So today after I woke up from a short nap after work last night, I came downstairs, looked out the window & in the picnic table/squirrel chow feeder I have in a tree, there was a squirrel & it was asleep!!! Head & front legs were splayed over the edges & it was out!!

This is the second time, I've seen one doing that in there.....sigh.

I'm kinda surprised they took to that feeder as well as they have. All the years of the peanut bowl on the deck & now this, it makes for a active squirrelly back yard now.

Also this came up as a random song on Youtube music while at work last night:

Godsmack cover

"Nothing Else Matters"

Holy Sheep!

That means the Squirrel feels very safe in your yard. Or it's very stupid.

Same if hummingbirds land at your feeders to drink.

This depends on which side of the state you are on. We are use to the heat, you aren't. ::D:

Two points:

1. I assure you that 117 degrees in the city is a whole different experience than the high desert. I worked that night in dark clothes; under shirt, work shirt, and pants. I just kept drinking water because I knew I would dehydrate faster than I would notice.

2. There's a lot more people on this side of the Cascades than your side. There might be a reason for that...

Bonus point:

3. Do you really want to join with Idaho? Because, oh boy, have I heard some stories about that state. ::P:

1.  City will hold the days heat longer into the night, block small breezes including those that tend to spring up around sunset, and will be more humid than open chaparral/desert country.

3.  Look into the "State of Jefferson" movement.

Probably a little of both, ha ha.

I came home from work the other day, went outside to do the morning rituals & one (a little female I think) came up as soon as I had peanuts in my hand for the bowl, so I put those in & then grabbed 1 to throw over & she was already at my feet, she sniffed my work boots & then found the one that got dropped on the ground while I was grabbing from the bag.

1: Oh heat is heat, but allot of homes on your side are made for cooler weather (ie normal Portland weather at least a few years ago, before the "warming" started happening. Here, 100+ is a normal thing & people have AC units & are just use to it. Now extremely high heat, yah that is major PiTA.

2: Oh I totally agree, I'd rather be on the western side of the state myself. Growing up on this side & in western ID all my life, + settling down 25+ years ago, kinda started the nails in the coffin on me being here for the rest of my life. There is nothing on this side, which brings me to the 3rd answer....

3: I am not part of that group. As you prob know already, Eastern OR is red vs blue on your side (or at least Portland, which for all intensive purposes, come election time) & since we are closer to Boise, then Portland, they align themselves more with the thinking of Boise. It's funny thou, all these people that want "Greater Idaho" don't realize that if they did get their way, goodbye to higher then ID min wage, goodbye legal pot, goodbye no sales tax (something the city of Ontario has tried to implament numerous times in ballet voting & it's been struck down every time, one of the reason why they revoked the "no to pot sales" ban here & everything else that OR has that ID doesn't. Granted most of the pot shops here (which btw, I think we have the most pot shops per cap in the state..... - I guess goes with our high bad crime rate per cap ranking....), if you look at the plates when you go by them, are mostly Idaho & are most 1A plates, which means Boise & the other cities around it.

Granted, most of the cash that goes into the state stops at Portland & then others parts where when it get to us (if it does) does rub allot of people wrong here & I can see why they are frustrated over that, but overall eh, oh well. That's how it is & I just laugh when I hear about "Greater Idaho" news as it'll never happen.

Morning Rush hour, these days then by the afternoon, it's more or less stragglers or ones that don't want to leave. I swear they have lookouts as it's no more then 5 mins after the peanuts hit the bowl that I see one eating.

You mention the wind, anymore we get wind storms. A lounge swing my wife got from folks a few years ago (ie hand me down) finally may have fell over for the last time as the last wind storm, partially took off the awning on it. It's old & has seen better days, but yah, I'll be soooooo glad to get rid of that damn thing.

I just remembered I took a pic of the first time I saw a squirrel lounging on the picnic table.

What nice is this pic was taken from my hobby room on the 2nd floor. Love the camera on the S23 Ultra

Oh, I'm aware of how the heat works in the city. And seeing how there's a good mix of older buildings in downtown, it just traps all of the heat. I think the lowest it got that night was 85 in downtown, while the rest of the city dropped to 80.

You mean the place that tried to secede on December 6th, 1941? The one with the two crosses on their "state" flag, because they'd been "double crossed" by Salem and Sacramento? Nope, haven't heard about it before. 😅

Honestly, it's interesting to see how rural folks feel under represented in local things, but have a disproportionate level of representation at the national level of the US. 🤔

Yeah, it's a red v blue thing and I do understand why they feel the way they do, but after watching what's been going on in Salem, it's like... Maybe if there was communication and compromise, maybe it wouldn't be as bad? 🤷‍♂️

It's just weird to me that people just want to switch capitals, without thinking it through all the way. Also, it's not really possible? I do wonder how that movement started and where the money is coming from, because it... Smells a bit, if you know what I mean. Like, while the East and West parts of the state have always had different needs and cultures, but we've usually gotten along even when we didn't agree. I mean, remember Gordon Smith? He co-signed a bunch of bills in Congress with Wyden, because they had more in common with each other than they disagreed. It's wild to think that was less than 20 years ago.

And this reminds me that I need to track down who my reps are at the local and state level. You see, there's an intersection I have to cross on my way home and it's a 4-way stop, with crosswalks. Now, with our traffic laws, if a pedestrian is crossing the street, they get a buffer of the lane they're in, the lane they're moving towards, and the lane they've left. Pretty much, peds block the street until they're clear. And a lot of people don't like that. Yesterday morning, I reach the corner, a car going N/S while I'm planning on going E/W stops, and I start crossing. Because that's how it works. The vehicle comes to a stop and the ped is allowed to cross, right? I know I've looked this up. Anyway, I start crossing, check the lane I'm entering and see someone pulling up, so I start hustling, and then turn to the lane where the guy stopped. I guess he didn't want to wait, as he's been slowly pulling forward and is halfway through the intersection as I'm entering the lane he's driving in. As I reach the sidewalk, he's about five feet from me, so I flip him the bird (as if I hadn't been moving as fast as I was, he would have hit me) and he returns the favor. I was this close to calling the police, as I memorized his plate, but they don't seem to want to do much around here these days, so I just moved on.

But I know they're trying to "improve" the crossing out here after our state rep's husband (I think that's who it was) got hit by a car while crossing a street one night. And this intersection is damn dangerous. During the winter, if there's ice or frost on the road, I see cars on the grass around the intersection all the time. Plus, people don't seem to actually know the rules for a 4-way stop and there's some people who just blow through it. Doesn't help that it's on a 35 MPH road, with lights at either end...

Watched an old Western with Richard Crenna in it the other night, "The man called Noon". Written by Louis Lamour, I have now grabbed the actual novel and am going to re-read it after many years.

@haldir Why’d you post this?

Some Starchy Trivia:

”Mr. Potato Head has been used to create “themed” characters. Such as Darth Tater, Spud Trooper, R2-POTATOO, Luke Fry Walker, Optimash Prime, Spider Spud, Peter Tater, Tony Starch, and many more.”

I just figured they couldn’t think of an accessory to give her that would be a counterpart to his mustache.

He comes with glasses; She has an optional handbag, etc.
