Y'all behave and follow the rules! [yeah...like THAT's gonna happen].

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †

1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††

2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 11 AM Reaper time (US Central).
4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.

8. Pix always welcome.

1st: Have you ever been to an outdoor wedding?

2nd: Did you enjoy it?

I have been to quite a few, including my own and all of my siblings, strangely enough.  Must be a family thing!  Most were at venues that had wall-less structure of sorts for the wedding to take place under, but several were also done in back yards or parks under a sunny sky.  Most recently in March we went to Cancun for the wedding of a longtime gamer buddy and it even rained on the poor bride as she was doing her walk up to the covered area, and it did nothing to dampen the spirits.  And when there was a big boom of thunder just as the officiant asked the congregation if we supported the couple, we took that as a good sign.  😉

For me, there is something about being dressed up in a suit/tux/something snazzy and yet being in a park or back yard.  Having spent so many years in business clothes in dark offices, there is something "different" about wearing them at an outdoor event.  I find weddings have just gotten crazier and crazier with expected requirements and being outside often strips some frivolous things back to basics: The happy couple and the folks there supporting and celebrating them.

As a guest, no.  For set-up, I don't think so.  Throughout my childhood mom worked from home as a cake decorator, and I was dragged along to help schlep stuff to countless reception setups.  I can remember dad driving our minivan slowly to not jar the cakes, and emergency repairs when it was hot and the buttercream would start to melt and slough off the cakes, but not being outdoors.

Yes, I have been to two ( which, I believe is also the grand total of weddings that I have EVER been to as a guest. I missed a lot of stuff being in the Navy). My cousin's and my own.

Yes, they were both enjoyable, although my cousin's was extremely warm. I definitely enjoyed mine!

Been to several. They were ok but weddings are a huge interest for me.

I have been to several, now that I think about it:

  • One of my cousins was married in the courtyard of an Italian restaurant (long since closed).  I had a reasonable time.
  • Mrs. Strawhat's aunt was married at a mansion in Florida.  It was a nice place, Spanish moss dripping from the tree branches and everything.  My future father in law and I did some of the schlepping for various things and generally tried to stay out of the way (and out of notice).  The beer was pretty good, too, but I don't remember the brand.  Not that I would be able to get it here, anyway, but sometimes I like to remember things like that.  I had a reasonable time.
  • Some other knucklehead I know managed to find a woman willing to be his wife, and her favorite aunt lives down in Florida (part of his family, too).  So they did a destination wedding.  The beer wasn't as good at this one, though.  I suppose you could say I had an ok time.  :poke:

Nope, never been to one, and don't really plan on such either... Brain reminds me I was dragged as a kid to an outdoors one, but since I remember nothing of it it clearly wasn't anything I was even remotely interested in.  It doesn't count since I was single digits at the time!

Would I go to one?  Probably not, I'm not really the wedding type, doubly so because they've become so insanely expensive of an endeavour.  Like, if you're going to spend over $30k on a single day, that's a brand new car, or a down payment on a house, both of which are rather useful things...

But I'm also a fox who's plans for our wedding literally are sign piece of paper, then meet up with friends at Japanese Village for some teppan, and come as you are, no formal wear allowed (tuxes banned, but if you want to go out dressed as some steampunk gentleman, do realize that yes you will be allowed but I'll be in a pair of cargo pants (or Tripps) and a tshirt 😛

Mom will so freak out if she ever finds out, dad will be all "aww, I didn't get to go to Japanese Village!"

1:  Yes, once. It was in an empty field in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky (wedding for then-girlfriend's college friend).

2: It was an experience. Let's just leave it at that.

Well considering it was my own, I hope so!!

My wife & I got married in Sept 22nd, 1997 in one of the parks in town. It has a large pond with a arched bridge over part of it. We took pics of us on it, but we didn't actually do the ceremony there, we did that near a grove of trees.

(Since I totally spaced off last month quizzle (I blame ReaperCon for that), I will try to hit this one everyday this time around!)
