Cranky Dog
Well that's annoying. My credit card got compromised. Today is payday, and I have the habit of paying down my credit card at the same time. So I go online, look at the amount and transactions and am struck with two "Skip the Dishes" transactions in Winnipeg on the same day I fuelled up my car and went to two groceries. A mere 2400 km away. So I called my bank, launched an investigation, and I'll be getting a new card early next week that I'll need to go pick up at my local branch. P.S. "Skip the Dishes" *is* based out of Winnipeg. But I never used this kind of service. Edited December 15, 2022 by Cranky Dog

I really hate this time of the year as far as my sleep schedule. I can go hours without sleep & when I do, I sleep for 2-3 hrs & I'm good for anther stretch run. I had to force myself to sleep yesterday when I got home from work cause I knew I needed it & I wouldn't be able to after the game last night. Pretty fun night at the FLGS, thou the owner did say some changes are happening in 2023, which I hope won't affect my game or schedule. I should have chatted with him after the game, but I needed to get one of the players home last night. Mainly we did quite a bit of role-playing vs combat, etc etc. I had them go on a bit of a wild goose chase but overall it would have put them in the same spot as the main quest. I'm running an adventure that was made to take up the missing level in the Saltmarsh book, which means return of the yuan-ti! They investigated a grotto that was used my giants as a burial chamber where they would chuck their dead into a underground river. As the party was getting ready to investigate the river more I had 4 hill giants arrive. The simple task of placing 4 of those onto the map was enough that the party didn't want to stick around, thou one player wanted to chat it up with them, but he knew if he didn't get into the boat, he'd be stuck there. We started to run some river "combat" which mostly is them rolling a d6 on their turn & then comparing the results to a hazard chart, eventually the boat is going to arrive at a Y where both flows end in waterfalls. One flow is just more dangerous then the other. In the end they will end up in the Underdark & into a large mushroom forest with a large lake (hence the huge shark minis I need to find). We'll put this adventure on ice for a couple weeks & I'll bring out the Taken by Krampus! adventure for the remaining Weds of the year. 9 minutes ago, Cranky Dog said: Well that's annoying. I think the last time I got hit was small minor transaction with my bank card to amazon. The amounts were small enough I didn't catch them until I saw a big one like $100+. It took a bit of digging, but overall I did get this fix & my bank refund everything. The total amount was around $400 IIRC + it was during 2020 so yah the drive-thru contact was annoying but was the only way we could do it.

I was having decent dreams which I don’t remember well. Would make a great lazy day. Doesn’t help that the last song in the radio before walking into the office was “Happy With You” by Paul McCartney. But I am at work. I have some tasks that are interesting. So there’s that. Got to see geminid meteors last night when the dogs wanted out. Can’t be a bad day.

Card skimmers have gotten really good, they can attach a panel within seconds that is identical to the real one and works on top of the installed card reader, so you never notice what's happening. 3 hours ago, haldir said: We'll put this adventure on ice for a couple weeks & I'll bring out the Taken by Krampus! adventure for the remaining Weds of the year. Thanks again for that tip. Our current GM had to bow out of tomorrow night's game, so guess what I'll be setting up tonight. 4 hours ago, Chaoswolf said: I reeeaaaallllly didn't want to get up this morning. Tell me about it. Corsair
Well, I dunno about these "part time" jobs. Since I retired I have had several, didn't need the money, but enjoy getting out of the house and having some extra cash in the "hobby fund". But EVERY job I have gotten has wound up with working more hours than expected [or really wanted]. Again, supposed to be off today, but someone didn't show up so they called me. And then as soon as I get off, heading to our Church's Christmas Dinner. It is always fun with lots of games and laughter.
WhiteWulfe
Therein lies the thing I never understood about supposed part time jobs (and why I rarely went for such jobs). They won't hire you full time, but without fail on a day you have off you'd always wind up getting a phone call asking if you could come in to cover a shift... Or yeah, if you're only available for x amount, they always try and book you for another 4-8... Or make you a closer when you're 14 and laws don't allow that, and neither does what you agreed to for availability when hired...

Because they can't afford or don't want to pay the benefits package that comes with a full-time hire. Usually they need the full-time workers, but it's cheaper to pay you for an extra day's work than it is to add you to the company medical plan. Similarly, they often need more workers but aren't budgeted for more hires, and a lot of low-skilled part-timers are often eager for the extra pay so it's easy to get someone to cover the shift of someone who can't/won't work. 5
Mad Jack
Was reading one of those articles where they show pictures of old print ads from past decades and bag on them about how "cringey" they are... All of them were no-brainers until they got to this one about ten or twelve ads in. The comment for this one... Spoiler ...Was "Real or not, this fake Nichols machine gun is no Nerf territory. Get hit with 100 of these pellets coming at you all at once, and you’ll be laid up for days." Many of us here are old enough to understand why this is an eye-roller. They were doing sooo well with their snarky moral superiority until then, lol... Edited December 15, 2022 by Mad Jack 4

The snark-meisters need to be soundly criticized for their absolute ignorance of things that happened before they were born, and their unwillingness to correct their ignorance. And it isn't just toy guns but cuts across most areas of recent history. GEM

Yeah, unfortunately in the US most don't, or they have such convoluted requirements for part timers that many don't get benefits. That's part of the reason that health care and minimum wage increases have been in the news so often in recent years. A lot of the large retailers and similar companies make profits by paying workers as little as they can get away with legally. 1 minute ago, Green Eyed Monsty said: Not just an eye roller. Not just things that happened, but how society was significantly different 20, 30 and 50 years ago. We have changed, in some ways for the better, and some for the worse.
