Moderator Chaoswolf Posted June 6 Author Moderator Share Posted June 6 I was quite upset the first time I heard Guns-N-Roses being played in Walmart. I remember when it was first released. It wasn't music you'd hear anywhere other than a record store, it was loud, it was rude, it was dangerous! I couldn't understand what had happened. Then, I realized that the album was 30 odd years old. Wow. Time flies when you're having fun. 6

Back when the store played elevator music, I'll never forget when I heard "Enter Sandman" on it. 7

Late 70's / 80's - Wild and Dangerous, Loud music, Denim and Leather, Long Hair, Tattoo - stay away from that guy! 90's / 00's - Somewhat out of tune, why is that guy still wearing a Motorhead shirt?, there is louder music now but it's still a bit evil - less hair - Hmmm, that guy is a bit odd but not really dangerous. Oh look a Tattoo, how average.. From 2010 to present - Classic rock, everybody knows it and loves it, it's even played in the dentist's waiting room, Wears a polo shirt and jeans, bald - That guy makes a great babysitter. Sigh...
Thoramel
Regarding the heavy metal/elevator music/getting old discussion. I was at a hardcore show last month for a band celebrating 36 years of playing together. The guitarist had their teenage daughter on stage, there were several little kids running around the venue, one of the bands gave a speech about being tolerant and accepting as an example to kids, and they warned us old people not to feel like we had to get in the pit on their behalf because they know their fanbase is old and has to get up in the morning. Still rocked hard, just a little more family friendly version of hard than it was 30 years ago. 5
