GEM As Mr Announcer says: "Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of AS THE CARWASH CHURNS, your exciting soap opera of the trials and tribulations of one poor but honest technician." As you probably know, a lot of cable and phone companies allow service in a business name to be transferred to a new owner with no interruption in service/change of equipment. This makes sense, because if you're buying an existing business, you generally want to keep the same phone number/equipment. Unfortunately, a lot of people think this applies to credit card processing as well - that the new owner will simply be able to call up the processor and have their accounts transferred over to their name. That's what he meant, not that he was just going to turn the accounts over to a new owner. As for fall and revenue, in most parts of the country, Oct thru Apr are better for the car wash industry. The big exception to that is So Cal. So in theory, his revenue should be looking better for a few months, until next summer. 5

kristof65
broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli, broccoli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Service Manager has now decided to take off all day on Fridays, instead of just Friday afternoons, because "Kristof is now out of the office two days a week for those installs, and I need a break." Doesn't care that the other service tech is on vacation for the next two weeks. So I'm the only tech today. Normally in a case like this, one of the three engineers helps cover - tech does triage, and refers things up to an engineer. Except, one of the engineers is on vacation, and we just got news that the MIL and Grandmother of the other two engineers passed away last night, and so neither of them will be available for the next few days. So I'm it. All of it. For two entire countries. Well, four, if you count Iceland and Australia, but due to time zone differences, we've usually seen their calls by this time of the day. BROCCOLI I'm getting a very heavy "blood from a stone" vibe here. Or running on razor thin margins... In what I hope is the final update on jerkface, he has a meeting this morning. and he's already been removed from the system. So, I have no idea why they're having a meeting. Maybe to just go over how badly he screwed up? Either way, I don't care. At least he's not my problem anymore. However, that means that I will have a new host of problems as we hire more people. Such is life.
Thoramel
Just finished up a couple of weeks worth of travel for work last night. I was in Baltimore for a conference two weeks ago and then when that was done I had just enough time to get home, do my laundry, pack again and then fly out to Chicago for a regional meeting of folks who do my job in other states and tribes. I was planning on taking the day off to recover from travel exhaustion but my interns reached out yesterday to ask if I'd help them with a stream assessment today. Against my better judgement I agreed to come in for half a day to help them out. I'm glad I did though, as soon as we got in the stream this morning we got buzzed by a Bald Eagle and the day just got better form there. It has been an absolutely beautiful day to wade around in streams. Here, let me show you: Anyways, that's done now so I've logged off work for the rest of the day and am going to enjoy being home with no travel plans. Cheers all! 8

Glitterwolf
End of our vacation. My girl starts working again this weekend, me, Monday. Not looking forward to that, this feeling is stronger this time than ever. Oh well...just a few more years to go before retirement.
kristof65
If you know about a problem for a week or more, and you wait until the Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend to call someone about it, you are a Broccoli Hole. I should have just gone to ReaperCon, even though I couldn't afford to this year. 5
kristof65
I'm trying very hard right now not to tell a relatively new site owner to just take his car wash keys to the bank who holds his mortgage and tell them he's too stupid to own a car wash. 4 6

Last Knight
One of the nicest things about my new (for the past year and a half) line of work is the opportunity to meet peoples' pets. Dogs, usually, cats want nothing to do with strangers in their house moving their stuff around. This is Jackson. He snores. 8 1
Colonel Kane
I am not even going to try to catch up.. it has been too long. Long story short, I have had some major life changes since May. I now live near a communication black hole, so my connectivity is low at best. I am still not sure when I will be back, but I just wanted to say I hope everyone is doing as best as they can. 12 1
Green Eyed Monsty
Wife and I went to the big, as in six days worth of 'Q in one place, BBQ Competition in Sparks this afternoon. Weather forecast was for intermittent showers today with worse weather over the weekend so I decided today was the day if we were going to go. Had intermittent spritzes on the way up to Sparks, no rainfall while we were at the event, and then it started showering then full on rain on the way home. We had very good 'Q, courtesy of the Carson City Barbecue Company, who don't have a restaurant but do catered and special events as their main business. They had about half a pickup bed load of trophies on display from the awards they have won over the years. Could have had Fried Catfish or Alligator On A Stick but was too full of pulled beef brisket by the time we went past that stand. Forecast for over the weekend is for showers and possible Thunderstorms all weekend with a "flurry" advisory for the Mt. Rose Highway. Yes, that's "flurry" as in Snow Flurry. Mt. Rose Highway starts from the south side of Reno and goes to a local ski resort that is about an hours drive time or less from most of Reno to the resort, it's that close to town. Burning Man is happening roughly 100 miles to the north of Reno. These storms are sweeping into the area from Northwest to Southeast, making it likely the "Burners" are going to be sharing in the rain, so "Burning Man" becomes either "Burning Mud" or "Mudding Man". At least it will help keep the dust down. Hold on to this thought: He's probably going to spend a small truckload of money on learning how to operate a Car Was successfully, OR, demonstrating, at his own expense, he is, in fact, not smart enough to own a Car Wash. by the time the bank gets lumbered with the property it will either be a candidate for the bulldozer to be brought in to perform a scrape of the building lot, OR, there will have been enough new parts put in for the premises to be half-way to being a decent Car Wash if it has proper care and feeding from competent management. In the meantime, lay in a good supply of Pepto-Bismo. GEM
