They've been removed from the schedule, demoted, and will be "offered" the chance to end their employment early. There's a phrase I could use, but not on here (you know the one). This week has drained me. Other boss is back from the east coast and is obsessed with finding these things called "pizza logs" in my neck of the woods. I called them a messed up egg rolls or a Hot Pocket with a delusion of grandeur and now he's ordered 100 of them from the manufacturer, to prove me wrong. Our one dog Lola is almost 10 and is losing hair on her tail, is still The Prettiest Girl, and is the most food-motivated organism I have ever seen. Our other dog Bella is maybe 8 and is a Yorkiefloof mix, currently shaved to look like a rat due to hair mats. The fish and snails....are. Timothy the All-Devouring lost half a forearm in a possibly cricket-related altercation but is still snatching flies out of the air like the highly specialized ambush predator he is. These are the 9 authorized nonhumans. We also just got ourselves a long-overdue carpet shampooer. That's right, we're using sham poo to clean up the real poo. Our agile agility isn’t. Firehose of needs seems desperate and without any authority behind it. And tomorrow is a work Friday. Sleep is desperately needed to escape the cube hell. Then the paycheck hits the account, Monday comes, and we repeat the week. May really push hard to become the program 3D printing guru. I think the instructor has basically given up on any semblance of trying to make effective implementations of things and is now just trying to meet arbitrary goals. Spent about an hour watching YouTube videos explaining agile and how to work it into hardware. And honestly? The instructor was right. It did come the hardware world. I know because I joined the workforce at the end of the physical era and the beginning of the virtual one. Old way of doing things was to build/test/break/improve/repeat. I had reams of test data in the mid 90s that I could refer to. We’d built so many prototypes that there was always a nugget of knowledge we could use elsewhere. SpaceX kept coming up as a company that was implementing Agile for their rockets. Commentators talking about how innovative they are by doing so many tests has always confused me. That’s an old, old method of development. But now that I have a bit more knowledge on the subject of “agile”, I understand the fascination now. If I had to summarize what agile looks like for hardware, it’d be prototypes that absolutely do not meet the final requirements. But they inch towards them. And with access to a 3D printer a prototype is just hours away, albeit in plastic. It’s a bit frustrating to watch those videos sling labels around trying to garner some consulting money.
