Script kddlies on the phone always think they know more than the field techs, which is generally an erroneous assumption. The script kiddies used to have a notebook to read from, now it's generally a screen with the same words. Good Luck with getting your problem fixed. In our neck of the woods we are on the far end of the trunk line that serves the Mega Industrial Park just east of Reno so our service comes off of the Main Transcontinental Trunk at that point and is serviced by the Reno Office, instead of the much smaller office in Carson City. Found out two weeks age Microsoft has purchased 272 Acres of land just over the hill from us in Silver Springs for some new project. That means the trunk line capacity to very near us is going to be receiving a major expansion of capacity in the not too distant future. Also means a bunch more people moving into the area. Good thing we are on the side of Hwy 50 where city block sized parcels are the norm, and oversize lots [1.1 acres] are the minimum. I swear when they used to broadcast elevator music in the store, I heard "Enter Sandman". Now days it's a Musak satellite system that brings whatever in. Thou, I will admit on load nights I tend to have both of my earbuds in, or 1 when the store is open. Non-load nights I'll crank my phone up.

Moderator Chaoswolf Posted February 16 Author Moderator Share Posted February 16 I tend to hear a lot of old 80's rock in my store. I think that's pretty cool. Right up until there's a break in the music and then an ad for classic rock. You kids get off my lawn!!! 5

Asking for a friend: How does the T2S do when —said friend— swears like a sailor at the balky internet, or the kludgey interface, or just life in general?? Does it have an extensive pirate vocabulary? So had to test the pirate vocabulary capability. Obviously can’t post it here because it would just convert to “elf elfity elf elfing elf elf elfing elf elf”. And it did remarkably well! It did get a bit confused and put “you’re” instead of “they’re” as it was transcribing in real time. But after I hit end it thought for a second and changed it to what I actually said. So full confidence. and I just realize that I’m sitting there tap tap in the tap, tap on the keyboard and not using the text to speech function. So I just wrote that above with the text to speech and I’m going to leave it as is. But I was also going to say that I have had good luck with my Internet it even being Comcast we were promised some minimum speed and I usually get about 50% better than that And they’ve already always been able to fix whatever problem I’ve had fairly quickly, so kudos to Comcast I suppose . I have left all of the transcription errors in the above so you can see if it’s worth doing or not. I think I did have to put in the carriage returns and space the paragraphs out but that’s not a big deal. But just proofreading it, I’ve noticed it didn’t put in the periods for the end of the sentences. That’s kind of a pain, but if I pause between sentences, it adds the period automatically. Edited February 16 by Pegazus Misspoke, but it transcribed correctly then I had to fix it
kristof65
I hate snow days! Wife doesn't have to go to work, kid doesn't have to go to school, but I still have to work! It's not fair! 12 hours ago, Green Eyed Monsty said: Script kddlies on the phone always think they know more than the field techs, which is generally an erroneous assumption. The script kiddies used to have a notebook to read from, now it's generally a screen with the same words. Screens and notebooks will be replaced by AI soon enough. I've done tech support long enough that I completely understand why scripts work, and why script kiddies can get big heads from them. Why? Because so many tech support calls are for elfing stupid things. Why waste time and money properly paying a qualified tech with real troubleshooting skills when you can develop a script that can handle over 50% of your calls and hand it to a lower wage person. That way your real techs end up with the actual problems. The big issue is that at a lot of places, the same or similar metrics are used to evaluate the performance of the techs & the script kiddies - how many tickets closed. Script kiddies have the advantage because so many of their tickets are easy to close. As those script kiddies are replaced with even lower expense AI, I wonder if it will get easier or harder to get past them to get problems resolved? My cynicism tells me harder, but I just had a recent experience with Amazon that was positive. I had to contact them to get a refund issued over a missing package - I steeled myself up for a real fight over it like I had to do last time when I dealt with a person, but the AI handled it very swiftly. 6

TGP
What kind of messed up city layout has two numbered streets crossing at an intersection..? (5th should be parallel to 56th !??)
TGP
New York, NY is apparently the answer. 56th and 5th is —the location of Trump tower— so does that make the cartoon a political comment of some sort? 1
SparrowMarie
I've been quietly lurking for a little bit. There's not a whole lot going on right now. I'm getting weather induced migraines and trying to do vacation research for our cruise in June. Husband and I went out to lunch on Sunday for Valentine's Day. I was pretty bummed when I found out it was still brunch hours (nothing listed on the website about this) which was especially annoying since it was almost 2 in the afternoon. But they did have a few lunch items on the menu including what I have gotten there in the past. We were going to go to the game store after but there was no parking and I was in heels and didn't want to have to walk the half-ish block both ways from the grocery store parking lot next to it. Overall it was nice even though plans did not go as planned. We are house sitting for in-laws again because they went back to Maryland to help my SIL get a fence installed because that's become a whole lot of drama in itself that I am not getting into.
