I just read that Paizo is going to drop PaizoCon back to online only in 2023. They say it's due to health reasons, but also they want to make PCon, accessible to everyone. I'm wondering also if this is due to company isn't as popular aka profitable as it once was. I remember the year I had planned to go to PCon, even with it being on Memorial Weekend (funny they say accessible to all, but what about people that work or already have committed plans for that weekend???), then I ended up cancelling them. I've not thought about attending since that year.

Hopefully, Reaper doesn't go back to Online Con, just not a convention if you ask me, more or less just a bunch of videos with people jabberin on about things.

Customer:  I have half a dozen units where not all the keys are working. I need replacement parts.

Me: <Sends quote for 6 replacement keypads> OK, that will be approx $800 and we can ship today.

Customer: NO, I want the whole replacement faceplate with board, card reader and everything.

Me: <revises quote, sends it> OK, that will be approx $12,000 and will take 8-14 weeks.

That's just a bit different in price, wow.  Kind of surprised they didn't start off with all that info

I agree. the whole thing that's special (to me, anyway) about Reapercon is meeting people. Live and in person.

Hoo boy. Got to hotel and got around to checking my email. Looks like I will be requested to stay at least four more days. They did this while I was in thr air! Uh, and it is less than a week before even if I wasn’t out here already.

Gonna run out of clothes.

It's basically the equivalent of buying a new desktop PC just because a couple of keys on your USB keyboard stop working.

Based on the guy's initial emails, it sounds like all they need is replacement keypads - they're a known wear item - I sent him the quote for that, along with some other questions to make sure that's all he needed, and he got mad and responded with "I just want to replace the whole unit!"  Haven't heard back from him since I sent the $12k quote.

Even if all half dozen of the units do need more than a keypad, it would still be cheaper for him to order maybe one full unit, a few circuit boards, a few keypads and other parts.  Heck, I just realized that more than likely, the cost of parts plus flying me out to his site to troubleshoot and repair would be cheaper than what he's asking for.

But oh well - this is one of the sale's guy's direct customers, and he's being copied on all the emails.  My defense is "I just quoted what your customer asked for"

Time to expense some wardrobe to your employer?

OMG. I really don't know what this guy is doing - he just added some more to the order, bumping it up to $14k and said "please ship asap", while completely ignoring the portion of the quote that says it has to be prepaid.

Glad I'm done for the day - I sent him the updated quote and told him to either provide a credit card or call the accounting department to make payment arrangements.   I half suspect I'll come in tomorrow and have the sales guy yelling at me for telling him to prepay.

I think it's because for 3/4 of N America a trip to the Pacific NW is not affordable or accessible.   With Reapercon, at least people from the midwest, southwest and southeast can get there in under a day.

And not even the people you want to take classes from, because many of the more talented teachers seem to feel their content is exclusive, and don't want it to be free on youtube.

Yup.  And having personal interaction with a teacher who can SEE what you're doing.

I can see that also being the case as well. Thou, Paizo did scale back their GenCon presence as well. So who knows. I for one hope that Paizo can still be a very successful company. They do some things that I kinda roll my eyes at & have over the course of enjoying their products, but I'd hate to see them go under.

I unpurpled that. It would be a legitimate expense, or I find a laundromat.

Check if your hotel has laundry service through the Concierge.

Send stuff out and have it billed to your room.

With the schedule you have stated they expect you to work paying for laundry service for a stay extended while you were already airborne is legitimate and reasonable.  Expecting you to "do laundry" on your already limited down time isn't.
