At that point, I wouldn't care which one it was, maybe a day or two I'd be able to think which one best suits my family & my needs

Not the way it works.

You are forced to choose when you choose your numbers.  It is on the play slip.

Just checked my receipt for my BAM tax, and doesn’t say a thing on it about payment choices. The back fine print does say that I would get paid via either an annuity or lump sum. But nothing on the front.

Yah, looking at my ticket & knowing this already, you choose after you win your prize.

& yes my offer I did years ago still stands, friends of mine would get a Reaper mini of their choice if I ever win one of the big ones!

As I understand it, the biggest reason to make a choice is tax implications, so the annual option would probably give you more money in the long term.

In Australia the lottery is tax exempt, so it doesn't really need an annual option.

Correct, I do believe out the current offering of 1.whatever billion, you'd get like 300 to 400 million after state & fed taxes. Still allot of cash of course.

That's not a thing in any state I've ever purchased a Powerball or Megamillions ticket in.

Don’t play in Texas then. (?)

“GRAND PRIZE OPTION

Select "30 ANNUAL PAYMENTS" or "CASH VALUE OPTION".

Mark "30 ANNUAL PAYMENTS" if you want to receive your prize in 30 annual payments.

Mark "CASH VALUE OPTION" for a single payment of the present cash value of the jackpot prize.

You may not change the payment option at a later date.”

The last red block ^ ^ ^ at the bottom.

The machine will spit the play slip out if a choice is not made.

Official wurds:

You may not change the payment option at a later date. When using a playslip, if you do not select a payment option, your playslip will be rejected.”

If other states differ, I wonder if it has to do with state income taxes.

It may have something to do with the actual language authorizing a Lottery in the individual state.

There is a big debate going on right now in Nevada on whether or not to authorize a State Lottery.

In order for it to happen an Amendment of the State Constitution would have to occur.

Of course, at every major highway into California there is a business selling Lotto Tickets as close to the Cal/Nev line as they are capable of locating a suitable building on the California side of the line.

Since Nevada has No State Income Tax the only tax ramifications for Nevada Residents would be on their Federal Return.

We went to a concert in the park tonight.

Grump made us all peanut butter sandwiches, two peanut butter and strawberry preserve sandwiches each for BD and me, two peanut butter and hot pepper jelly sandwiches for him.

Brigid and me chowed down, then Grump went to grab his sammiches.

Grump: Where's my peanut butter and hot pepper jelly sandwiches?

BD: Munch, munch, munch!  Munch, munch, munch!

She inherited his vulcanized tastebuds!

I pulled a Grump! I forgot to log back in after he borrowed my Fire.

No games this weekend, three of our players are at Gen Con. ::D:

Lucky dogs. They didn't coordinate, it just happened. Jon, Julie, and the Other Dennis.

Jon and Julie decided to GenCon this year instead of Pennsic.

Legislatures just being obtuse ?.?

I managed to find Colorado’s procedure. (Dreadful website. The “How To Play” section exhibited a complete, total, abject failure to display an entire play slip. Truncated and cropped was what they went for.)

But I found the fine print. A winner can choose after matching the numbers drawn. The Choice between 30 annual or cash value can be made when the ticket is validated. But there is a 60 day time limit. After 60 days, it defaults to annual payments—no choice.  I didn’t find how long a winner has until the ticket is completely void. 180 days??

I am really surprised states get to customize little details when they sign on to these multi-state games.
