Popular Post jdizzy001
If you recall, I painted a village using the grisaille or slap chop method. If you were an astute observer (or you read my post) you may recall I said I had held one mini back which I was going to paint in the "normal" base coat, wash, highlight method. Here is it. I also included one of the grisaille minis to make a side by side comparison. I apologize for the lighting. I just moved and haven't found the ideal spot to take photos yet. I should probably invest in a light box. I've been painting for 12 years so I would have earned my value back on the box multiple times over by now.
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted November 12, 2022 Moderator Share Posted November 12, 2022 Nice work on her! Depending on what exactly you're comparing, it might be beneficial to use a figure that's painted in a similar color scheme (if you have one) . They both look very good; I think the man's face looks a little better, though.
jdizzy001
Thanks for the tip, and I agree. There is a lot more definition in the male's face.

Gantrell
I love her white cloth. excellent job on that. The blue accent is perfect.
Iridil
I like them both - a nice comparison would be the same mini in the same scheme to compare the versions... his face has much more definition it seems
Grand Slam
Great color scheme...It's like Beverly Crusher as a villager 🙂 You did a particularly nice job on the apron...nice shading. I agree with everyone else. It's hard to choose which method works better when comparing these two (both look great). I think it's probably just a matter of getting more familiar with slap chop until you can pic out the types of minis it's likely to work best on (the same way we see minis with wrinkled/folded robes and know that they'd be ideal for the shade/highlight method).
