Have you ever had pickled green tomatoes?

I've never had any kind of green tomatoes, aside from the kind that eventually becomes red.

It's weird that just last weekend, an elderly woman talked to me about her green tomato pie.

Tomatoes make me sick.  The smell is nauseating, and they are high in citric acid, so just like citrus fruits, if I touch them, that area breaks out in blisters and turns bright red.  I have no real experience with the green ones, but the last time Dad bought too many normal tomatoes to eat himself, the cheapskate in me made him tomato curry sauce to freeze.  Nitrile gloves kept the juice off my hands, though the smell was terrible. But standing over the steaming pot, my whole face turned red and the skin got all tight and painful.  After showering I needed a few applications of heavy duty eczema moisturizer to feel human.

And while I don't seem to be as allergic to vinegar, it makes me cough and gag just smelling it.  So I don't do pickles either.

Yep, but I made them myself after having a large number of underripe tomatoes at the end of a gardening season several years ago. So they may not have been prepared in any kind of traditional fashion. I liked them, and I gave a couple jars to my dad and he seemed to like them too.

Not in the traditional sense, no.  I prefer to let mine ripen (in the garage if necessary).  However one year winter came early and I was left with an armload of beautiful large green tomatoes so I made pickle relish.  Tomato pickle relish is indistinguishable from cucumber relish (unless you happen to be allergic). once cooked and canned.

You can pickle nearly anything. One year I made yellow squash pickles, they were really good.

Tomatoes should be eaten red, raw, or as some sort of sauce (salsa, enchilada, marinara, pizza, cocktail, etc.).  I love pickled cucumber, though.

I might try them on a dare...

I'll only do "normal" dill pickles, though, "bread and butter" and "sweet" are right out.  I mean, when a farm dog known for eating virtually anything spits something out you should probably not eat something it won't.

Which do you like better, Sunrise or Sunset?

Neither,  both are usually good things especially if experienced outdoors.

What he said.  ^^^^^^

Well, now I've got that song from Fiddler on the Roof in my head.

Anyways, I'm more a fan of sunset, although both are kind of nice. But sunset means my working day is officially done and I can begin to relax. Also, for some reason I swear that whenever I'm up before dawn and working I end up driving east into the sunrise and blinding myself for most of the morning.

Though I live far enough North to see both of them, I prefer sunsets as I associate them with the end of a work day, so I know I'll get to relax.

Sunrises are the opposite, the day starts quietly and then picks up steam.

Though around this time of year, on account that I live west of my work place, I get blinded by the sun during both my morning and afternoon commute. And I mean head-on low to the ground sunlight. Even with sunglasses, the glare blocks my view. At those moments, I sympathize with vampires.
