Today was Anne's last day for RTB Pro Tips for this week.  She is planning to be back Monday, after going on a trip to work with and evaluate puppies.  They weren't sure if there would be a stream on Monday, which is Memorial Day.

Aha! We're getting somewhere.  Found out that the company they hired to do the changes is a small operation, that the senior tech that did the actual changes went on vacation until tomorrow, and nobody at the company wants to touch his work lest they make things worse.

If that is their internal policy, I’m thinking it should be yours also! Don’t touch someone else’s work.

It is also an instance where Rule 45 needs to be applied to that senior tech.

Rule 45

Clean up the mess that you make.

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone.  I'm off for a few days of travel, canoeing, and touristy things. Whatever your plans are, stay safe.

Being a National Holiday, the company will be closed for the day.  Take that into account if you're ordering or trying to reach customer service.

Whooo, finally got confirmation about all the beaurocratic paperwork schtuff is not only done, but confirmed, which helps me relax a fair bit to say the least, doubly so because I can finally reutnr to work, yay!

I miss my five days a week of working... The activity does a decent amount for my mental health, to say the least.

Maybe soup was what they were trying for 4000 years ago when they invented beer.

That's actually landing gear.

The car has wings.

I see it now. Those could be wings. It also better explains the goggles, headgear, and radio headsets both ladies are wearing.

Which begs the question: “if this is the future! where is my flying car !!

Right next to everybody else's.

"20 years from now", which is what they have been saying for circa 70 years now.

I have concluded anytime somebody uses "20 years" as a measurement of when something is going to happen, they haven't a clue.

Idoknow.

I do know I have been observing the "20 years" "prediction" for circa 50 years as an adult, and I have yet to see one of these "predictions"pan out in anything close to the guesstimated time.

Case in point; practical and Commercial Scale Fusion Reactors.  The physics and the development of the necessary engineering technologies to contain a miniscule chunk of Star Matter and use it as a handy power source have proven to be more complex and difficult than first estimated, and the research into the matter kept on discovering more and more complex problems for decades.  We are at the point where a fusion reaction may be sustained for a fraction of a second, and this is at a laboratory scale using many millions of dollars of highly technical equipment.

Oh that is definitely my policy, especially when it comes to customer owned networks.  It does, however, cause friction with customers who can't/won't understand.

Still 20 years from landing someone on Mars, too. Started my career on that. Been 27 years now.

Then made the move to Colorado because “Mars, gonna go”. Then not. Been 16 years from then.

Now they awarded a lunar lander that eventually, maybe, will provide experience for someone to go to Mars. In, like, 10-15 (read as 20) years. Guess what job I ain’t even going to apply to?

I do NOT want my entire career to have been almost entirely “going to Mars, George, we going to Mars”. Feels like a Warner Bros cartoon to keep chasing that.

If it wasn't a joke phobia, maybe.

I prefer dodecaphobia:

A 12 letter word which is the fear of the number 12 — this might explain why the d12 is the least used dice type in RPGs.

I like to trot out triskaidekaphobia. Not many people know the name, even if they know of the phobia.
