Wave to the asteroid as it goes by.

<runs after 'asteroid' yelling, "Wait for me! I'm right here! Wait for me!">

We're getting a close pass from what is described as a delivery van size asteroid tonight.

Estimated circa 2200 miles at closest approach.

The thing was only discovered last year.

Which raises the question, what other stuff is out there that's going to give us a "close shave" that hasn't been discovered yet.

Your (TV?) news source was much more coherent than mine. Mine showed a graphic of the orbital trajectories of Earth Moon and Asteroid that clearly showed the space rock getting its orbit severely bent by Earth’s gravity well but escaping. Meanwhile the talking dunderheads were rattling on about it burning up in the atmosphere

They had no clue they were describing two very different events.

yeah, that video of it in action looks suspiciously stop motion.  they can do all kinds of magic with that that doesn't even require fancy image rendering or photo editing....

It's basically a gallium alloy that is magnetic. They move it with strong magnetic pulls, melt it with inducted current, then it cools back down to reshape - the example with grabbing the body from the stomach makes sense except for the 86 degree melting point. The lego man reforming after it cools seems impossible without a mold, I don't feel like we can get that sharp of a detail with magnetic fields....

So apparently my town is going to be featured in a TV Mini series.  They've been in town the last few days filming:

We've had filming of The Last of Us happen here for a while.  They made that boring part of downtown actually look decent, so I've heard...

Is that the 'green' one I have been hearing about in all the Mordheim circles?

Nah, the green one is a comet. So a ball of ice, although green means oxygen ion tail. The asteroid one is probably a rocky ball.

Need to get the telescope out and see that. It’s 50k years to the next appearance.

The Canadian I had the issue with the last two days? the one that didn't want to deal with "the American", and tried to throw me under the bus?   He's pulling the same crap on the Service Manager.

I think the Service Manager is about to tell him he'll have to buy a whole new unit - which cost around $15 grand and up, depending on options.
