My home teachers from Church came out for a visit on Sunday. There are minis everywhere in the house, so the new guy asked if he could take photos. I told him to go for it. I said I mostly paint Bronze Age, since that is my favorite era of history. Then we sat down on the couch to visit. He asked if we get internet out here. I said, yes, I model the Bronze Age, I don't live in it.

You know if he shows up at RCon this year, this is gonna be stuck in my head if I see him.

Sadly, that's looking less and less likely this year, unless some sort of big bonus gets paid out, or my tax return is way bigger than I expect it to be.  Plus I may need all the time off to drive up to WA to visit our son in Bremorton this summer.

While I love my vacation time, I really hate the days before and after them.  Beforehand there is always the stress of getting things done that have to be done before I leave, and afterwards there is always the catch up on things no one else will/can do while I'm gone.  It was only two days off this time - Fri and Mon, but even that was stressful.  On Thursday before I left, it was so bad I wasn't sure I was going to come back. Today really hasn't been that bad in the grand scheme of things, but most of the sutff I'm dealing with today is making me want to tell the customers "Just shut the broccoli up and go the broccoli away."

Spent the weekend in Kansas City for our anniversary, and had a fun, if not overly exciting time.  Didn't get to visit any game stores, but did get to visit Midwest Model Railroad supplies, and picked up a bunch of stuff for my first T-Trak module.  For those who don't know, T-Track is a standard system of N scale modules that people can make separately, then hook up together with other module builders at events and shows.

My first module is something I've wanted to do for a long time - it's going to be part of a military base where I use CAV models as the military equipment.  I think I'm going to be using Adon Chieftains for this first module, while the next one will use an actual CAV model.

"Hey all, long time no chew the fat. I hope everyone is doing the best they can.

Life has been throwing poo at me for a while. While I am mostly covered in it, I am still treading on, kinda have to. I have quite a lot on my plate, but looking to put even more. I just put feelers out for another PbP, this will make three, if it happens. Work has settled down, so I do think three will be doable for me. Anyways it has been another year, same old stuff. "

Took a bit to figure out Play by Post. For PbP the first thought was lead and potassium, until the 20 year old Chem classes kicked in and I remembered potassium was K. Which led to racking my brain until phosphorus popped up, and, doubting myself, checking Google. Lead phosphorus would be PbP. Not that that's actually a thing.  There might be some sort of lead phosphate I suppose.

My apologies for the confusion. I feel that confusion on most days. Lead Phosphate... sticks in my head for some reason. I will have to look it up.

Hope things will get better for you!

Things are slowly getting better. I have today off then back to close tomorrow night, then the next two off, followed by working both days of the weekend.

My World 23 is coming along slowly as well. I have thoughts and i write them down, to maybe expand on at a later date or discard. Going through a lot of mu older ideas and either tossing them out or reworking them. I have all of my ideas written down in a notebook, but also am duplicating them in a text file.

That sounds pretty cool!

My current "model" railroad endeavors are in 1:1 scale.

The "Great Roundhouse in the Closet" still contains all my treasures for my "dream layout" of the
Virginia and Truckee RR.

In the interim, I've made contact with a member of a local model railroad group.

You may have heard a *SMACK!*

That was me face palming.

An urban fantasy I was reading had someone attempt to poison the werewolf protagonist with wolfbane, while eating the same meal... because 'wolfbane is harmless to humans'...

Uhm, no, really... it isn't.... ::o:

Dear gods - this is something that you can find on Wikipedia.... (I highly recommend a book like Deadly Doses: A Writer's Guide to Poisons....)

Ah reminds me of the time I went to do some groceries.

Now you see my Girl made a little list so I went to get all of it.

However....

She works in home care mostly with the elderly.

So she had written down the name of a client on that same list as a reminder for herself at the time.

Funny thing..

The name of that client translates to Wolfbane in Dutch and so I found myself in a flower shop asking for it...

I got some strange looks.

Went to a large Garden Centre, asked again.

Still oblivious to what I was actually asking for,

I got home asked my girl and then we had a laugh.

I swear, if she ever wants to poison me she could just send me to get the stuff for her...

OH BOY. I've got a rant for y'all. Spoiler'd for length. I'll attempt to not have expletives.

Spoiler

SO. I got my new laptop (what I'm using currently) in November. It had issues pop up within a few days. Mostly not waking properly after having been closed for an extended period of time.

Over time things got annoying. Windows would randomly not start properly forcing me to restart the computer again. On several other, annoyingly frequent (which in this case is at all), occasions it would blue screen on startup. This is the only time it blue screens. And the last few days it's randomly froze and I have had to force restart it.

I got fed up with it yesterday. I contacted tech support and HO BOY was this a mistake (maybe). I did the chat option because I hate talking on the phone and it's easier for me to process written things rather than spoken things. The person had me do a few things which came up with nothing. Eventually, they said they couldn't help me. BUT the paid tech support could! So, since I'm so fed up with the problems with this brand new computer we pay the 99$ for better tech support.

This was probably a huge mistake. I was given a 2 hour window for someone to call. I got the last slot of the day. First I couldn't figure out if it was from 6pm-8pm or 8pm-10pm because of time zones. (Turns out it was 6-8) I got the order in like 30 minutes to 6. They claim a "if we can't fix it you don't pay guarantee.

She called right after 6 and I was like okay at least she's on time. It was hard to hear/understand her because it was so loud wherever she was. She ended up muting herself when she wasn't actively talking to me. It was so bad. After some confusion of how to get to the remote access site (I'm pretty sure the site that she used is not open to the public)I let her have remote access to the laptop, okay no problem there. The big problem is that she did everything I'd already been doing for 2 days before I contacted anyone.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Updating Drivers
  • Running short and long diagnostics in BOTH the support website and desktop program.
  • Updating my BIOS, which I literally did the day before (had she paid closer attention she would have noticed it was already the same iteration.)

So after an hour on the phone she tells me to "monitor it for a day". And she'll call me back tomorrow (today, Tuesday). I watch the computer, it's still having issues. She calls back today (Tuesday). I tell her I’m still having issues (it has frozen twice today since she called making me do a force restart). She tells me to make a backup of my stuff and that tomorrow(Wednesday) we’re going to do a factory reset. FML. And then she says she’ll call back again tomorrow to walk me through it. Like I don’t already know how to do that.

So I spent a while this evening writing down things that I need for setting it back up. I am worried that this isn’t going to help and they are going to want us to send it in to repair or exchange. I don’t want either of those things. Because if this doesn’t fix it,I want my 1K$ back so I can buy a laptop from someone else.

I do feel bad though MIL had us buy her a laptop to travel with when she goes to visit my SIL and family. I just went ahead and ordered her a medium end laptop with my Dell account. So crossing my fingers nothing happens with that.

On Thursday we get to go to MILs to set up the laptop for her that should be here tomorrow. I’m bringing this laptop with me and will start downloading games and stuff because our internet at home is utter broccoli.

I’ve got more to say but I hit a button and the forums lost 99% of what I had written and am frustrated by that.

So off to bed for me. Hope y’all have had a better week than I have. I am in much need of the massage I have reserved for on Thursday.

Will it be a single, a double, a corner, an end cap?  How much space are you able to devote to the base?
