My boss thinks he wants to turn the third bay back into a car wash for the public. We are selling the old shop, and the guys need somewhere to wash their trucks, so I get turning it back into a wash bay versus the car park it is now. But I don't think the hassle is worth it.

My grandpa used to have the car wash/laundromat in my hometown. He couldn't get a wand to work, so he took it apart. Inside was a tiny, shrunken pair of men's underpants. He never did figure out how they got in there in the first place. I have a feeling he never told me half of what went on there...

Let him know that with the chip & tap requirement for credit cards, that a single bay is going to be VERY expensive if he wants to take credit cards in the bay.

I've heard lots of stories about weird things going on at car washes.  The more risque and bizarre stories seem to be going away with the rise of camera systems being installed at them, though.

You can tell him you know a guy in the industry!

@kristof65

TBH, I'd rather not anyone here buy the equipment I work on.  Just because I wouldn't feel as free to rant.

So, if we take up a collection…

I’m kidding of course, but turning the above purple would ruin the humor. I rather enjoy your rants. Please continue.

Well, maybe. It’d be better for you for sure if you didn’t have anything to rant about, as things were going so smoothly as to not be a hassle. But we can all laugh at that silly notion.

Meanwhile, I am stuck in spring design hell. Have a spring that is too big for the space and causing issues. But make the spring with less coils and the spring increases force. Not a problem, I needed more. Except now the spring would break because it has too much power. Can’t change material as the other choices are weaker. Now I get to dance with the spreadsheets, making the springs tighter or smaller wire or … something. Thus the hell.

I'm more open about some things on a forum full of strangers than I am with the people around me. That way I don't have to worry about adding to the drama. I have a cousin who's one of my closest friends and we occasionally get together for b***h days. We help each other out some but have no business conflicts and each have to deal with a different group of annoying relatives. It's good to have someone you can vent on without worrying about repercussions.

Just a thought.

If it is a helical spring is it possible to use a double coil design?

 Y'know, I used to wonder why companies make it so hard for people to apply for jobs - I already sent you my resume, now I have to retype the whole <bleep>ing thing in by hand??? - but now I've figured it out: It's a test to see how badly you need the job... If you're willing to go through all that crap to get a job, they can be sure that you're willing to put up with more crap once you get it... 🤬

It’s nearly like that already with two springs side by side, with a left and a right. So it would simply connect the arms that are side by side already. It’s not a bad suggestion as it would be easier to assemble, and I can’t see it costing that much more than the current two springs together. Maybe even less when you add in logistics of tracking two parts. But it still appears that the solution will be a larger outer diameter which means it won’t fit. Already using a super strong spring steel so the other materials are lower yield strength. The design cycles continue.
