Has your GPS ever gotten you totally lost or stranded?😈

I have had a few times where I hadn't updated in a while when the situation had changed, so I needed to look for the signs again...

But not really lost or stranded,

Not that I can think of. I tend to look up destinations on the maps before I go just in case. It has been unable to find the address when I typed it in, but luckily I had done the aforementioned Google map view and had a rough idea of where to go. I really need to update the software in my car.

Yes, when my wife and I headed up to Edmonton during our honeymoon, the GPS gave the option "West Edmonton Mall" with no address showing. It ended up taking us into downtown Edmonton, and I had to find the option with the specific address in order to get to the correct location.

Aside from a confusing highway exit not really. But last spring my GPS (Garmin) was convinced I *was* completely lost because a new stretch of highway wasn't in its database yet.

According to my GPS, I was driving at 100kph through rocky snow banks. One heck of a shortcut!

Nope, don't have a gps unit, and I pre-plan with maps, and drive with previous knowledge in hand.

Google Maps on the other hand, gets lost all. The. Time.  The house you're looking for is in this field!  It's down this sketchy alley!  Yeah, I don't rely on the voice as a backup, I believe too much in pre-planning and having knowledge of where you're going, even if it's just main roads.

Will I use Google Maps?  Yup, I use it in occasion, but the voice is never my only guide, many a time I've ignored her directions because I was told to drive the wrong way down a one way, or someone has deliberately trained it day after day that their house is actually the garage in the alley (so their dependence on Google Maps will get them home).  It's a tool, but I've seen far too many depend on gps to get around for daily things, and are utterly lost if their phone battery dies or they lose signal for ten seconds...

Tooo Many Years of actual land navigation by road maps, or USGS maps with compasses in the field.  When the GPS starts not to make sense, out come the maps.  So has it?... No, I have never given it the opportunity.

Not really, no. I occasionally use google maps when I'm driving somewhere I've never been. But I always review the location and route before leaving so that if the program does give me poor directions I'll have an idea of what's going on. Plus, I'm old enough to have been driving all over the place using road maps and gazetteers. So sometimes I'll just use those. Especially if I'm somewhere without cell signals, which is kind of often.

We actually had a fun lesson in not trusting GPS software in hilly areas this summer when one of my bosses insisted that we were in the right place based on their phone despite it not matching our maps at all. We spent a long, hot afternoon kicking and stomping through brambles and checking out the quality of all the water resources there. And when we left there was a guy waiting by our vehicle to tell us we were on the wrong property. He did give us directions to the right one though, which was what we originally had marked on our maps.

Not completely, because I have inherent direction sense and I know when it's wrong, but it has done some strange things and taken me to the wrong places (and even a few that didn't exist).  But never totally lost.
