In the Middle Ages was a lump of coal a bad thing?  You could set it in your stove, if you had a stove, and it would burn, and keep you warm…

Well, as an alternative to being thrashed with a bundle of switches or being stuffed into a basket and carried to who knows what fate, then sure, it's a good thing.

Well there's something that put me in a good mood this morning. 😄

One of my old gaming buddies from way back managed to reach me through email. We haven't seen each other since pre-COVID, particularly ever since my mother moved to another town, I haven't had any real occasion to go back. But my old group is planning a gathering during the holidays, I'll have plenty of free time and the driving distance isn't unreasonable. So I certainly do want to be there to see everyone. 🎅

I'm talking about guys I gamed with from the mid-90s up until 2010 when I moved away, and the host is a childhood friend I've known for over 40 years. So yeah, I'm excited.

Don't forget lady krampus.  Actual folklore figure, punishes naughty men.  Has a whip.

Uh.. hm.. but.. uh..  nah, won’t go there. Thinking it. Won’t write it.

And all the Krampus talk about kidnapping children got me thinking on how Santa gets his elves. Might not be that jolly of a story.

Then you probably should not image search Lady Krampus Costume. When you are bored waiting around watching the glue cure. I bet that is a bad idea. Probably.

Krampus adventure is pretty straight forward, big K snatches the wrong children & the patreon hits the parry to get them back.  Party heads to the Dark Forest, a place devoid of heat & eternal night. Pretty cool in game stuff as well: teleportation magic is wonky & any time anyone's uses anything to change a die roll (say inspiration or even halfling luck) they fall under the Naughty rule (in game chart of bad things).

Party explores the HeroicMap map & will/might encounter dark elves (not drow), a shadow troll, wolves with antlers, a dire version as well + of course Krampus himself,  who wants to fight the heroes. He admires the whole heroes fight bad guy,  save the day, but he wants to fight.  If the PCs try to bargain, he'll go over their history in his realm & that'll determine if he sits down & chats.

I think if I run this one I may just use numbered bases,  along with a Krampus miniature, as I'm not sure I can find some of the minis needed. We shall see.

It's funny you say that as it says if the party opens the door to his lair without the proper way,  loud heavy metal music begins blaring into the village, alerting everyone.  🤘

I am intrigued, do you think it could be run in a 3 hour session?

Well that's classified WOOF information, not something to share with the leader of R.I.B.B.I.T. now would it?

Oh, that's just Jimmy being Jimmy.  Surprised you asked about the antlers and not the stilt legs.  Those are also normal, Jimmy's a maned wolf.

How will I know which minis to order for parts?

I'm kinda hoping it does as we generally run from 6 pm to around 930 pm as my FLGS closes at 10 pm. The adventure does call for a stealth approach but it also does say if the party wants to go in "guns blazing" by all means let em. The village/Dark Elves section I think might take the longest as it does have quite a few encounters if it goes wrong for the party + combat does take up the most time. The encounters with the shadow troll can be quick, it all depends on how the PC approach. the dire wolf-thing is probably the same. Krampus has some epic stats, so he'll be a chore when it comes to combat. So I guess it all depends on your group.

Right now you can get both the adventure & HeroicMap bundle for like 8 bucks on drivethrurpg. If anything, something you can always run when you have more time.

Wolves With Antlers intrigue me.  Where is this from?

It's a creature in the adventure "Taken" by CrashGem (search on drivethrurpg). The actual name of it is "Hornfang". The adventure does have allot of German language names & such, so probably pulled from German myths? They are the pets/animals of the dark elves (again not Drow) with one of the Dark Elves being a trainer/keeper of them.

Are these antlered wolves going to be Antlered Dire Wolves?

>> ponders moose-sized wolf with moose antlers <<

Actually there is one in the adventure, it's Krampus's pet/guard. Umarmungen (which oddly is German for hug.....). Once again, depending on the party, he can be a pig pushover or a hostile.
