Today’s subject is a GE LED flood bulb for the kitchen. Estimated life: 22.3 years! Actual life: almost 8! Home Depot had one brand of bulbs this weekend. Ecosmart brand. We will see how long those last, as they feel like very cheap plastic. Will let you know in two years or so, as I think they have an estimated life of 11 years. The estimated life is only if you don't use them... 😉 I've had mixed results from Ecosmart and it seems to be bulb to bulb... a few died in 6 months and others are still going strong 3+ years of very regular use. they're much much cheaper than the other brands though, which don't seem to last a lot longer, so at least it costs less to be dissapointed.. 6

As long as the wind isn't too strong we BBQ all year round. Although I will admit that temp is about where I normally start cooking indoors. I was a bit sad when I learned my new smoker won't work at lower than -15 C. The auger for dribbling pellets seizes up then. I live in the warm south where it's currently only -20 C. Good to know, as I am currently saving up for a smoker. I probably won't run it much below that, but I want bacon, and brisket, and turkey, and ham.

The hot asphalt would melt the wax crayons and it would look like we were doing oil paintings on the street instead of crayon drawings... kristof65
Ughh. Today so far I have encountered: - the service manager being a snot about a ticket that was assigned to me and for which I asked engineering a reasonable question. - a customer demanding higher level passwords to his system because he thinks that will let his system do things it isn't capable of doing. - a distributor demanding I remotely check & change a setting that is not remotely accessible. - and in a shocking twist, several customers being perfectly reasonable and appreciative. Including the one the service manager is being a snot about. 1 3
Green Eyed Monsty
RE: "Higher Level Passwords": Give them a digital lollipop, for a fee of course, and let them discover for themselves that what they want isn't congruent with reality. The Distributor: Inform him you will be happy to do the "remote changes" but that it will require you being in close enough proximity to the equipment to make the necessary changes with the appropriate "remote access tools" which consist of shish kebab skewers and mechanics forceps. Tell him you will need his credit card info for proper routing of the necessary transportation involved to access the input consoles for this particular configuration. If the Service Manager continues to be a snot, make arrangements for an anonymous delivery of a box of Depends. GEM

Will save time all around, and maybe, just maybe, the guy will get the message. GEM Problem is that the dispatcher often doesn't have a chance to answer the phone, and is dispatching to us based on Voice mails. 52 minutes ago, Green Eyed Monsty said: RE: "Higher Level Passwords": Give them a digital lollipop, for a fee of course, and let them discover for themselves that what they want isn't congruent with reality. GEM I told the guy the risks of having the higher level passwords, and then said I'd give him the password, as soon as he acknowledged that it was at his own risk, and that any problems that resulted would be billed at our standard service rate. He politely declined. The distributor is ticking me off. It's a tech from another distributor who partnered with a car wash operator to create a new distributorship a little while back. The only reason we went along with it is because the new company met our requirements of purchasing X number of new systems AND paid 100% up front, something we figured they wouldn't be able to do. The tech knows what he's doing, but is now overworked, and his partner/boss (not sure which) reaches out to have us do things. I've shut him down several times already, saying "that is the responsibility of a distributor, if you cannot live up to your end of the distributorship contract, perhaps we should revisit it?" He keeps thinking they should get special treatment because they're new, but I'm not asking them to do anything that the other distributor in the area doesn't do. The other distributor is already pissed off - he lost a tech and several customers, I'm not going to compound it by giving the new guy special treatment. I'm getting used to the service manager being a snot, but the Depends idea sounds awesome. In other news, I was just sent this photo: 3 8

Medium Duty Truck Chassis with a service body including what looks to be a crane/bucket lift. I took a closer look at the pic and there is a ladder from the back of the cab to the top of the cab which strongly suggests a bucket lift. In any case, the boom has punched through the top of the driveway into the wash bay. Somebody is going to be paying a very expensive repair bill, both to the building and the truck. GEM Look at it closer - I just realized that's an auger on the other side of the boom. So not a bucket truck - a digger truck. Agreed that someone has an expensive repair bill - and I wonder if the driver will be losing their job? 5
