GTKY: November/December Question Thread

A talking crow, definitely... I could teach it to answer the phone for me and take messages.

Fun Fact: I reskinned a 4E pixie druid into a Fey "werecrow" named Jack Daw - due to the 4E rules for wildshape, he could talk in bird form, naturally fly right from first level (instead of pixie wings, each of his four wings was a single crow feather), and all his druid powers were flavored as natural abilities of his race. He was loud, raucous, sarcastic and abrasive...and occasionally liked to snack on dead things. ::P: He spent most of his time as a crow, riding around on other party member's shoulders pretending to be a familiar. His backstory was that one day he saw the Raven Queen flying along in crow form and thought she was hot, so he chased after her until she finally left him stranded on the material plane with no way to get back to the Feywild.

If you could live anywhere in the world during the winter months, where would that be?

My wife would say somewhere warm, where it doesn't get cold or snow. I'm not sure. On one hand that would be nice, on the other hand, I kinda LIKE snow. Especially if I don't have to shovel/drive in it.

I'm not a big fan of the cold, but I've always wanted to experience a winter in one of those places that constantly gets pounded with several feet of snow. Just to see what it's like. So Buffalo, NY I guess?

Syracuse takes home the crown as the snowiest city in America, averaging 127.8 inches each winter. That's just shy of 11 feet of snow, most of which is courtesy of the large body of water to its northwest: Lake Ontario. So I guess here.

Tenerife one of the Canary Islands.

Nice Weather, good food etc etc..

Too expensive to do that right now and not possible with work etc. but if I ever get the chance to buy a condo there and spend the winters there I will.

Hard to say. I've lived/travelled in many climates with vastly different winters. All have been enjoyable in their own way.

Still, I'm mostly a city boy. So any non-tropical urban area will do (I have relatives who spend winter in Costa Rica). I *need* snow.

I share the feeling. It's relatively simple to deal with the cold and a snow covered ground is bright and cheery compared to grey November. And if I don't have to shovel it and the roads or walking paths are clear, winter is quite enjoyable if you're active at the same time.

That number is very similar to the amounts of snow I lived with most of my life.

It's not REALTM winter unless I have a 10 foot tall snowbank on the front lawn.

I don't mind a little snow or temps in the 20s (F), but I'm not a fan of it getting below 0.  Which is to say between 1-3 hours south of where I currently live is ok.  Below that they get several rounds of freezing rain every year, which is a whole different kind of bad. At that point you may as well keep moving south and skip winter all together.

I'd probably go a few hours south and choose Calgary.  More interesting weather, several of my favourite stores are there (although my absolute fave went online only a decade ago), and I just enjoyed the nice variety that was there.

Their public transit isn't anywhere near the same mess Edmonton's is...

Also yeah, I like what it has, and what's on offer within an hour's drive or so...

If it wasn't such a massive pain in the bum pushing my Housemates wheelchair through it, I'd like to live somewhere that got a decent amount of snow.

I would go with a slow tour of the Hawaiian islands.

I think @Inarah intended this one as a money is no objection hypothetical so I would find an Oceanside condo/resort/mansion and spend a month there just chilling.  Living like Magnum.  Then move to another island and repeat. Oahu, Maui, Hawaii . . . not necessarily in that order.

Somewhere too warm to snow, with a beach.  It wouldn't have to be tropical.  Mediterranean, south of Ireland, southern coast of Japan would all be nice this time of year.
