatsu I'm hoping this reads as Hamato Yoshi albeit pre his exposure to mutagen. Looks like my TMNT Tau have a Master, guess I really do need to paint up a Michelangelo now to complete the set. Knowing what I wanted to do with the final figure from the start I really only made one change. This figure truly resembles Oroku Saki from the 2003 series and though I wanted the project to stick to one TMNT iteration I came very close to painting it like the 2003 version. After compromising for Master Tatsu the 2003 scheme was even more appealing but at the last moment however I decided to stick with the 80's series. Finding a couple of shots from the show's flashback sequences I went ahead and painted him in his old training outfit. Both figures still need some work but I'd say its great progress for a single session.
Rat13
After last night both figures were just about finished with only their eyes and flesh highlights left to paint. Obviously that didn't take very long so I had planned to start sealing everything. Being completely out of sealer put a stop to that however; it looks like its reorder time. So actually finishing this project and final pictures will have to wait for a bit.
Rat13
I painted the base rims and sealed everything last night but didn't have time to take pictures. Found a bit of spare time today though so here are the final pictures. For those interested here's how they stack up to my Teenage Mutant Ninja Tau. The Tau are quite a bit bulkier which works as the turtles themselves were bulkier when compared to humans.
