Randomness: the 18th sequel

So we got some good news recently and scrambled to make things happen.  We didn't think we were going to be able to see my son again until next year because it looked like he'd be heading out for his underway before school got out - that was a guess, because he can't tell us anything more than X number of days out.  Well, turns out that if we jumped in the car as soon as school ended on Tuesday, we could make it to Bremerton WA to see him for a few days.  So I'm currently sitting in a hotel in Missoula MT trying to wind down after a long day of driving - tomorrow it's back down I90 until we get to Seattle.

Might head down to CA after that - haven't planned that far ahead.

Give your submariner an Atta Boy from us "Auld Salts" on the Forums and let him know there are some of us he has never met who are sending our thoughts and prayers of "Fair Winds and Following Seas" for him and the rest of his crew.

For that you want the boat mounted model we use for large river and stream surveys. It's so strong you can disable an intern with it.

So, is this just an educated guess, right?  RIGHT?

do not disable the interns, there's all kinds of paperwork.

I'm not disabling them. They are fully capable of disabling themselves.

That comment was not in purple. But don't worry, all of the modern devices automatically shut off after a few seconds. Just long enough to immobilize big fish. That way if someone were to fall out of the boat while holding the shocking wand they won't just clamp down on it and keep delivering current.

(He also used to make depth charges by weighting down mason jars with rocks, dropping in a lit M80, and sealing the top before tossing them in the water.)

Crazy Uncle George was in his 90's and still going out clamming in his 12-ft. rowboat in the middle of winter... During the summer, he'd have us kids wading along the riverbank with clamming rakes and bushel baskets floating in inner tubes tied to our waists, feeling for the clams with our toes. He kept an old metal pot and a metal grate buried in the sand near the bank of his favorite spot on the river, and when our baskets were full, he'd build a fire and dig out the pot. He'd fill it with river water, dump in the chopped vegetables he'd brought with him, pour in a can of beer, and make clam chowder right there...

We always thought he was a raging drunk who liked to get tanked at family events and argue about WWII, yelling about how we weren't there, but then, at the age of 94, we discovered he was actually bipolar and had been self-medicating with cheap beer for over half a century.

Scooter, Electric ?

I’ve heard tell they can be rented (?)

Eh, not good for mountain cabins. And inferring from what I know, what has been hinted at, and the specific concern she discussed with me a couple of weeks ago, I think it’s more that she is struggling to get him up and over to the toilet. Probably 10-15 small shuffling steps in their small house. So it’s the ten hour car ride to the vacation spot that’s likely the obstacle.

it's amazing how many crazy old coots you run into who are half off their rocker, and been treating it themselves for half of forever.

Hey! I... actually resemble that remark. I generally self-medicate with pizza.

Well, tonight's the night, starting a spelljammer game with my friday night group.  I have no idea how this is going to go but I've got the most of it figured out, I think.

Gonna start them off in realmspace since I have the old 2e realmspace book, so we can spend some time there, setting them up as the crew doing the fast packet trade.  Captain just got his ship out of impound (got caught with some cargo he shouldn't have had) and needs to hire a new crew.
