Tricky.

If they don't have precise temperature control the alcohol will freeze and then when it thaws it's all going to be in one shot.

The Vikings used to make  something called "Winter Mead" where they would set mead out to freeze and then drain off the still liquid alcohol.  A primitive form of distillation.

Corned Beef and Cabbage  here, with all the trimmings, including a piper

This year I learned that Corned Beef has nothing to do with:

Can you stand the taste of Heineken?

I tried this stuff a few months back. It was pretty good. Had some with pizza. It tasted like beer and pizza. But no alcohol.

Well, I got my start time mixed up so I came into the Winterhawks vs hated Seattle game during the 1st intermission tonight. Being this is the game I would have been at, had my actual vacation plans went through, I definitely want to at least hear the game. It was 0 to 0 & it was a tight game according to the radio guys. Now tonight is a special Oregon Hockey night + they retired/raised Cam Neely's number, so I totally understand the priority of this. As they went back to the action in the 2nd period, the 'birds scored a quick goal to make it 1-0. After that the radio guys talked to Cam while the game was going on.

Obviously, you can't see the action going on, so all you get to hear in Cam talking about his time in Portland, some of it when he was with Boston (the whole Vancouver riots due to the Stanley Cup finals they had) & what he's been doing since, etc etc. Again his night, but again we can't see the action, so all we hear is whistles & whenever something came up like a power play or something. As Cam was leaving the broadcast booth, Seattle put anther one into the goal, to make it 2-0. I gave up listening, more frustrated with Portland, just falling apart these last few weeks & such. I doubt they'll make a come back in the 3rd period, as they just can't generate anything right now. no goaltending - NOTHING! They better figure something out or in a couple weeks, they'll be sitting at home, wonder what the hell happen to us as the WHL playoffs begin at the end of the month.

Tbh, I'm unhappy that I'm not in Portland, at this game, but I'm happy that I'm not, being it would have been my first live action hockey game + the whole buying tickets thing.....

I need to go clean some prints.

Went to hear Postmodern Jukebox tonight.

Great concert, but entirely new faces except for Scott Bradlee.

On a different note - I dreamed that I was running Fallout: Great Lakes - the PCs were in a pigboat, for some reason. (The inside of which looked just plain nasty.)

Pirates were definitely involved..... But I'm not sure if it was raiders or the PCs.....

The Auld Grump - I saw one of the last remaining pigboats, when it was taken through the canals in Cambridge Mass.. Sadly, in spite of a successful fundraiser, the ship was scrapped.

I'm not sure that I've had it.  I'm not exactly a connoisseur, so as long as it's not horrible  I'm sure it would be fine. There are only a few brands that I simply despise...Coors happens to be one of them.

The history of Great Lakes whaleboats is very interesting.

“Pigboat”, when referencing something that sails the seas, is more likely to be a reference to an early submarine. Due to the smell, the narsty (Buglips approved) stank, that resulted from being submerged a long while. This is not-a-thing for current nuclear subs which do a fine job of scrubbing their air and generating nice clean oxygen from seawater even when submerged. But those early boats relied on batteries for submerged power. There was not much juice to spare to spend on air cleaning and the atmosphere in them would become foul the longer they were submerged.

Both pigboat and whaleboat can mean other things in nautical parlance. Context is everything with these words.

Heineken is a Dutch brand.

Now I'm trying to stay away from politics, but lets just say there is a lot of controversion against our heineken brand ( one of the largest beer brewers in the Netherlands) because they won't comply to sanctions against Russia eventhough they promised they would.

They just dumped dozens of new brands there to sell beer. Several bars have now refused to sell their brands because of this,

As a Warrant Officer of the Royal Netherlands Air Force I find their way of doing business to make me puke.

They make a profit of the war by not abiding to EU sanctions.

It's up to everyone to decide how to handle this.

I will not discuss it, let's not go into that.

Just wanted to state the facts of this company's shady dealing.

Besides Heineken they also have these brands among others:

  • Amstel,
  • Sol
  • Desperados
  • Almaza
  • Bira Moretti
  • Star
  • Murphy's
  • Zywiec,
  • Cruzcampo,
  • Strong Bowgold (cider)
  • Affligem
  • Brand,
  • Lagunitas
  • Texels
  • Apple Bandit ( cider)
  • Oedipius,

Besides this....Heineken is not the best beer we offer, despite it being a large company.

If you want to taste a good Dutch beer go for Hertog Jan or Grolsch.

Better yet go for a Belgium Trappist like Westmalle, Chimay, Westvleteren, Orval and Rochefort.

Also Grimbergen is a good beer.

Enjoy...
