1st: Have you ever been to an outdoor wedding?

2nd: Did you enjoy it?

My sister and brother in law renewed their vows at an outdoor "wedding" at the farm. It was nice, but it was a lot of work and they're seperated now. I think it was a last ditch attempt to rekindle their marriage.

Has your GPS ever gotten you totally lost or stranded?😈

Oh yes, plenty. I never have a clue where I'm going anyhow. The car is a 2015 Ford Escape, and it has built in GPS. The problem is, they want $200 to update it. Nope. So all the maps for the city of Calgary are almost 10 years outdated. Plenty of accidential adventures have ensued.

The best story about this that I challenge you guys to top: My cousin was RCMP in Lake Louise for a few years. During that time, he assisted in a helicopter rescue of an Asian couple who followed their GPS--right off the highway and into the river. I can't find the photo, but it was two people on a winch line being lifted from the roof of a car in a fast moving alpine river.

Google has since updated their maps to show that the range road doesn't go all the way though--well, it does, but you have to go through the cow pasture and the creek before you get to the highway and you probably want to have a 4x4. We used to have the odd car drive down behind the barn before they figured it out.

It hasn't, although it tried a time or two.

We were going to "Grandparent's Day" at Strawbonnet 1's daycare a couple years back and that's about an hour away in a neighboring state.  Now, I knew that if I got on the highway it would take me to the city.  It wasn't the shortest or fastest route, but it take us there with a minimum of other driving.

But the GPS didn't like that route, so kept trying to get me to turn around and drive back to a different city to get onto the interstate, which would have added over an hour to the trip.  The silly thing didn't recompute until we stopped for gas.

It also took a less-than-ideal route back to our hotel when we were visiting Youngest after the birth of Strawbonnet 1.  We left town to go to the hotel and I used the GPS because it was dark.  Well, I missed the "correct" turn that would have taken us to the base's front gate, and the GPS took us all the way 'round to the back gate.  I don't think the guards usually saw much traffic at night as they seemed a bit surprised to see us.  The "bright side" to the side-trip was a sign on the road cautioning us to be alert for low-flying aircraft...which made us wonder just how low do the planes fly?!

Never stranded but when you don't update the car ones...  We once ended up driving around for a long time with our "you are here" arrow flowing in the middle of a field while we tried to find our way.  Of course, we dug up an old paper map in the door of the car and while the new developed area wasn't on that map either, it gave us enough info to figure things out...  After I drove for ages and got rather cranky.

It drives me crazy that all the new subdivisions are [subdivision name] +suffix. IE: Happy Home Way, Happy Home Park, Happy Home Hill. The older ones had a theme. Varsity has streets named for different universities. We were driving around one looking for an address and I go, "There's Happy Home Pt. I don't know what a pt is, but there it is." (Pt is pronounced like something you'd spit.) Mumsy: "That's point." Me: "Oh, okay."

Had a few incidents using GPS. The worst was about 10 years ago while visiting Fort Walsh. Google it, it's in a beautiful area. Going there were took the highway but that added about 45 minutes to our travel time. On the way home I was on a wide, well maintained gravel road. It was raining and my wife started harping on how the GPS was saying I needed to take a different road. So to keep her quiet I went off the good road onto a smaller one. It was fine until it got to an oil well and then it turned into a prairie trail. I only needed to go a little bit on the trail to hit the next highway so I tried it. Got stuck, walked a couple of miles to a couple different farms on the main road I'd just left. Finally a woman going home after work came along and got her husband to come pull me out. Embarrassing as I knew better than leave the main road.

Have you ever had pickled green tomatoes?

Nope & considering the Southern* part of the US is alive & well in my town, I'm kinda surprised myself.

*Southern as in it sounds like a Southern thang...

Never has. Of course I don't have a car or a GPS, so I haven't had issues with it.

On the move from Texas, however, Son Phil's GPS guided us over 1,200 miles perfectly.
