@Green Eyed Monsty One of our local model railroad club members was posting pictures from your train museum in our FB group from his visit there today.  Another one commented they'll be there in a couple of weeks.

In other news, I'm being a jerk

Site owner asked their distributor to ask us to clear the internal blacklist from their POS system.  The blacklist is an internal database that records problem credit card numbers so that those particular cards won't be accepted by the system.  Cards should only end up on the black list if for some reason they passed pre-approval, but the transaction was declined when we went to finalize the transaction.

Turns out that this site owner is such a PITA that no one has been looking into why so many cards are ending up on his internal blacklist, and have just been doing the two minute "fix" so as to not deal with him.

I decided to poke around and see if I could figure out why so many cards kept ending up on the blacklist, and found a simple problem.  Each device on our network should have a unique node address, but it appears that half of his bays are sharing node addresses.  For that, and because the site hasn't upgraded their software in 10 year, this is causing an issue where cards aren't getting properly charged, and the old software is trying to transmit $0 transactions to the clearing house, causing the transactions to be declined, and the decline is causing the cards to be put on the blacklist.

There are several ways to fix this, the easiest being just to go through and make sure that the all of the devices are set to the correct node address.

Anyway, I'm being a jerk because I'm refusing to clear the blacklist until a true fix is applied.    I figure that this is the only way to force the guy to actually fix the problem rather than just apply the work around again.  The distributor says he's not happy with me, despite the fact that correctly fixing the issue will literally stop him from giving away free washes.

National Railway and Locomoitive Historical Society along with a Southern Pacific interest group and another large national RR Interest Organization are having a big [over 1000 registered attendees] Convention in Sparks, Nevada - just east of Reno.  Sparks used to be a Division Point for the SP with major shop facilities for both regular engines and the fleet of Helper Engines for the Sierra Nevada Range.  Still very busy since the Union Pacific took over as it's the modernized version of the original Transcontinental Railroad.

NR&LHS booked a Special Event for yesterday for circa 100 attendees.  Since the Museum is normally closed on Tuesday and Wednesday they had the place all to themselves for this special steam up and tour.

Drove by on the way out of town for our trip to Modesto and they had a Full Train just pulling out of Wabuska Station as we drove by on South Carson Blvd.  And yes, it's the original station from Wabuska, Nevada, very carefully moved from the north end of the Mason Valley to the museum site in Carson City.

We made it to Modesto, Ca and back in one piece but my nerves are thoroughly frazzled from dealing with California Drivers and California Crowding after having become used to "Carson Time" [which is about 10 minutes less laid back than "Tahoe Time" and much less in a hurry than "Reno Time".  My nerves feel like that electrical cable with the wires all frayed out, ends melted, and smoke curling from the top of the "bouquet".

On your "problem child for today", stand your ground. The guy is just going to put off doing the right thing until the system no longer functions and his wallet starts screaming at him.  Better he should feel the pain ~now~ than you have to continue to feel the pain from having to deal with his sloth.

Speaking of electrical cables, I count at least 8 cases of "OOPS!" in this core sample.

Somebody is going to have some 'splainin'

To do, just before they write a whacking big check.

Interesting that the fiber optic tubing is yellow on the inside.  Those are usually solid single color plastic.

Wonder what they were digging for.

Looks like a Core Sample.

With two levels of wire/cable and running at approximately 90 degrees, why in the world didn't whoever was doing the coring call for a locating service to do a survey of the area?

It's not like they were out in some trackless waste where the probability of hitting something valuable/expensive to replace wasn't likely.

Our near 5 acre lot was surveyed before a single scoop of earth was moved and the area had already clearly marked locating stakes and flags for the utility right of way underground.  All the existing markings were verified and new stakes and flags planted to confirm everything.  And that's "out in the country" where low density construction happens.

We had the electric line undergrounded even though everything in the area is running on poles.  Had we decided to continue with aerial electric line and a drop we would have had to pay for at least two and probably three utility poles to be set.  And, the poles would not have followed the existing fence line on that side of the property as whoever put it in started near the surveyed corner and then wandered off by about 10 degrees so we've got about ten feet of additional space on our side of the fence by the time you get to where we had the house planted. So instead, they installed two pull boxes along the route of the raceway the electric lines were run through.  That got everything to our pump house for the well where they set the main disconnect and meter as well as the breaker for the well, then they ran everything underground in a trench, both electric and water, to the pad for the house and set another disconnect panel right next to the house.  We have yet another disconnect on the main breaker panel in our combination pantry/utility/laundry room.

When they back filled the trench I followed along with bricks and put down a brick about every 15 feet over where the lines were buried.  Sub-Contractor wanted to know what the bricks were for, I responded "So I know where things are buried".

I sleep better just knowing I can identify plus or minus a foot exactly where stuff as important as main water line and power line are located.

There are at least two Tarzan movies where Jane isn't "almost" naked.

One is older than I am, the other is older than Grump.

And Betty Boop is topless in the first Popeye.

That's why you get a large dog bed, the cats will sleep on it while the dog is forced to be in the smaller bed. It happens.

Nah, we're gonna need to get a large dog bed for US to sleep in, the animals have all already staked out our bed.

For a moment, I thought it was an angry mimic who bit off some cables.

Anyway, it looks like someone had to drill into some concrete somewhere.

TGIF

The work week is almost over, now to deal with my mother in law's visit, and trying to squeeze in replacing the FEP on my resin printer so I can get back to printing parts for a terrain build.
