CaptainPete
16 hours ago, kristof65 said: I disagree about RPGs being incomplete, especially in the early days. You don't need rules to cover every situation. You need enough to meet the original intent of the game. I know a lot of people like the extra rules, and they're good for being able to release additional material and thus make a profit, but the fact is that no RPG is ever going to be a realistic simulation of life, let alone life with magic or sci-fi tech. Any RPG that tries is going to end up bloated, overly complicated, delivered late and rarely played (here's looking at you Traveller 5 & Rolemaster). TBH, you don't even really need a set of rules to run a fun RPG campaign, though it can help for combat. My first foray into GMing as a teen, before I could afford to buy into D&D was a Middle Earth campaign I ran using the Microgames pocket games Melee & Wizard (well before The Fantasy Trip came out). Ran that game every day during 8th grade for a few of my friends, and we all had a blast. I don't like any RPG for everything. I feel that the RPG rule set used should really help reinforce the feeling of the setting the game master is trying to convey. I won't use D&D for sci-fi, I won't use Traveller for Star Wars or Star Trek, I won't use D&D for my Iskitaan setting, and D&D is all I'll use for my Yrazul setting. SW was great for the setting we had developed for our kids, and it actually lost some of it's flavor after we switched to 5e. This particular artist prides themselves on having realistic anatomy in their pictures, even if it's for fantastic creatures, so I thought they'd appreciate the tip. I don't know, I've looked over several old RPGs or 1st editions of games and there's always something missing. Or, something I forgot to mention, they're overly complicated in one area (Morrow Project anyone?). I just can't quite find the words to explain exactly what I'm talking about, it's been... A day. But, yeah, we agree about the rules matching the theme of the game. SW is great for stuff where the details can be fuzzy or you just need something simple. As for the artist, that was context I was lacking. But it could be they just care about bodies more than anything else. In other news, Monday night, my boss said he'd had a pain in the lower right side of his abdomen that just find of happened after he got to work. I told him that it sounded like appendicitis, seeing as I had to have mine removed in 2018. He said he had just slept wrong. I softly nudged his side, where my pain had been, and he groaned loudly. I tell him he needs to go to a hospital. HE REFUSED. He has a second job and was going to do that. I kept telling him what was going to happen if he didn't get it treated, told him horror stories, everything I could think of. He still refused. He said he had to work his other job. It was really weird how much he refused. Last night, he comes in and I tell him he looks pale. The other boss feels his forehead and he tells him (and me) that he's clammy. Since he's a former paramedic, I would hope that it would have some weight. It gets to be around 2am and the boss calls to say that he's into much pain to work and is going to go home. I tell him he needs to go to a hospital. He finally agrees. After some sorting things out that need to be sorted out, he leaves just before 2:30am. And then... Radio silence. Until just now. I was literally typing this up when he texted back. White count is low but the ER didn't see anything on the ultrasound, and he has an appointment later today for imaging. I seriously wanted to punch him in the side for refusing to go to a hospital. The dumbest thing I've ever seen. Refusing to go to a hospital in a situation like that is a good way to end up dying a very painful death... 1

Refusing to go to a hospital in a situation like that is a good way to end up dying a very painful death... Sounds like my dad's side of the family. They don't like hospitals and avoid making a fuss about any medical issue no matter how bad it is. Case and point, my dad hiding pain from gall bladder stones until he nearly keeled over before leaving on a business flight. And years later, somehow trying to hide from my mother that he had shingles. What eventually got him was colon cancer. 😭 If he didn't try to hide his symptoms for so long, we might have caught it time. Luckily, I'm far more proactive about my health and symptoms and not afraid of doctors, hospitals or needles. Though that doesn't mean I'm eagerly awaiting my colonoscopy next year.
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted July 26 Author Moderator Share Posted July 26 I've never understood that thought process. If something hurts, I'm either gonna fix it myself* or got to someone who can. * I know a LOT about basic first aid some more advanced things, too. My dad was an EMT, my mom worked in the lab, one grandmother was a nurse, and the other grandfather was a doctor, so I got exposed to a lot of medical stuff as a kid. I've given myself stitches on two separate occasions, and dressed my sons head wound professionally enough that the ER initially told me that there was nothing they could do because 'he's obviously already been seen by someone' . I know I'm not a doctor, but I do know enough that I can ask the right kinds of questions to make medical folks wonder exactly what I do know, and therefore they are more inclined to give me straight answers.

haldir
4 hours ago, Green Eyed Monsty said: Barbie 2 The Wrath of Ken GEM Love what the heart graphic says. I found out how great the spell "Antimagic Field" is tonight. Weds FLGS game party found a fungal beholder. Pretty much a beholder without the 10 eye beams. It used a d4 random spit attack & the tongue lick attack. The minimum damage of each "spit that dealt damage" was 5d10 & up to 10d10. There was also a rot grub spit. The player that I hit with that one, got lucky & he only got 1 out of d4 roll. Also lucky for him was there was player who had encountered it in the first Saltmarsh adventure & went before him in combat, so he was able to shout out how to get rid of it (fire, lots of fire, ha ha). They got the offer for the spider adventure from the myconids as we were ending for the night, so it's the works. It's probably was a good thing as I need to repair the glue job on Arkoth, oddly the superglue & accelerator didn't hold a leg on (odd). Well off to try & get some paint on that last scenery piece & to prep the 2 other RCON minis. I'm gonna try to finish all 3 tomorrow! I need to find a thin sheet of metal tomorrow. I don't need much, just enough for a small magnet to be attracted too. Hopefully the mom & pop hobby shop has something in stock.
